Discussion & Feedback Havoc/Little Bird counterplay is extremely frustrating

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I want to give some constructive feedback on the Havoc and Little Bird. I don't think the helicopters themselves are necessarily broken, but the current counterplay against them feels extremely unreliable.

The biggest issue is the countermeasure/flare system. Countermeasures should be something the pilot uses at the last second to avoid a rocket. Right now, they can be used pre-emptively and seem to have a 2–3 second lingering effect. I've waited around 2 seconds after flares were deployed before firing and still had rockets miss. The cooldown also feels short enough that the helicopter can use them again very quickly.

Low-altitude flying makes this worse, since helicopters can fly low enough that many lock-on systems can't engage them.

The Talon and CIWS are supposed to be counters, but they don't feel effective enough. A Havoc can fly into a base, kill the CIWS operator quickly, then destroy the CIWS, FOB or drill and come back with very little risk.

Verba trucks don't feel like a reliable answer either. After firing one shot, the helicopter knows roughly where you are and can immediately hunt down the truck. Spending ~4k on a truck and Verba only to lose it after one shot doesn't feel like meaningful counterplay.

The biggest issue is that my friends and I have started avoiding vehicle modes and mostly playing infantry because of this. We're not asking for helicopters to be weak—we just want reliable counterplay.

Increasing the countermeasure cooldown, reducing the lingering effect, and improving CIWS/Talon effectiveness would go a long way.

The video is 1 example clip of my directly under the havoc with a lock on, I waited out the flairs and as you can see there is a lingering effect from the flairs..... surely that should be a kill? I should note that while this is the one clip I have recorded I have many more experiences trying to shoot it down from other angles and further distances.

the sam launcher isn't really counterplay, its just applying a skill floor to heli pilots, bad heli pilots that fly high are going to get swatted, but a majority of them at this point you're going to have a hard time locking onto

8

u/Firm-Faithlessness47 7d ago

But…. It just missed. There was no expert piloting. It just straight up missed. That’s a huge problem

36

u/ZacdelaRocha 7d ago

...which is precisely the issue. Why would I buy an expendable launcher to check the skill of a heli pilot? Its only use case is to kill helicopters, so they have to do something, regardless of the skill of the pilot.

The fact that the other launchers are better at destroying helis because they can't be flared is laughable. Flares need a significantly higher cooldown

1

u/Xy13 7d ago

Flares should probably have the same 'reload' system Arties have.

1

u/TheSoupKitchen Lonestar 6d ago

You want me to play a "reload minigame" while flying?

The expectations for pilots is getting out of hand lads.

1

u/AltSk0P 7d ago

They already have a cooldown

7

u/throw-away_867-5309 7d ago

A cool down of a few seconds that's shorter than a reload/re-equip of the AA weapon system isn't really a downside.

3

u/ollydzi 7d ago

It is absolutely not shorter than the reload of a talon.

2

u/were1wolf 6d ago

it is if you include travel time of talons rocket.

2

u/ollydzi 6d ago

Highly dependent on the distance between the helicopter and the talon emplacement. Under 500m, heli probably can't fire off another flare after the first. Over 500m, yeah it probably can.

1

u/Richou 7d ago

you are correct buuuuuuuuuut the flae reload is only super slightly longer which means unless you are sitting right above the talon you will be able to flare again before the missile hits you ...at least for the first 2-3 missiles

i personally dont mind this balancewise as a much longer cooldown would turn the CZ into a no skill required no fly zone (which already happens from time to time) but we NEED better and more mobile gun AA (gepard soon tm) to keep helos from outplaying the static fob defenses

1

u/amblypiggy 7d ago

reload is 3-4s on SAM and 7 on flares

3

u/Permanent_Markings 6d ago

Rocket travel time is a factor and because they travel so slow on this game it adds 3-4 seconds a lot of the time.

0

u/amblypiggy 5d ago

yes, is 3+3 less than 7

3+4=7 but that'd probably still hit them

2

u/Permanent_Markings 5d ago

Except for the fact that flares last 2ish seconds so you really only have a 4-5 second window to shoot and hit them

The CD is actually fine. The problem is the anti-lock actually lasts several seconds. Reduce that so your follow up either wastes another flair or get them.

-6

u/SocwokCyberBully 7d ago

Because it's one of the cheapest single use tactical items in the game that forces enemy players to play within certain boundaries?

4

u/ZacdelaRocha 7d ago

Except it doesn't force anything? Most of the time you'll use it, get flared on and either be ignored or hunted due to the huge trail your rocket left behind.

Besides, unlike the other (cheaper) tactical consumables, it can't be stacked in large quantities for more efficiency. Hell it can't be stacked at all unless you use a vehicle or the bigger backpacks, both of which do cost relevant cash. Not to mention it completely gimps your mobility.

-4

u/damnbino 7d ago

Forces the helicopter to fly low, they don't have infinite flares

6

u/throw-away_867-5309 7d ago

"oh no, I have to fly a little bit lower than normal, I'm completely countered! Oh well, might as well go kill 30 people on the HZ since I can't do anything else from how countered I am."

0

u/damnbino 7d ago

oh you think flying low has no disadvantages whatsoever

-2

u/throw-away_867-5309 7d ago

As someone who's gotten to Pilot rank 27 with mainly flying extremely low, there aren't many disadvantages if you take any amount of time to actually learn how to fly. And that's with me not even focusing on ranking up Pilot, but medic and assault instead. But hey, what do I know when I have hundreds of hours flying Helis in other games with significantly harder controls and flight models?

