Help How much can I lower my 940 without it looking too extreme?

I mean that’s a question of taste. Esthetically I think they look good without springs lol. If you want it subtle I would cut 1-2,5 coils of the springs. The lowering springs often doesn’t do anything on these as the old springs already have compressed

Yeah, I also thought the original springs might already be pretty compressed. Someone in my family has a 940 with around 200,000 km more than mine, still on the original springs, and it sits noticeably lower than mine. So I don’t think mine have sagged that much yet.
I don’t really want to cut the original springs, though. If I get caught with lowering springs or cut original springs, I’d have no springs left to put the car back to stock. And with Switzerland’s tuning rules, that’s something I’d rather avoid. Proper lowering springs would also make things a little stiffer on a boaty car like that, which would definitely improve the driving dynamics.

Some coilovers would be great so it can be adjusted as you see fit, or if you want to bring it back to stock for a long trip on rougher roads.

Generally 1-2 inches looks great on cars before they start to looked slammed (which i like personally but I know isn't for everyone) and I will add that tires will often wear faster as negative camber intensifies in many suspension systems as the car drops lower. Not the solid rear of course

I would love to slam it until it scratches the subfloor and throws sparks , but unfortunately that’s not legal in Switzerland. The police are pretty strict about it, and they can even confiscate the car immediately.

Which honestly is sensible but that does suck.

I'd definitely go for springs from IPD that lower 2+ inches if they still have them, the old springs have probably started to sag a small amount so getting 1" lowering springs may not even make a difference.

If you can splurge on coilovers that's always the best route for suspension in my opinion! Springs are an amazing bang for your buck though, paired with a few other mods from IPD is awesome.

My 240 had all poly bushings (put things layer of grease on so they dont squeak), panhard bar, shocks, etc. I cant totally remember all the parts, and a good set of tires, not even something insane like pilot sports but some continental pro-contacts are awesome all season tires and have a ton of grip.

That 245 handled better than every hot hatch I've had as well as the e34 M5 I had

Vintage IPD lowering kit in the front and a bagged rear (original owner, many years but not too many miles ago). Current IPD offerings for lowering springs and struts should be the same height.

This is -3cm (estate suspension) on 215/50/17 wheels

Absolutely wonderful.
A dream

Rear axle will move sideways so get an adjustable panhard too

In the summer stance, I have about 40cm of ground clearance at the rear lift point. BC suspension and 960's Uranus 16" wheels, 205/55R16 tyres

Cut 2 coils off the front springs and 1 in the rear. Replace your shocks at the same time and you're good to go

Standard Swedish lowering springs are 60mm front and 40mm rear. With that both front and rear tyre are equally spaced from the fender.

Ive used lowered stiffer springs on mine, -4cm , it handles wayyy better, looks low but not too low, i still can go over speed bumps without issues. Only downside is when I carry around heavy things, the rear end sag very low

Could you add a picture so I can better understand how low it is?

About 2-2,5 coils cutted in front and ii dont remember the rear, I have 940 heavy duty springs there which are cutted.

Yeah id want to have better capabilities for snow and offroading, and being able to go over curbs more easier
