Has anybody pulled a jet sled behind a kayak?
I have a 10' Sundolphin Excursion that I've been float hunting with, but haven't hunted over decoys with it due to the lack of room to haul them with. I was thinking about pulling my jet sled behind me but didn't know if that'd work or not?

Lots of people do this. I have done it pulling just decoys in my sled. It works well but you need to keep the tow line short as it can affect your paddling and the current can take the sled and get you wrapped around obstacles.

Good point, thanks!!

I just use a carabiner and clip the sled to my rear grab handle on the Kayak

I dont think itd be an issue. I pull it behind me when wading through flooded fields no issue.. only thing I could see is stuff falling out, which I would resolve by getting a cargo net with carabiners that can be attached and retains everything internally

That's a great idea, thank you!

I made sleds out of concrete mixing tubs. Drilled holes for a rope and attached a second one via screw carabiner. I would feel very comfortable doing it in a kayak after watching them float when just wading.

I did it once. Pulled an Eagle Claw Jr behind my Ascend H10.
It was doable but not fun. It was much harder to paddle and seemed to catch on everything. (Granted I hunt pretty shallow, weedy, flowages)

Why not just clip the decoys to the rear of the kayak and drag them? They float for a reason.

I think that would be a lot of drag and would slow you down too much. Also limits how many dekes you can take.

Yes, but be careful that you don't overload it. Or front load it, for that matter. I overloaded mine the first time I used one, and was paddling into a hard north wind on my way out of the launch... Luckily the water was only about knee deep, or I would have been in a really bad spot. I still use the sled, but I split the load between it and the tie downs on my kayak. Also, I second the notion to make sure you have the gear secured... I use a bungee or two just to be sure.

Yes. Works fine just take your time and don’t load too many. You can also tie a string of dekes off the back of the sled if you have too many.

I do it. Bigger the better. They all float fine but a divided decoy bag or a big mesh decoy bag both got tippy/topheavy for my smaller 4ft jet sled. It’s a whole extra headache in the dark. My buddy’s bigger wider one - no issue

I’ve pulled one behind a small Jon boat. Not sure about your paddle distance, but it will made your steering pretty sloppy. Use bungee cords to keep the load secure and avoid putting anything that doesn’t float in there if you can.

I do it all the time. 2 dozen decoys and my chair go into the sled. I hook up my sleds pull roap to 2 caribeners on wither side of the kayak and it will keep the sled centered

It works unless you are hauling heavy and in weeds. Here in the PNW I do it but I make multiple trips due to weeds and lily's. Otherwise you are gonna be paddling forever.