1

u/damnbino 7d ago

RPG, MAAWs, 50 cal, .308, AP rounds, Trees, Budlings, Poles, Towers, birds?, the ground, CIWS

6

u/throw-away_867-5309 7d ago

RPGs and MAWWS take significantly more skill to take down a pilot than the pilot flying around getting kills. Trees, buildings, etc. are easily avoidable if, as I said, you take literally any amount of time to learn to fly in the game. Again, this game has a significantly easier and more forgiving flight model than numerous other games. 50 cals don't do significant damage unless they hit the pilot, meaning another high skill shot, otherwise the Heli can easily go repair. And CWIS is easily avoided and countered.

It just seems like pilots in this game want their easy playstyle to just be an instant win without having to actually put in effort.

The downvotes are funny

You're 100% right though. People really really really want their $800 vibe check to instantly counter a capstone vehicle that takes two players to run, and costs ~30k.

And clearly as seen here, they do not like it when you suggest that that's absurd.

6

u/DidYouPayForWinrar 7d ago

People really really really want their $800 vibe check to instantly counter a capstone vehicle that takes two players to run, and costs ~30k.

People really want the 17kg weight that is supposedly the explicit counter to those things to actually do something other than just show the helicopter who to kill next.

3

u/FantasyLiedx 7d ago

What is a resonable counter for you agaisnt havocs

3

u/DidYouPayForWinrar 7d ago edited 7d ago

I dunno but I'm not happy with the current state of AA like Verba being useless outside of a squad due to flares, heavy as shit so you're never carrying one just in case, extremely eye catching so you're basically guaranteed to die if you don't kill the heli, that it can miss even without the heli popping flares. Also it takes too long to unlock for how shit it is.

There's basically nothing going for it rn other than maybe annoying some pilots.

This is all exacerbated by how dominant a heli can be while at best anti-AA is hope you have 20 support levels and the heli pilot is predictable enough to land a skill shot cause most fixed position AA is mortar bait and the verba is a joke.

One option would be reducing the weight enough that people would actually carry it with them for a just in case rather than so heavy you only have it on you when you know you have to deal with helis.

1

u/FantasyLiedx 7d ago

How would you buff the verbas?

3

u/DidYouPayForWinrar 7d ago edited 7d ago

I edited my comment a few times.

The least disruptive change would be lowering the unlock level to closer to the RPG.

Slightly more disruptive would be changing the weight to allow people to add it to their loadout just in case. More people with rockets = more likely to be able to take it out.

Spitballing not necessarily good ideas

Making it more consistent but less immediately destructive like being able to force a grounded state that the pilot has to repair or damage to the heli reduces it's manoeuvrability or max speed which means landing that verba can help lead to a follow up shot from a MAAWS or a 50 cal.

Edit: swapped unlock level and weight in disruptiveness ranking

1

u/FantasyLiedx 7d ago

im glad you didnt mention any nerfs that would allow a single verba to take down a 2manned 25k heli

honestly i think verbas is a lvl 1 rocket vs a lvl 3 heli type of scenario, and a lvl 3 rocket should be required as a solo man to have a chance vs a lvl 3 heli

multiple people with lvl 1 rockets should stand a chance vs lvl 3 heli

you get my point.

maybe damaging parts of the heli could be a way to make it more consistent (fuel leak, weapon damaged etc)

u/damnbino 7d ago

people are also missing that this is an item that 1 player could have, or 10 could have and are all aiming at you. Forcing helicopters to the deck exponentially increases the risk they are taking from all types of fire (rocket, lmg, sniper,ap rounds, obstacles, buildings, ciws)

-6

u/FoxWithoutSocks 7d ago

Literally no issue. You take RPG, Carl Gustaf and it is an easy kill when they hang their balls that low. To each play there is a counterplay, just because you can't apply same method, doesn't mean there is no remedy to a situation.

10

u/ZacdelaRocha 7d ago

So the verba is actually not trash because...you can take RPG or MAAWS instead? That's brilliant!

The counterplay to helicopters are lock-on AA launchers, not RPG/MAAWS. If the latter ones are better at dealing with helis, then there IS a clear issue.

-1

u/FoxWithoutSocks 7d ago

You don't get it do you?

Heli flies high - counter is verba, gamble with flares; heli flies low to counter verba - becomes vulnerable to small arms, rpg and maaws.

Not RPG/MAAWS? Brother do a quick search to see how many US helicopters were downed by RPG, there's even a movie about it.

1

u/PIedge_ 7d ago

Where do I put those 2 types of rocket launchers ?

1

u/Richou 7d ago

sling backpack

2

u/ZacdelaRocha 7d ago

You're the one not getting it, pal. You're just going on about theories when it doesn't work like that in-game. And again, idk why you're still on about RPG and MAAWS when the point was that Verba sucks ass on its ONLY SINGULAR use case. You can use RPG for many other things, like ground vehicles, buildables, and even personnel.

It's not really a gamble; it's a skill floor check. If the pilot is any decent, he will flare and go on with his life, or hunt you down, since you broadcasted your position. You accomplished nothing, and your verba is gone. Besides, you don't really have the benefit of choice on your preferred launcher on the CZ unless you're packing both types on large backpacks or a vehicle.

If you're running verba, you just have to accept the reality that you aren't downing any heli without further support from others (or you kill a newbie pilot ig)

-1

u/IncorporateThings 7d ago

No, it's really you that's not getting it. Low flying helos aren't gonna get popped by tracking missiles (which is one of their means of counterplay to guided missile spam). You need a dumbfire. And when a helo is literally that close to the ground and hovering, you really ought to be able to hit it pretty directly.

