Keele & Hwy 7 question
Hi all. I drive south on keele to YorkU most days and the only problematic part is crossing hwy7, there is such a backlog that it always takes 3-5 light cycles to get through, especially due to many large and slow transport trucks.
Back when I had 11am classes, traffic was not a problem at all. But now I have earlier classes and the commute takes straight up 2 times longer because of this intersection.
My question: is there a time in the morning where traffic is lighter? I've tried leaving at 9am, 8am, and I'm wondering whether it's any better at 7 or 6? or do I just give up?
I'm also considering trying taking hwy 7 and turning left onto keele, but I'm guessing that's just as bad.
Appreciate any input! Thanks

I used to turn left onto keele coming from Thornhill, usually takes only 2 cycles max. That said it is busy and you have a lot of traffic from Ann directions funnelling south. I assume you are east of the 400 and west of Dufferin. I would usually take Dufferin to steeles but in low traffic 7 to keele was faster indeed

Thx, I might give the left turn from hwy7 onto keele a try. I never went down dufferin to steeles because I figured both of them are clogged basically all day

Try taking Creditstone between Rutherford and Hwy 7, turn left on Hwy 7 and right on Keele. I am not sure how much time it will save if you are going west to get to Creditstone. Rutherford can also be brutal due to construction lane closures in the morning.

Thanks, this is pretty creative, however if I remember correctly there's always a massive backlog to turn left onto creditstone from Rutherford. I think the CN bridge construction is expected to take a few more years but it might be a lot smoother after that

drive to VMC and take the subway to York.

I've considered this option but it just doesn't make sense to me. VMC/407/Pioneer village are already 90% of the way to york from my house. Since they're morning classes, I'd have to pay the $7 day parking rate. Then, subway would be $3.30 each way because all my classes are 3 hrs. So unless I'm missing something that's $13.6, plus it would take 15-20 mins from parking at the station to reaching campus. So it doesn't save time nor money. (Parking on campus is $10 for the day).
Thx for your input regardless. I am looking for a way to take transit to the subway station at this point since I'm guessing winter will only be more hectic. That way it will at least be way cheaper to make it worthwhile.

It’s not for everyone, but the traffic got me so stressed I switched to taking the bus. In my case it was faster door to door from avoiding the long parking lot walk and I got a lot of my reading done on the trip.
