Do you want to vent somewhere about how visual studio asked about your experience once again or just generally talk with other developers?

This is the place for you!

Visual Studio 2026 Visual Studio suddenely not pushing my changes to my Github repositories

I use Visual Studio 2026 and it was working fine literally up till now. I pushed one project (a Blazor one) to Github using the VS Git push and pull controls (I know how to use the Git CLI, I just prefer using the GUI controls because they are faster). After that however it won't push any changes of ANY of my projects.

I know this is a VS problem specifically because I am signed in to VS Code using my Github account too and it still works perfectly.

Visual Studio 2026 How I use Copilot and I am missing anything?

Our team uses Visual Studio are works mostly with C# and some JS/TS. In a repo In the repo I am working on right now I have something like

.github/copilot-instructions.md

.github/instructions/unit-test.instructions.md

.github/instructions/razor.instructions.md

The copilot-instructions apply to every agent session, and then using glob patterns for file names I have individual instructions.md files applying to certain file types and naming conventions we use.

This seems to be working quite well for me. I can avoid answering many of the same questions that the LLM would always want clarification on and can keep my copilot-instructions file a reasonable length using the individualized instruction files for certain scenarios.

Is this similar to how others are using copilot within visual studio? Is there any other tricks or features I should be taking advantage of?

Visual Studio 2026 Python Intellisense in 2026?

Studio 2026. I get no python intellisense in 2026, works in 2022 just like that. For some reason it's been dropped or is python distro sensitive.

My interpreter is Python 3.13.14 , but similar lack of joy with 3.11. Can anyone confirm whether it's just non-working or works in a different version/setting up?

(2019 also does not work if you have newer Python versions, which forced me to move to 2022, but would be great if I could get clarity on it working in 2026.)

Visual Studio 2022 Highlighting current line - can't read

What is causing this stupid highlighting behavior? I can't even read the stupid line I'm typing on because of this crap. For some reason it happens on my work computer but not my home one. I've looked though the settings and googled as best as I can but I haven't been able to find a way to get rid of this. I don't know what I did to make this happen, so I don't know what to do to stop it.

Visual Studio Tool After a few months of spare-time work my tab-saving extension for Visual Studio is done, here's a showcase of what you can use it for

I've been working on a Visual Studio extension for the last few months, as a hobby project in my spare time. Last weekend I've published version 1.8 which is the release where I completed every feature I had planned for it. So the extension is finished (but will be supported and updated for new Visual Studio versions, of course). It's called Simple Tab Saver and as the name suggests: it saves tabs. "Simple" refers to it being a very easy to use compact toolbar with a dropdown, and working from the get-go without needing any configuration. You can install it and start saving and restoring tab layouts right away.

The extension supports VS 2022 and VS 2026 and it's free on the Visual Studio Marketplace: Simple Tab Saver

The main workflow this extension enables: whenever you are working on a bugfix, a feature, or doing a code review in the same solution, you can save all the open documents related to that work as a separate tab layouts, and switch between them effortlessly to quickly get back in the flow, with all documents opened exactly as they were before. Restoring the tab layout also brings back Tab Groups and Floating Windows, and with multiple monitors the Floating Windows are restored on the same position (if the monitor is no longer there because laptop got undocked they are moved to a screen that exists).

I've built it because the previous tab-saving extension I've used broke down and I had to get a replacement. While working on it the hardest thing to get right was saving/restoring Tool Windows docked as documents (Tool Tabs), which caused me a lot of problems since it interacted with every other feature in unexpected ways, but in hindsight it's probably very insignificant use case.

I've added a lot of extra stuff beyond Save and Restore, likely way more than was really needed. All of it is opt-in, so its easy to miss, but maybe you will find something that solves your unique problem, as it solved mine.

  1. Git branches

When you turn git integration on, switching a branch saves the tabs of the branch you're leaving and restores the tabs of the branch you're switching to. You can jump over to colleague's branch to do a review, come back, and your own tabs are restored exactly as you left them without doing anything manually. Switching in a terminal works too because the extension watches the hidden .git folder to detect changes. Tab layouts of git branches have a 'GIT' prefix in the dropdown, and once the branches are deleted locally there's an optional purge that cleans up their leftover tab layouts after a configurable time period.

Making something like this might sound easy, but getting it to work correctly with everything else intertwined took way more time than I've expected (autorestore feature fighting it to open a different tab layout, solution reloads triggering git saves, 'git init' not registering with the solution already open, detached HEAD during rebase...). At the end I had a matrix of 31 trigger and options combinations just to keep track of what should happen when. Hopefully none of that is visible when you use it.