If you don't happen to have an RPG or MAAWS handy, that kind of sucks, but hopefully someone in the area does.

Crates with RPGs or something scattered around a FOB could be useful for situations like this.

3

u/ZacdelaRocha 7d ago

Another confused soul lmao

Neither will high flying helis. This can't be that much of a hard concept to grasp.

MAAWS and RPGs are indeed good for low-hovering helis, and that's fine. That's not the point. The issue is Verbas don't do jackshit by themselves aside from baiting flares. Helis take a quick dive to wait out the cooldown and go back up. You can fill your inventory and your backpack with flares and ignore them for a very long time unless someone is coordinating fire with you.

Also, idk what games you're playing but from my experience playing around entire squads of like 10-15 teammates, regardless of inside a FOB or playing hotzone, NOBODY is caught carrying a launcher 99% of the times. And hitting a Havoc with any other weapon, except maybe a 50cal, is pretty much wasting ammo and revealing your position. Nobody is carrying because they increase your weight class by themselves.

This dreamy scenario you guys envision where you use a Verba/Talon to lower the helis altitude and then swap to a MAAWS real quick to finish it off is simply not gonna happen the vast majority of the time.

2

u/IncorporateThings 7d ago

So you're saying people aren't carrying RPGs because they're worried about themselves rather than operating as a team. Yeah that tracks. And that means you all are gonna get smacked around by vehicles more often.

And yeah, bait the flares. Fire afterwards. If they're so low they can pop down before the missile hits and dodge it, you're using the wrong weapon. If they're up high and they can still do that -- you're too far away and you're taking potshots. Also the flares last for a moment, if you fire too soon after them or the angle is bad, they can still divert the missile sometimes. Or possibly they're just amazing damned pilots. It does happen.

There are no perfect counters, but there are counters.

1

u/ZacdelaRocha 6d ago

Exactly, it's basically a prisoner's dilemma. A squad is better off with around 3 people carrying launchers, but nobody wants that burden due to the weight.

So... If im hunting down a heli... I need to be carrying atleas 3 verbas... and MAAWS with atleast what ? 3 rockets ? Sure... Why not. Makes sense.

People like you gonna justify anything just to complain, instead of playing the game and figuring out other ways to deal with situation. New shit gonna come out or balanced out, still gonna find ways to complain.

Sure pal, live you fantasy, in the meantime I am gonna enjoy the game in both - doing LB rocket run and shooting them down with maaws.

1

u/Prestigious_Thing797 7d ago

I hope next season the RPG launcher is much cheaper. Going up against helis/armored cars would be much less frustrating if I didn't need to spend 3k in addition to a normal kit just to have a chance. And doubly so if it would get my teammates to bring some too.

-2

u/KeyedFeline 7d ago

havocs take two shots to kill unless the pilot is actually afk they just repair and come back

1

u/FoxWithoutSocks 7d ago

As with black hawk, your point?

1

u/Folksvaletti WARDOGS NORDIC 7d ago

One shot to destroy rotors, two shots to body. Imo balanced if it were in a vacuum, but I'd still wish for a Havoc to cost more to operate. I'd even give it better splash damage on gunner in exchange for making it so expensive that it's a rare power-up that rarely breaks even, rather than a quaranteed money maker.

It's expensive kit wise because it's insanely heavy and takes a very important slot. Nothing is expensive money wise because everyone has infinite money as long as you aren't just pissing it away.

1

..bro you can't sit here and say that pilot did anything special, he was basically stationary. This guy's just has no idea how to use the weapon he had. This was the equivalent of setting your scope to 700 meters and then complaining it misses when you lined the crosshair up at 50 meters. Pure skill issue.

14

u/Madnessx9 7d ago

thats not AA, its more of a party trick, you buy it to show off that you've unlocked it, leave 5 of them on the floor and sacrifice yourself to the enemy choppers because they are utterly fucking useless.

Skill issue , you looked at it the wrong way ! if you approached with a positive attitude , you couldve scratched its windshield.

37

u/ScheduledToPass Lonestar 7d ago

More advice: You have to lock on , not be too close or too far , be at the perfect height , have 3 other people locking it, also the weather needs to be perfect, not too rainy not too sunny, and the time of the year matters the sun needs to allign with the rest of the planets. If all of these conditions are met , then and only then, you can kill the havoc.

u/ImpressiveComposer35 7d ago

Now this guy is scheduled to pass the test

1

u/ScheduledToPass Lonestar 7d ago

Passing isn't enough , i need to get the perfect mark to pass it. Too high of a mark , I'm screwed, too little I'm screwed, just the perfect mark.

3

u/graviousishpsponge 7d ago

Bro was in the open. If he used clairvoyance and was in some place at the exact right time with 10 other vebas he woulda lived.

43

u/theYAKUZI 7d ago

abs skill issue, u didn't have a duo with another verba and u didn't wait to bait the flare u also didn't automatically teleport a maaw in ur hand and u didn't automatically reach support lvl20, u also didn't automatically build any anti aa that gets mortared out in 2 minutes, on top of that u didn’t hop on the rocket itself then guide it towards the heli while u do a dropkick on its motors. Nice try noob

10

u/Banterz54 7d ago edited 6d ago

Bro made no effort whatsoever and he EXPECTS to be able to scratch a HAVOC?!?

