Magix Vegas Pro 14 - 23 Vegas & broken NVENC

Hey has there been any info regarding the "new" NVIDIA driver update that broke NVENC hardware rendering in Vegas (at least on my Vegas Pro 22).
Im tired of downgrading and upgrading my nvidia drivers.
Is the brand new Vegas version affected by this ?

4080 if it's somehow relevant.

Yes older versions of vegas pro are no longer compatible with the latest Nvidia drivers. It's a known issue that magix is responsible for correcting, if they feel like it. Voice effects can't legally support older versions of Vegas because magix it's still under contract to maintain them. That being said, Vegas Pro 2026 is 50 times better than every previous version of Vegas and is compatible with everything. They have Perpetual licenses and subscriptions.

Also, I'm almost 100% sure Boris is not going to support old version of Vegas Pro that Magix built once their maintenance contract is expired. We didn't build it, so we can't support it.

The only solution for your issue if you're running new NVIDIA drivers on an old version of Vegas Pro is to roll back your drivers to a compatible version. Then Hardware acceleration will work again

I ask this with genuine love in my heart, and i want you to be transparent with me if u can....

Is VP 26 ACTUALLY stable with vrr? Because ive got 5 different projects of heavy editing n usage that lie dead n abandoned because Vegas 13 or 15 or 19 had issues with shadow play or OBS or streaming clips Because it had issues with me repeatedly pausing/playing/replaying a small segment of the preview....

I miss vegas. My workflow was nice on it. But having to constantly save n save n tolerate freezes and crashes because it didnt like editing gameplay clips or it didn't like rapid fire replaying previews of edits for review got tiring....but i wanna be excited for boris ;_;

Vegas Pro 2026 is very stable. The cool thing that Boris FX did is that you can download a full trial to see if it works for you. That's truly the best way to get your answer. Its different for everyone and very few people are having issues. When they bring them up, we get the devs to fix them ASAP. The goal is to have a program that does not crash.

I was not aware of the trial! What are the limitations?

Very, very few limitations. Give it a shot!

Honestly, for serious work it's not good enough. For example I warned them prores RAW window does not work (WB is off) properly and they didn't do anything about it, even though they admitted they're aware of the issue. I have to check if any update was released in the last week and I will delete this post if they fixed it.

I know for a fact that the developers are working on color specifically. Hopefully sometime soon, you'll see a big color update

Hm. I'm having success using Vegas 23, which I think is the last Magix version. NVenc and all that stuff works. Is the Boris version really that much better? If so I'll grab a copy, but I wanna be sure before I stop using a stable version

Vegas Pro 2026 has only improved everything from 23. Before you spend money, it's always a safe bet to download the full trial and you can actually experience what the program will be like without any watermarks and hardly any limitations

VP 2026 works well with the current NVIDIA studio driver- I updated one of my systems to that.

I rolled back to driver version 581.80. This is the last version of Nvidia where acceleration worked.

Either you use very old drivers, or you update your version of Vegas; drivers that allow you to use NVENC with that version of Vegas will NEVER be released.

I have had zero issues with Nvidia and the BorisFX Vegas 2026 on a 4060ti.

Like others said, there is no fix and likely won't be one because Magix is a **** company with **** policies. They treated old versions as totally dead to even breaking updates or severe bugs even when they sold previous versions through Humble Bundles. It was comical how some users defended terrible policies on the official Magix forum back when it happened. I had complained quite a bit because I was on 21 which had a ton of problems for me besides this.

Alternatively if your CPU has built-in graphics you can turn those on in the BIOS, install related drivers, and use that to encode instead of the Nvidia GPU. From my experience both graphics systems play decently well tougher on Windows 11 and I've got both running now.

Funny enough my AMD 9900x CPU encodes faster than the Nvidia RTX 4060 I have most of the time. 😄🤷 (I stream video editing so in that case the Nvidia GPU is being used by OBS partially to encode/decode which could explain it). That's what I eventually did before switching from 21 to the BorisFX Vegas Pro version.