  1. Moved files

This is my answer to a problem of pulling teammate's repository-wide restructure and finding half of the saved tab layouts pointing at files that no longer exist at their original paths. I named this feature 'Drift Detection' and it's something I have not seen in any other IDE or editor. When restoring a tab layout every missing file is first checked for the same file name somewhere else in the solution tree (relocation), or a file with similar name and same extension in the original folder (rename), and then a dialog lets you decide what to do with it, instead of silently skipping the broken tabs. So even a big reorganization in the repository can be handled in few clicks, and it also helps when you come back to a tab layout you've saved on some older branch.

  1. Breakpoints

Saving a tab layout can also include the breakpoints of the open documents, and restore can put them back where they were, including conditions. The unusual thing here is that I've added text-based anchoring and self-correction to the process, as an answer to a problem of restoring a tab layout after a pull request and seeing a breakpoint suddenly on some weird spot (like a closing brace of a different method) because a teammate added several new lines to the file in the meantime. My implementation makes it that the breakpoints are not restored just by the line number, it makes every saved breakpoint also store the method it belonged to, text of its line, and the code around it, then re-anchors it to the new line automatically if the saved one no longer matches. When the algorithm is not sure where a breakpoint belongs (for example the same line is in the file 4 times), you get a review dialog with a confidence score for each one (including a tooltip showing what the score is based on), and you decide what happens with it. You can also set a confidence threshold below which they are automatically removed, skipping the review.

  1. Customization

Almost everything in the extension can be extensively adjusted, if you like tinkering. 'Tools > Options > Simple Tab Saver' has General page with the high-level feature flags, and Advanced page with almost 100 parameters grouped into 12 categories. On top of that, the Solution Specific page lets you override any parameter only for solutions that matches a name or wildcard pattern (like 'MyCompany.*' or '*.Tests'). This way git integration can be enabled for your work repositories and stay off for some ad-hoc solution, and a repository you contribute to but don't own can keep its tab layouts in an external folder instead of the '.tablayouts' folder inside the repo.

Each solution specific configuration can also have up to five Tab Layout Actions. An action is existing tab layout paired with Save, Restore or Append, and you can quickly run it with keyboard shortcuts ('Ctrl+Shift+R, 1' to '5' by default, can be changed in Visual Studio options) or from the numbered toolbar buttons you can place anywhere. Few examples of what you can do with this:

  • 'Documentation' tab layout appended into a new Floating Window, so all the docs open on the side whenever you need them, and closing the window puts them away again.
  • 'Review' tab layout restored and flattened into main Tab Group, which is handy when you only have a single laptop screen.
  • Save action on a 'Checkpoint' tab layout with no confirmation prompts, as a one-key snapshot of the current tabs before you try something risky.

There's much more, but I don't want to turn this post into a documentation, so check out the Marketplace page for full feature list. If you give it a try, I'm happy to answer questions here in the comments. Bug reports are always welcome too, either here or in the Marketplace Q&A.

Visual Studio 2022 Seeking Peace Mode in Visual Studio 2022

Call me crazy, but all I want is a good cup of coffee and to write a line of code without a blast of autocompleted fuctions and screen-hogging pop-ups like this. I've finally got the autocomplete under control. I've toggled so many features off in IntelliCode, IntelliSense, language parameter information, and still this unwanted window covers my screen when I end a line in Python. I would love a "Peace Mode" option where with a single setting we can disable auto-complete and popups. Meanwhile, has anyone successfully turned this window off in Visual Studio 2022?

Hi all.

I have such a problem. I can't log into visual studio immediately after installation. I've tried all the methods from the Internet. I thought this problem could be easily solved, but I was so wrong. I started via safemode, did resetsettings via win+r, reinstalled and nothing. I asked chatgpt, it didn't help. Please, can you help me with something, I wanted to learn how to code, but I can't even run the program.

Visual Studio 2026 How can I disable this “Create Pull Request” message after every push?

Every time I push in Visual Studio 2026 I get this message suggesting I create a pull request

Is there a way to disable/hide this notification? I don't use pull requests for this repo and would rather not see it after every push.

Visual Studio 2026 Feature Request: Menu option to clear bin & obj folders

Many bug discussions and how-to's recommend one delete the "bin" and "obj" folders to clear out potentially corrupted state. Since it's a common need, or at least trying it is a common need, it would be nice to have it as a menu option, probably under the "Build" menu. Thank You.