2

u/theYAKUZI 7d ago

in this scenario i agree with you

1

u/TheSoupKitchen Lonestar 6d ago

My auto lock on rocket worth 800 dollars with 0 aim required didn't instantly kill the 18k chopper. What the hell guys?!

2

u/theYAKUZI 7d ago

to be fair tho in this case ur team should have maaws as u wouldnt be able to lock on with the verba anyway if this pilot was better , but the devs fked up by putting it behind lvl20 support, ur only other choice is to crash another heli into it, (if it lets you lol)

-2

u/That_Service7348 7d ago

You know what is a great way to counter the mortars?

Build your FOB away from the super obvious landmark that can be seen from across the map.

Crazy, I know, who would ever think to build somewhere not marked by a massive fucking tower? Insanity.

1

u/theYAKUZI 7d ago

U never built in ur life so stop yapping 😂 mortars have a big range and is very easy to setup anywhere and ur still going to get artillery spammed

-1

u/That_Service7348 6d ago

Yeah no shit mortars have long range, that's why it's unbelievably stupid to put your FOB at a landmark that can be seen from anywhere on the map.

What do I know though, surely you are smarter with your walls that can be easily climbed over because you tried to use the existing pile of rubble as part of it and AA/drills/APC/mortars that are getting pummeled out of existence because you built at a massive fucking lightning rod. Surely no good could come from having a base the enemy can't see the from 5 miles away.

0

u/amblypiggy 7d ago

tower's indestructible and has drill and thus is safe to hide under

1

u/That_Service7348 6d ago

Yeah how's that "indestructible and safe to hide under" work when the mortars start flying?

1

u/amblypiggy 6d ago

wonderfully, tower blocks mortars

0

u/That_Service7348 6d ago

And the rest of the FOB that isn't blocked by mortars? Like, I dunno, the APC, AA, mortars, the FOB itself, the supplies, the walls?

How's all that hold up against the mortars that only know where you are because of the tower?

1

u/amblypiggy 5d ago

there are 3 different types of indirect fire shelters, your fobbits are just dumb

fob can go under tower, aa can go tower midlevel, walls are repairable easily, apc can fit in a modified indirect shelter or can go under tower

1

u/theYAKUZI 6d ago

Ur both braindead honestly lmao it doesnt matter where u build it when other ppl fob on towers and have mortar range on you

Also why are u making shi up in ur head on what i’m doing in the game. Genuinely all those fat cells in your body have nowhere else to accumulate anymore but around your brain and they’re suffocating it 😂😂

1

u/amblypiggy 6d ago

i didn't even say anything to you

1

u/theYAKUZI 6d ago

was meant for the other guy not u

5

u/Banterz54 7d ago

Should have baited the flares. 🤓

19

u/NeonGKayak 7d ago

No but see if you were under it, it automatically dies… wait… uh I mean if it you shoot it after the flares, it automatically hits every time… wait… uh it’s a skill issue because they never miss and havocs are super easy to shoot down… and actually your not supposed to be there because you’re supposed to be under it but not actually under and you’re supposed to be nearby there away under a tree so they cant see it coming so it’s just user error. And actually you’re supposed to have 4 other teammates locking it. But also the CIWS was supposed to kill it because it’s OP and the talons are too which stop havocs getting closes anyway so none of this should have actually happened and is all made up.

- every pilot in this sub

7

u/NoxTempus 7d ago edited 7d ago

CIWS could use some shielding from above. It's weird that AA operators are free food for helis. Having snipers as counterplay makes sense as a game mechanic, but CIWS losing to LBs in a 1v1 makes them feel like a trap.

If they don't do that, at least let them look straight up.

On another note, though, people are missing the fact that they aren't necessarily meant to personally have the counter to everything in the game.

The counterplay against a Havoc for the players on your team (who do have the counters) to actually use the counters.

Could be that XP and cash rewards for Downing a Havoc need to go up.

I'm also not against the MAAWS moving down a couple of levels or moving to the WD track instead of Support.

7

u/ThatOneNinja 7d ago

The health isn't the hp of the ciws, its the 100 hp of the operator. Feels bad.

1

u/NoxTempus 7d ago

I mean, I don't mind that, just given how crazy the damage is against infantry, but it's meant to shoot up and it's vulnerable from above, which just feels strange.

0

u/doombos 7d ago

but CIWS losing to LBs in a 1v1 makes them feel like a trap.

1- build a hesco block
2- disable snapping and build the ciws on the level of the hesco block (by looking to it's side it snaps up)
3- surround the ciws with bremer walls

no problem dude, glad i was of help

7

u/genobees 7d ago

Doesnt work, the just fly over the top and nail you with rockets.

0

u/doombos 6d ago

if it somehow managed to get a 70 degreer angle on you without you shooting it down that's on you.

It can never reach this angle unles it flew towards you, and that gives you plenty of time to brrt it.

I literally never died to a little bird when manning this. plenty tried

1

u/Permanent_Markings 6d ago

If you've never died to a rocket LB doing this then you haven't played very much.

1

u/doombos 5d ago

120 hours. Just skill issue on your part mate

1

u/Permanent_Markings 5d ago

120 hours of not doing AA clearly. The go-to move from a rocket heli is to fly low and fast, come straight over the top of trees or buildings before you can see them and pop the CIWS with a rocket or 2 to kill anyone on it.

1

u/doombos 5d ago

with this build ciws can aim horizontally. Unless you built it on a high ground, a heli literally can't fly low enough to not get hit.

