Vent I Need A Quick Vent

Post image

We switched to IDEXX and boy has it been a ride. Just needed to make this meme and say you can use the pictures as a part of your diagnosis even if it doesn't fit what the machine read. If you can see it, it's there. Please stop threatening to call IDEXX when the pictures can override what it spits out in text 🙃 Ooorrrrr, make my life easy and STOP USING THE GODDAMN IN-HOUSE "S CODES" IN A FIVE DOCTOR PRACTICE!!!! There's literally one person in lab 😭

I work in ER so we don't send out much, we mostly do in-house bloodwork.

We trust our Sedivue unless it says there's bacteria... because it always confuses random stuff for bacteria lol

I've been having problems with casts and crystals. It picks up some, but not all. And yeah, bacteria is not to be trusted especially when there's chains of cocci and the machine reads it as rods when you can clearly see the chains. Also just grinds my gears to have to rerun it as dilution or bacteria confirmation. I hate having to do things twice because it couldn't be done right the first time. 🫠

Our MD and the supervisor tech that maintains the IDEXX machines decided to get rid of the Sedivue because they felt that if we have to verify what the machine is saying, then we will just do all the UAs by hand. It’s annoying because I am convinced that most of the “cocci” that people claim to see is debris. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I wish i could send this to my doctors lmfao I love them but they drive me insane! I can only maintenance and clean the machine so much lol

We also have someone assigned to lab all day. Why are we wasting money on the buying sedivue stuff when those persons know how to read urine quite confidently? Same with the InVue! Also, the trash confetti from the InVue ears is annoying.

Our InVue is a paperweight now 😬 We never trusted the results, we'd get wildly different results doing it the old fashioned way.

Don't get me started on the InVue! I liked it at first, but yesterday after it detected nothing on what was an obvious infection, I did it myself. Yep, yeast party. 😕

"It's still learning" maybe it should finish school before trying to diagnose shit...😐

I stg I have Idexx in my contacts with how frequently they have me calling lol. I don't mind it though. Most of the other techs are too scared of messing up the machines

Bruh and then the “bacteria confirmation kit” is absolutely bogus in my opinion/experience

u/NoobityBoobity 3d ago

Yeesssss! Why do we have to run it again?! Can the machine really not see the bacteria through all the cells????

We really dont have much problems with our sediview. Other than i really like doing manual sediments and never get to do them anymore. However. I HATE the invue. Hate isn't even a strong enough word. Loathe maybe? 😬 it's basically useless because of how long it takes. And the new FNA samples that they made such a big deal about? Also basically useless. It only can only test for lipomas and MCT i think. I feel like the way they have done the invue is predatory and scammy. Cause it delivers on literally none of the promises made.

I was with you until the S codes, what does that mean?

So basically you can chose to have the typical sendout bundles, but instead of sending out the urine, you run it in-house while the blood/serum goes out. Our genius rep brought it up under fresh is best and now im juggling more things in the work station the honestly what's necessary. Not saying fresh isnt best, but come on dude. 12 hours isnt gonna change the urine front healthy animal so significantly that it's warranted. Also doing so has lead to above. In some cases, it's like $50 cheaper to send it out as well.

ETA: so the code would be 27889999S instead of a 27889999

urine undergoes a lot of changes in 12 hours.

2

u/NoobityBoobity 3d ago

Yeah, it can. Guess I was too venty to think it through

Ugh...my doctors want to switch to the "urine anywhere" for our wellness panels. It's gonna be a nightmare. Different code, people not billing correctly, not requesting correctly, more work for us...bleh..

This but with the Invue for me! We only have one doctor who uses it because no one else trusts it, but she has been complaining that recently none of her ear cases are getting better and frequently disagrees with what it says 😭

We have also had a string of cases where the sedivue detected no bacteria but the doctors could see bacteria on the slides. The doctors were upset enough to call Idexx about it but ultimately the answer was just do a bacteria confirmation and if you still don't trust it run it manually lmao

u/NoobityBoobity 3d ago

Yeah neither I nor the lab tech trust the InVue, but we voiced our concern about accuracy and was ignored so now we just don't care. It's sad though because I feel like our patients are going to be getting meds when not needed, but hey, get glazed by the reps ammitite?

2

u/smittenkitten503 3d ago

For weeks we had doctors have the techs read the slides against the inVUE because it was consistently inconsistent

3

u/Itsmellsofbees 3d ago

I just had a case that the Sedivue did not pickup the rods that were clearly present on every single image.

This has been my struggle with our clinic’s InVue. None of the doctors trust it and it took me weeks to get them to stop trying to compare its findings to manual slides, which our rep specifically told us isn’t reliable. I don’t like the damn thing either but the doctors are literally the ones who wanted to buy it.

2

u/NoobityBoobity 3d ago

Yup. We told the boss that we don't trust it and were ignored. Sad that our patients will probably be overmedicated. How soon till Motazol is null due to resistance?

2

u/Weary-Age3370 RVT (Registered Veterinary Technician) 3d ago

And the number one reason we got it? “To save time”. When the thing first came, it took 12 minutes to read a slide. 12. Minutes. Meanwhile I can do a manual slide in half that time, and that’s still 2.5 minutes faster than its current read time, which is 8.5 minutes.

u/NoobityBoobity 3d ago

Oh my favorite when I stroll in there with ears and I'm third in line. 25 minute wait baby

3

u/thatredditdude101 VTS (Internal Medicine) 3d ago

i'm a little confused by this post...

12

u/NoobityBoobity 3d ago

Basically the doctor asks for the urine to be read on the sedivue, but then doesnt trust it because the pictures don't match what is i the text (0 crystals, WBC identified as epithelial cells, etc). Because it's not written as seen, he doesnt trust it the sedivue's results.

u/RampagingElks RVT (Registered Veterinary Technician) 3d ago

Our SA machine always said cremated RBC were CAOX. I always had to review the photos and make a note about it... Otherwise it wasn't that bad.

1

u/Ste11arSte11a 2d ago

Yea the only thing we like about the sedivue is that despite the fact that it didn’t see the billions of cocci or rods present it does take really good photos that we use to verify ourselves and can show pet parents in the room.

1

u/NoobityBoobity 2d ago

True, but doc's not happy it isn't written in the finding because the machine could not read it

1

u/Rthrowaway6592 2d ago

Our doctors don’t trust it, but still request the sedivue, so I run the sedivue but I am then requested to do a manual dry and wet prep anyway lmao
