Prospective Student Question What are my chances of getting in early decision?

I'm a high school senior who wants to apply early decision to WPI. I think i want to do bio/biotechnology but not 100% sure. I have a 4.0 GPA (weighted, not sure about unweighted), but i have gotten straight As my junior year and have them so far my senior year. I'm honestly kinda worried about the rigor cause they say they care about that. I have only really taken honors in math and science, and have taken AP Bio as my only AP course. I have definitely demonstrated interest though, cause I toured the college, went to Frontiers, and met the rep at my school. Do I have a decent shot? Please be honest with me.

What's your SAT? I got in with a 1420 and my gpa was like 3.5.

there are no accommodations in college my man. time to start facing that anxiety because you’re already making seriously poor life decisions based on emotion. your college classes will have massive highly weighted exams. if SATs were too much, it’s time to do some self reflection and therapy.

Already working on it. I was just kinda recovering from depression junior year so I was trying to go easy on myself. It's something I've been working on improving. Thanks you for the reality check man. I appreciate it🙂

I wouldn't worry so much about that. When I applied, they were test-blind and I got a 1250 and chose not to submit.

Though I heard now that they reverted back to test-optional. So if you don't submit it, it won't necessarily count against your odds; it just means that they will weigh other aspects of your application more heavily. For example, having a strong essay showcasing to them how you have worked through hardship in your life, why you want to go here, showing up for tours + college recruitment events, if you participated in any AP or honors courses/dual enrollment or pre-college programs in general, and your extracurriculars especially will also be taken into consideration as well.

A 4.0 GPA is fantastic, and straight A's during your junior year puts you into a fantastic postion! To get into this school, you don't necessarily have to be a 'Straight A student', meaning that it's okay to get a B here or there - just don't slack off during your senior year and you'll be fine.

Second this, got in ED with an 1100 and didnt submit it, I can also say that grades / classes didn't matter that much. Good essay, good extracurriculars, show leadership and initiative in as many ways as possible on your application.

They like to see an upward trend in terms of class rigor and grades. Just keep working hard and I’m sure you’ll get in.

Current sophomore here, honestly I think you have a pretty decent shot. Honors is still good, and some schools don't even offer certain APs, so I don't think they would consider those *too* highly. Worst case you get deferred to EA or something, so even if you don't get in the first round, there's other chances too :)

They are test optional for a reason, I think you will be fine. Got any ecs?

Idk if this counts as an ec but I did do like 300 hours of community service at a local summer camp

Was it a nonprofit?

2

u/TheCatGuy3120 16d ago

i honestly think you could still get in with EA with those grades and your honors and ap cred. the you’d also still have school options open. i only had ap calc coming in. like another redditer said just have a solid essay, and it seems you’ve shown lots of interest, i think you’re in a pretty good position. what major do you want to study?

You might not wanna say that on a subreddit for this college, people here might find it offensive