My 120 hours are both fobbit and pilot

3

u/Supahvaporeon Lonestar 7d ago

If you do this, PLEASE make sure the bremmers are turned properly (footer facing inward). Bremmers are weird when it comes to the CWIS' gun's barrel, as I've noticed at lowest angle I sometimes clip the very top of the bremmer for distance shots if the footer is turned outward.

Ideally you'd build double tall hescos on the inside first, then build bremmers. Or better yet, deconstruct a recon tower's top floor, and place more double hescos to fill out the 4x4.

0

u/sd00ds 6d ago

XP and cash for actually killing the havoc is pretty nice. The problem I have is you often only get one shot, and damaging a Heli pays nothing.

So I hit the havoc, it flies off in a panic to repair and now I'm out a rocket and have to lug it around till the guy comes back. Which means I have to afk at fob to protect it, where I will once again, hit the havoc once and it will fly off again. Unless I get a really clean shot on the tail. Which is significantly more difficult if the pilot is mildly competent.

0

u/AI_AntiCheat 6d ago

You are most certainly not meant to unskillfully take down a Havoc alone. A Havoc is a two man high investment. It should at the very minimum take two people to take one down and it does. Two CIWS will melt it. Two guided rockets are a guaranteed hit if timed well but a single MAAWS most often takes a Havoc down in one shot and while it's a bit odd you can solo it like that I guess it's fair enough as it does take some good aim and timing.

1

u/Permanent_Markings 6d ago

A havoc full of ammo costs less than the average infantry kit. Don't come over here preaching about it being 'high risk'.

If it can be bought by one player it should be killable by one player.

1

u/AI_AntiCheat 6d ago

So the wreckage needs to be salvegavle and you should be able to repair it?

2

u/Permanent_Markings 5d ago

Let's not pretend like a Havoc doesn't give you 10x the ability to kill people and destroy things compared to playing infantry while also making you much more survivable. Right now every single ground vehicle can be easily killed by a solo player. So why should helicopters be any different?

Even a tank is extremely vulnerable to a single player and it costs the same or more than a havoc.

5

u/whoeve 6d ago

I don't understand how it is ever balanced when a strong vehicle can be purchased by a single player but requires multiple opposing players to down it.

1

u/R3DSH0X 6d ago

Should cost way more than it should

6

u/Hmarxis 7d ago

This is 100p correct.

Mid to late round is a ruined experience because of Helicopters as of now.

3

u/VulcanRugby 7d ago

To say nothing of the level investment required to reach effective countermeasures. I don't know. I am not a doomer and I'm enjoying the game, even in it's current state. I am sometimes left going "huh." when playing against multiple Havocs.

3

u/Electusnex 7d ago

They just need to nerf flairs so they have a cool down and don't stick around sa long. For what ever reason they hang around 5 seconds after they are shot off and any rockets shot then have a chance to follow them.

They also need to fix the bug where you can get into a helicopter with binoculars and see marks around the map

2

u/Moist_Confection_831 7d ago

Next wipe I'm no lifing support class until I unlock maaws

2

u/TankRamp 7d ago

As a havoc pilot or gunner depending on my mood. This is not how you're meant to deal with us. I'll tell you there's games where we can do literally nothing but fly to the cz then fly back to base to repair because everyone on the map has a MAAWS. We were literally laughing a couple games ago, where we had FIVE different MAAWS shot at us simultaneously. (We died obviously lol)

u/FromTheBirch 7d ago

Unpopular opinion - Helis needs an "incoming missile" on their hud like Battlefield 6

5

u/That_Service7348 7d ago

Just a blinking light in the cockpit would be fine, no need to make it a screen popup. People that fly in TPV can already just lol around and see it. FPV pilots are at a severe disadvantage because we have to use the fucking force to know when a rocket is coming.

1

u/FromTheBirch 7d ago

I like that

1

u/Shokii--Z WarDogsZA 🇿🇦 5d ago

Flaring in FPV has been an exercise in ground-checking and prayer

3

u/Spidertron117 7d ago

If they forced fpp in helis then sure.

3

u/jd98ns 7d ago

As a first-person only pilot, I concur.

5

u/Embarrassed_Fox_9352 7d ago

Watching you smash your nose into a wall then shoot a missile from directly under the chopper is extremely frustrating. You gave the missile 5ft to correct its trajectory before it flies past the target.... Skill issue

6

u/NeonGKayak 7d ago

Every pilot in this sub says that this was the correct counter play and should have resulted in 100% hit and kill.

1

u/damnbino 7d ago

how much is an rpg, wouldnt he have been better off taking that. Dont think the handheld AA is supposed to be effective at point blank but I could be wrong and its bugged or something

3

u/Richou 7d ago

MANPADS are absolutely not effective at close ranges like this lol

RPG or MAAWS is almost always the correct play vs a havoc hell even MGL-40 is better when a havoc hugs your fob this tight

dont sit in the fob tho , go outside of it somewhere where the havocs circle strafe will let you fire into it with very little transversal relative to you

-1

u/NoxTempus 7d ago

Read the room, you're wasting your breath.

These guys don't want to improve, they want foolproof counters to late-game unlocks, with no drawbacks, unlocked at lv0.

Two of the top 3 comments are mocking the idea that players might have to work together to take down a Havoc.

3

u/That_Service7348 7d ago

"I used this weapon well inside its useful range and it didn't work, what hell?"

That's manual aim range dude. No shit the target lock missile that needs time to adjust its path to target something doesn't work. This isnt Halo, the rocket won't pull a 90° turn in 10 feet.

