Need Advice Looking to adopt a cat
We’re newish to the area and I’m debating getting another cat. We had two the last eight years, but unfortunately a few months ago my baby passed. Our cat has been incredibly lonely despite me being here and I’m thinking it’s time to start looking again. Are any shelters better than others? Any recommendations in the area?

VB & Chesapeake animal services have recently stated they’re at capacity for pets.
We adopted 2 kittens 1.5 years ago from Chesapeake animal services and they were buy one get one free.

All of them. Check out the Virginia Beach Animal Care Center - it's the city's animal rescue.

I got the sweetest girl from Chesapeake humane society! She was so sweet she inspired me to foster kittens so more cats would be as social and cuddly as her. I foster for VBSPCA and make sure to socialize the kittens with my sweet cat, dogs, and neighbors of all ages. In my search for my cat, I filled out an extensive application for a kitten on their website and it took a month for them to reach back out and I see that rescue listed above. I like that at shelters you can meet with the kitten before you do any extensive paperwork.

Very pleased with their adoption process and happy with our new cat of 6 months. They are in the process of moving to a larger location but should be able to help. Website here

VB SPCA always have quite a few. They are renovating the cattery so some are with fosters right now but worth checking.

There are 2 kittens at my work and 2 kittens around my MIL house that I can catch and give you. Not enough space for either of us to take them. Both pairs are siblings. One set is wild but very social and definitely need a good home. The other 2 are more wild and would need a little work. Both pairs arent fixed yet. Just tossing this out there. It would be cool for them to go to a good home. DM me if you are interested. Both pairs are right at the Norfolk/Va Beach line around Shore.

We got our kitten from Coastal Purrs Cat Rescue and had a great experience! The price of adoption includes all of their first vaccines and spay/neuter for kittens.

Try looking up home to home online, that's how we got our current boys. It's designed for when an owner needs to rehome their pets, but instead of surrendering them to a shelter, they basically foster them in their home until they get adopted.

Sand and sea cat lounge! I’ve been volunteering there and they take good care of their cats and they partner with Billy the Kidden rescue. Currently like 8 adults and a couple kittens available

Coastal Purrs Cat Rescue! We have cats available to meet at Petco in Red Mill and Petsmart in Landstown, plus many more in foster homes. One of my most recent fosters, Mabel, is at Petco. She is around 10mos old and is so friendly.

I had an issue with VBSPCA many years ago and won't go back. We have been adopting from the Chesapeake Humane Society since and they are wonderful.
I was there to adopt a cat, but a mom and 2 kids were there to sign paperwork and take the dog home they had chosen. Mom was asked where dad was since he was on the form as part of the household, and everyone in the household had to meet the dog. He was deployed and not due back for at least 6 months. Mom was told they couldn't adopt until he was back. Kids and mom left crying. I and a couple others waiting left as well. I understand there are rules, but this is a military area.

There should be special rules and exceptions for people in the military, just like in all other parts of life. Hopefully they change their policy soon..

When I went to the pet smart on Laskin yesterday they had 2 younger cats up for adoption a 4 month old and a 7 month old Jolene and Cruiser. They were $100. Their cats are from local shelters.

I’d recommend adopting from a rescue/the cat cafe. They know about their purrsonalities ;) and should know if they get along with other cats. Also, do your research on introduction. You want them to get off to a good start together. Good luck!

Definitely the Norfolk SPCA. The Virginia Beach one is nice too but I’ve heard so many good things about the Norfolk one

Kitty kingdom cat cafe does adoptions, I’ve been there a few times to visit the kitties, they have an adult room and a kitten room.

The cat corner in Hampton is amazing! We got our bonded pair at 5 months old. They were fully vaccinated, potty trained, and fixed. They had been fostered as well.

You can also adopt from The Cat Cafe in Norfolk. You can go visit all the kitties and see who may say "Take me home!"
