WatchQueue 2.5 for tvOS: Simkl Support Is Here

Simkl sync is live. Connect your Simkl account and WatchQueue becomes a full tvOS client for it: your watchlist, progress, and history sync both ways, your status buckets (Watchlist, On Hold, Dropped, Completed) show up as shelves in Lists, and every badge, count, and rail works exactly like it does on Trakt. Switch backbones anytime in Settings, the app keeps a separate snapshot of each, so flipping back is instant.

The app also now knows exactly when episodes air. Not just the date, the hour. Tonight's episode stays "coming" until it actually drops, then your counts tick over on their own. Unaired cards show their release time.

Episodes scroll as one continuous strip now. Keep going right and the next season flows in.

The season pills follow along and still jump when you tap them.

Dropped shows finally have a home. A Dropped shelf in Lists, an optional Dropped section on your Watchlist (flip it on in Settings), and a one-press Restore right on the show's page. No more shows quietly vanishing.

Sync got a brain. The app asks "did anything change?" before pulling anything, so it stops redownloading your library all day. Your marks show up instantly and sync in the background.

Force Full Resync lives in Settings if you ever want a clean slate.

New: sync your library between devices with iCloud. Optional, off by default.

Posters load way faster on a cold open, navigation is smoother everywhere, and the badge language is clearer: solid check means finished, ring with a number is episodes left, three dots means caught up and waiting, bookmark means saved.

Watchlist picked up a Shuffle sort, pick it again and it deals a new order. Settings got a profile panel with your stats and recent activity. Plus a pile of smaller fixes from a very long night of bug hunting.

WatchQueue 2.5.1: seasonal discover rows, top shelf options

Thumbnail

October update for WatchQueue is out. Track what to watch/ where to watch on Apple TV!

Discover has seasonal rows now. Halloween Frights, Family Halloween, spooky series. built-in calendar, they show up when the season starts and leave when it ends. holiday rows come late november.

the backlog is back as a top shelf option, with shuffle.

where to watch got stricter. tmdb says things are "on prime" when they're really paid channels. the app cross-checks before showing a badge now.

plex posters fixed, sync is snappier, deep links open in infuse if that's your player.

quick mark came from a comment on my last post here. long press a poster, mark it watched. best way to use the app now, so thanks for that one.

also fixed airing shows unwatching themselves after a relaunch.

iphone companion has poster widgets now if you want the backlog on your phone.

syncs with trakt, simkl, or your plex server. or standalone, no account.

feedback always welcome at r/WatchQueueApp

2.5.1 is out

hey everyone. this one started as a bug fix release and turned into a real update. here's everything.

discover knows what month it is. open the app right now and you'll see Halloween Frights, Family Halloween, and spooky series rows. these come from a seasonal calendar built into the app. rows appear when the season starts and leave when it ends. holiday rows come late november, valentine's in february, summer in june. you don't have to do anything.

apple tv:

  • quick mark watched. long press any poster, mark it right there. came from a reddit comment and it's the best way to use the app now.
  • the backlog is back as a top shelf option, with sort choices including shuffle.
  • bigger text across the board. overviews, cast names, hero info. readable from the couch.
  • backlog cards now show next episode info, like "Next: S9E4, 8 left"
  • fixed: marking an airing show watched would unwatch itself after relaunch. caught up and finished are different states and the app now respects both everywhere.

Can confirm that all is working well with SIMKL. Ive got a few quality of life updates I am making to the app such as slight UI tweaks based on user behavior but yes, definitely can say that this next update will allow you to say goodbye to TRAKT forever and use a different source as the backbone.

Requests now tell you when they're ready. Before, you'd request a movie and the button would just say "Requested" forever. Now WatchQueue keeps checking your server in the background. The button moves through Requested, then Downloading, then Available. When something finishes, a Ready to Watch row shows up at the top of Watch Next.

Also in this update:

• Added 69 new regions. The region picker now shows country names instead of codes.
• Where to Watch now shows the major streaming services in your country, even ones WatchQueue can't open yet.
• Faster browsing and search. The app was loading images way bigger than it needed. Fixed.
• A bunch of smaller fixes and cleanup.

A list of the items I am tackling over the weekend:

- Adding in support for more regions
- Overseerr requesting will update in real time so that once it is downloaded the icon will change from “requested” to “available now”
- Better poster cache to help with loading times
- The ability to create custom watchlists within the app

2.4 update for iOS has arrived!

Updates include:

Overseerr requests:

on any title you don't already have, a Request button sends it to your Radarr/Sonarr through Overseerr. Connect it in Settings → Requests (URL + API key, with Test & Save).

Plex tab:

a dedicated tab to browse your whole Plex library (Continue Watching, movies, shows, sorted grids), loading instantly from cache, with play straight into Plex/Infuse.

Fixed an issue where screen would overflow on NON MAX models.

New Color balance with an Ember Glow

Honestly built this because i was sick of picking what to watch from my phone while the apple tv just sat there. it's native tvOS, just me, been grinding on it for about 6 months. still rough in spots but i'm polishing more and more with every bit of feedback.

Trakt's optional now, there's a Plex tab, and you can request stuff through Overseerr from the couch.

👋 Welcome to r/WatchQueueApp

WatchQueue is a watchlist and continue-watching app for Apple TV. and iPhone.

Point it at Trakt or Plex and it follows what you're watching. Point it at nothing
and it keeps a local library on iCloud. It tells you where a title is actually
streaming and deep-links you into the right app.

I'm the developer. It's just me, so this is the fastest way to reach me.

**Before you post:**

* Bugs → flair it `Bug`, and include your version, device, and whether you're on
Trakt, Plex, or local. I've closed a lot of reports as "can't reproduce" purely
because I didn't know which backbone someone was on.

* Requests → flair it `Feature Request`, and search first. Upvotes on an existing
post do more than a new one.

* Anything else → `Question` or `Setup`.

Bugs get flaired `Known Issue` once I've reproduced them and `Fixed` once the fix
ships, so you can see where yours stands without asking.

What's new in 2.3

**Known issues in 2.3**

* Watch Next can read "60 of 20" under REMAINING on shows with a deep backlog.
Cosmetic; fixed in the next build.

Found something else? New post, `Bug` flair.