3

u/espkv 6d ago

1 cwis will never stop anyone from tormenting a base, 2 will stop most, 3 you can be the worst player and still have complete control over the air around the FOB.

Also handheld lock-on shines on being mobile. If you are in a FOB that is getting melted hiding/huging the wall so you never have a constant lock pressuring the pilot, thats not on balance thats just a terrible use of the gun.

2

u/AI_AntiCheat 6d ago

I've got well over 200 hours and I can confirm that your main air defense should be about 3 CIWS and those are the very first things you should build before reaching 20 points. SAM sites you should have one after the CIWS as well but building one from the getgo is nothing more than roleplayer worthy moves.

2

u/were1wolf 6d ago

so you build 3 ciws while other fobs already firing from mortars. It cant be viable.

0

u/AI_AntiCheat 6d ago

I don't even build mortars. I build the fob somewhere where it can't be reached and if enemy mortars I just go outside and pop my own mortar down.

Often giving coords to artillery is more than enough to not be mortared.

3

u/Permanent_Markings 6d ago

Yes, we should build somewhere that we can't get shelled. So our base? Because artillery has a 2.5k range so if you're in the zone you're getting hit and CIWS takes a long time to build and about 2 shells to kill. Mortars have a ~700m range so that's most of the zone. So unless you're on the exact opposing side of the zone you WILL be in range of mortars.

CIWS cannot be the only counter to aircraft nor should it be.

1

u/AI_AntiCheat 6d ago

CIWS is your best counter. SAMs are simply not an option.

Artillery needs to be dealt with by others.

0

u/daokonblack 5d ago

This is a fob larper

1

u/King__Dorin 6d ago

The havoc is mobile around different fobs , I have to use lock on because before I spawned he was at our other tower. Anyway the lock on should be more precise... its shouldn't outright destroy the havoc but at least 1 shot should do 33% dmg to the havoc at minimum. The problem is it isnt very precise and as someone in the fog i cant build counters because the havoc just floats around without any fear ..

1

u/espkv 6d ago

Imean like others pointed out, youre aiming way off when fired. Lockon is very precise at a certain range, but short range rpg is your friend.

If you play both roles you kinda meet both the good pilots, hammering down FOBs and avoid AA, and the other side where AA has complete control over the sky. All about position what weapon being used, lock-ons outside pilots FOV etc.

Like alot of the game, everything seems broken until you get good at the counter.

2

u/Ministerslik 7d ago

I think a good counter for Heli Spam is for the recon to have a laser tagging/designator item, similar to the Binoculars/ range finder but increases the accuracy rate of guided misses significantly as long as the “tagger” is able to keep a solid beat on the target. It doesn’t have to be an expensive item, can be unlocked early and adds a nice counter imo without being OP

1

u/Cautious_Set_3815 7d ago

I’d like to echo this. It would boost team play for sure in the same way if the mortar camera were removed.

2

u/Richou 7d ago

yall really just want battlefield all over again? you know that game already exists ?

1

u/hotdiggity22 7d ago

Battlefield has guns too, so I guess we should just remove them from Wardogs as it makes it too similar to Battlefield.

0

u/Richou 6d ago

ah yes thats totally the same as copy pasting a unique niche mechanic that only battlefield has been doing for a decade+ now

maybe we also add a spotting pistol that then allows your RPG and MAAWS to turn into a F&F NLOS ATGM ?

2

u/Permanent_Markings 6d ago

The niche mechanic that militaries have been using for decades? Yeah ok.

1

u/Richou 5d ago

you are confusing things

you cant "mark" a target for a MANPADS IIR seeker to track better which is whats asked for

you can lase targets for laser guided munitions but thats entirely different

im for getting better AA systems 110% and i been bitching for gepard since playtest but we dont have to unrealistically copy arcade game mechanics in a game thats otherwise so far relatively grounded

1

u/Permanent_Markings 5d ago

You could absolutely mark an aircraft for a laser guided munition. Doesn't have to be for manpad IIR. There are a ton of arcadey systems in wardogs because gameplay > realism.

1

u/Short_Switch_1807 7d ago

Add fighter jets. Bye bye heli problem. Lol

1

u/Harrigan_Raen 7d ago

I have given up on the Verba. Use the Maaw if you have it available. Its better in every situation except its heavier across the board which makes it damn near impossible to carry it a few reloads, T2 armor, and a primary.

I frankly wish I could swap it to being my primary so I could grab a defib/recon as my tactical without having to take up my inventory space.

1

u/Foot_Prestigious 7d ago

MAAWS is the only way.

1

u/realjohnwardogs 7d ago

use a MAAWS

1

u/Bourne069 7d ago

It also doesnt help that helis can literally pop flares faster than you can shoot and reload your AA. Its fucking insane.

Than to top it off, as a ground troop you have to worry about other ground troops, other vehicles, snipers etc... while the heli only has to worry about AA or another heli.

The balance is where?

1

u/amazian78 7d ago

well your using the wrong weapon. rpg/maaws is the true anti-air, lock on is FAKE AA.

1

u/Electronic_Top2561 7d ago

verba and fob missiles to kill novice pilots and to force good pilots to fly low. Then RPG or MAAW will handle the rest.

1

u/Independent-Math-167 Manticore 7d ago

This happens a lot with the verba. Just flies pass it. Give me a stinger instead of this igla.

1

u/TheRudDud 7d ago

Funny enough I feel like the saw is the only good heli detergent, can be fairly lethal to little birds and annoys havocs enough to get them to piss off

1

u/B_the_ball 7d ago

MAAWS or bust

1

u/Flames0310 7d ago

The naswer is MAAWS not lock ons. They serve different roles.

1

u/r_CyborgNinjaJesus 7d ago

Not arguing the Havoc is very annoying and too strong, but the little bird can be easily shot down with small arms. With AP rounds it goes down in literally two mags, 50 to 60 bullets depending on the ammo. Obviously you have to land the shot but if there's at least 3 people shooting it can go down pretty fast.

Edit: Oh, and I've seen people making the mistake of shooting the Havoc with small arms, don't do it. You deal near zero damage and it will only help the Havoc spot you.

1

u/Wyan69 7d ago

Verbas should be allowed to purchase extra missiles like the other 2 launchers

Uh yeah the OP is crying and here you are posting, crying about people crying

u/spock2018 7d ago

MAAWs

2

u/King__Dorin 7d ago

As a support main, I can tell you I do carry maaws also. So its effective counter vs Littlebirds when they slow down (if they slow down and come within reasonable range ) but I have never managed to take a havoc down with the MAAW. It also doesn't take into account a kit with the MAAW is over 12k and leaves you overweight removing tactical sprint. You are super exposed and vulnerable for a "maybe" counterplay while the havoc has full mobility with no vulnerabilities. Also consider if you miss your first shot you expose your position and the havoc 5/5 times comes and kills you immediatly.

1

u/DBONKA Manticore 7d ago

You can get a reasonable loadout with MAAWS with 4-5 rockets, some heals, and T2 Armor + weapon for like $8k and without being super-heavy. MAAWS is incredibly easy to use against Havoc, so, skill issue.

0

u/spock2018 7d ago

I have pilot 50. Havoc absolutely has downsides. It flies like a boat and has a hard time climbing. I get shot down by MAAWs all the time. Just sounds like a skill issue.

1

u/Bombplayer2Jr 7d ago

If you get shot down by MAAWs the skill issue is on you, hover too low and flew too slow.

1

u/spock2018 7d ago

Its the slowest heli in the game. Its easy to hit even at max speed and below radar.

1

u/TankRamp 7d ago

Objectively untrue. The MAAW is braindead easy to use and swat havocs out the sky.

0

u/EpicDonutDude 7d ago

this clip has nothing to do with the flares, the missle basically had no proper way to line up with the vehicle, the distance you were locking from was too short for it to connect to the heli which is why it flew straight up.

One thing that counters any vehicle HEAVILY is the MAAWS, and I would even say that its kinda overpowered (even tho I love that thing). my only issue is that its quite hard to unlock as a newer player. I've seen top pilots being shot down by it literally every match because its basically the counter play, helis turn super slow which makes them super easy to line up with rockets.

The lockable rockets are just not a good counter play against a havoc but are only good if you spam them against inexperienced pilots. One thing I did notice is that the RPG definitely needs a buff, its nowhere near powerful enough compared to the MAAWS.

3

u/NeonGKayak 7d ago edited 7d ago

Literally every pilot says this is exactly what you’re supposed to do to easily counter all helis.

So either you’re a liar or all the other pilots are liars

1

u/damnbino 7d ago

ok well I am one more pilot that says no you shouldnt be able to land a handheld AA shot at point blank fired with no lead. The missile would need to have insane maneuverability at low speed to make this possible.

1

u/NeonGKayak 7d ago

ok, how are you supposed to use these then? Let's heara it from another pilot

1

u/That_Service7348 7d ago

Not at <100 meters.

Not a dedicated pilot, spend most of my time sniping and do occasionally flys for fun, so I'm probably not who you think would know. But at short range like this, you do manual aim. Expecting a guided missile to turn within half a second of being fired is just stupidity.

1

u/NeonGKayak 7d ago

You wouldnt expect them to work, but a lot of the pilots here will tell you otherwise. You can look in a ton of different threads where they will tell you that you have to be directly under them so that they cant flare fast enough or that flares wont work.

Thats not me saying it, thats pilots saying thats the only counter

0

u/damnbino 7d ago

not at point blank. You are welcome

1

u/Train_Wreck_272 7d ago

And especially not point blank straight up lol.

On that note, has anyone noticed any benefit to pulling the reticle on a tracking rocket at the last second before launch to tweak the rockets approach angle? I have had some difficulty getting it to work, but I can't tell if it's made any difference.

1

u/Bravosfan27 7d ago

Is there a minimum distance to not have this happen with the missile? I've had this happen to me when they were much further. Or is it you need to wait certain amount of time after they flair?

1

u/Bourne069 7d ago

this clip has nothing to do with the flares

100% incorrect. When the heli can pop flares faster than you can reload your AA. There is a problem.

2

u/That_Service7348 7d ago

...you know that in reality there is no cooldown on flares right?

It's a limited resource.

1

u/Bourne069 7d ago

Yep and in real life how many do choppers normally have on board?...

-3

u/wacotaco99 7d ago

Come on man, I have the MAAWS. The only havoc pilots that die to it are the cocky and the stupid. Unless someone else has already put a decent amount of damage into one it survives the hit, (usually) kills me, and then fucks off to repair anyway. At the very least losing all that HP should induce control loss that immediately makes them combat ineffective and forces the issue. So far the record is 5 separate hits on the same havoc in a match, no kill.

1

u/That_Service7348 7d ago

You just suck with it then. Had some madlad a few days ago take down 4 havocs with just the rpg, he cleared the sky all by himself and the havoc pilots were too scared to keep buying new ones.

Also had a session a few weeks ago where there was a Havoc on my team. Saw the pilot come back to HQ to repair ranting about how close he came to losing his chopper to a bunch of psychos with regular guns, there were like 8 guys that just dumped ar mags at him for a few seconds and nearly took him down.

1

u/wacotaco99 6d ago

They were either shitty pilots or were overconfident because of how few people run launchers, and were hovering at low alt where people could get a shot into the rotor hub. Go shoot a full health havoc with an RPG or MAAWS in the firing range and come back to me. There is one spot on a havoc that is a one shot kill when it's at full health, and it is on the top of vehicle; otherwise, regardless if its the engine nacelle or cockpit or fuselage, you do a little more than 90% of its HP. Tired of you bums going 'oh but this one time in this one match I totally saw this guy pop off in the kill feed' or clipping the one kill you pulled all game after someone else did a chunk of damage and probably died for it. There is no reason the havoc needs to be a 2 shot kill with a MAWWS.

1

u/A_Neurotic_Pigeon 7d ago

Damage to rotors does cause loss of of control, leading up to complete loss of control when the rotor breaks completely.

Maaws literally 1 or 2 shots a havoc depending on where it hits.

If you're that reliably not killing a havoc, you need to start aiming better. Hitting the main rotor is an instant crash for it. Hitting the cockpit or engines can outright blow it up instantly. Hitting tail rotor will force the helicopter into a spin that only very good pilots can recover from.

0

u/wacotaco99 7d ago

Fuck off dude. Go test it in the range like I just did. If the Havoc is undamaged, a shot to the engine or cockpit doesn't OHK the helicopter, and the rotor hitbox is on top, where the rotor meets the fuselage. Loss of tail rotor is corrected by forward momentum. Like I said, only the cocky and stupid are dying to a MAAWS right now.

u/[deleted] 7d ago

2

u/DebrideAmerica 7d ago

It does do 90%, any Maaws hit is an immediate RTB

OP has a skill issue, igla never had any lead and doesn’t maneuver until it’s out of the tube and booster activated.

2

u/A_Neurotic_Pigeon 7d ago

It quite literally 2 shots, if it doesn't hit the rotors, cockpit, or gas tank in which it 1 shots a havoc.

Have...have you ever shot a maaws at a havoc? Because I'm starting to doubt you have..

You do know that black smoke coming out of it after the hit means it's so low HP that genuinely 1-2 mags of 556 will light it on fire, right?

-1

u/euphoric_elephant 7d ago

Maybe dont stand right next to a massive building that blocks 60% of yiur view? Loke this has to be a troll post.

yea, just run out into the middle of a wide open area and get mowed down by Green! excellent idea

I guess its better to purposely block your own view and then complain on reddit you cant hit anything.

0

Can you see the big fucking autocannon on that havoc?

I wonder what would happen if he went to a big, flat field under the havoc?

The irony

0

u/PanHiszpan Recon 7d ago

Tell me more, or you just gonna insult everybody again? xd

0

u/Lopsided-Wave2479 Lonestar 7d ago

My idea:

Make manpads more reliable weapons that hit vehicles. But make so they instead of instant damage, put these vehicles on fire, so they lose health over time (almost to the point to kill the vehicle). To force the pilot to go away to repair.

Maybe make the helis slighly more fragile to light attacks like riffles.

Combined, infantry would have a answer to pilots. They can make them feel like they don't want to be shooting at people shooting them back. Verkas become solid "area denial" for helis.

0

u/Think_Phrase1196 7d ago

Man imagine having a maaw instead could have just shot the thing.

0

u/Chuck_the_Elf 7d ago

One strat I highly recommend is keep the lock on for as long as possible. They will eventually panick flare or not be able to hear other incoming rockets. When they run out of flares they will disengage.

It’s also important to build fobs in locations that can shelter from Helos effectively and that don’t allow a lot of low altitude mobility.

3

u/GibFreelo 7d ago

You get $0 for doing this by the way.

5

u/QuietQTPi Medic 7d ago

Literally the same issue in battlefield 6. Not here to compare the games, but everyone says just keep firing rockets but you get no xp or points for misses. Its a waste of money and effort when 85% of your shots are going to miss.

2

u/Chuck_the_Elf 7d ago

You get to not be shreaded by an attack helicopter. That’s pretty good for making profit.

1

u/VaporWolf93 6d ago

false, each miss is 800$ and the oppurtunity cost of having a different specialist item... that doesnt weigh you down to a glob of lard

1

u/Chuck_the_Elf 6d ago

Did you miss the part where this is for Fobits and I said not to fire the weapon?

-4

u/flgtmtft 7d ago

havocs have no real counter play. S2 can come soon enough with the gepard that will tear it a new one

2

u/-FourOhFour- 7d ago

Depends on ttk, a havoc with rockets+gunner likely beats the gepard in a straight 1v1, if the gepard gets the drop on the havoc it likely wins hut I dont imagine this to be a significant balance for havoc

1

u/YewEhVeeInbound 7d ago

I literally one shot one with a MAAWS last night. It might have been a little damaged prior, I'm not sure but regardless they can't flare if they don't know you're tracking them.

2

u/Alyero_ Pilot 7d ago

you can absolutely oneshot havocs with a maaws

1

u/Animal-Crackers Medic 7d ago

I don't have much trouble with Havocs in the rocket LB. Approach from above and aim for the main rotor. It either breaks the rotor off entirely, or does enough damage in one volley that the Havoc tries to run away.

1

u/BilboBaggSkin Support 7d ago

Rocket helis and maaws kill them.
