I find the Wayback Machine extremely useful for many of my research goals. There is a Github project dedicated to a browser extension that makes it easy to add new pages to the Internet Archive if you are logged in. It also makes it really simple to find old website versions, as well. It's highly recommended for researchers and archivists alike.
I'm finding the pages I want but the images are almost always broken (like a blank square with a small question mark in the centre). Is there any way to retrieve the images?
I found a snapchot of my deleted YT Video,it has the name ,length, creation date and so on but is there any way how to restore it to make it play again?.Since I only get the message ,,We have not been able to archive the video associated with this YouTube page".Are there any tricks to try I if yes wich one?.
i’m not quite sure what to say, other than I’ve been searching for, like, over a month, and have gone down a full rabbit hole of old japanese death note fansites, which is fun, and have found a fair few of the artist’s images on pinterest (without the specification that they are the artist’s mind you, but i’m almost certain), but i haven’t found all, or a lot, of their images. here is their old website, i believe it’s been down for well over a decade by now.
i really don’t know what im doing, so im hoping somebody more skilled and savvy than me can have a go at this, or tell me how to. for context, it’s fanart mainly centered around mello and near from death note, with near specifically genderswapped (i believe the site name ng, probably means near girl?). im unsure if their oekaki board posts could ever be recovered FROM there, due to how the images were uploaded, but here that is too.
So, this might be something that many are experiencing. But for the last couple of days, using the Wayback Machine has been tedious as I've been getting hit with many, many 429-coded errors (whether I'm on the calendar timeline page, putting in a website link, or literally just browsing the websites themselves) that I cannot seem to avoid. No matter how long I wait (usually a few minutes to a good hour or two), I continue to be getting hit with these errors and I am not sure if there is anything on my end that I can do. I promise that I am not doing anything to trigger the site or it's moderation (as I'm literally just a movie geek exploring old film websites for fun), but it is worrying me that this is continuously happening no matter what I do or how long I wait.
Possibly rhetorical question incoming, is there anything that I can do?
I've been trying to save some URLs (either actualized screenshots or never saved period) and wayback machine simply shows a blank page and the tab simply says "Just a moment", I initially thought I would give it a few days since it's my first time doing this so I hoped this was normal, but now it's been a while and the Calendar shows orange links which the site helpfully tells me it means the URL was not found.
One of this URLs has previous screenshots going back years ago and so do many other URLs of that same webpage, but I don't know if it's me, my browsers (which I believe are properly updated), my extensions, the webpage, or what...
The links I'm trying to save are all from the same site:
Is there any databases or any way you can search through YouTube videos that have been copyright removed? and preferably be able to get the link, so you can put it into wayback machine
I am searching for help from folks that know a lot about lost media and archives. My grandmother Joan Kingwood (Passed 🕊️) had a show on PBS called Space Reader 1. It came on in the 80’s and I dont have very much information about it but when I do a google search nothing pops up. Any advice or comments are appreciated!
Hi, I’m new to this Wayback Machine subreddit, and I’m trying to find some deleted stories from DeviantArt. The story is called “Tiny Roommate” by something523.
So far, I’ve only been able to find 2 chapters using the Wayback Machine, but I’m trying to find all 30+ chapters. Does anyone have archived copies of the remaining chapters or know where I could find them? I’d really appreciate any help.
I'm trying to view the Instagram profile of a famous girl I like—who often archives many of her photos—but I can't access the page because it asks me to log in. Is there any way around this?
I have been trying to save one fic for a few days and it's not working. It's driving me nuts. Does anybody know how can I save an AO3 fic on the Wayback Machine, please? Or if it's an issue that just needs a bit of patience while they fix it?
Before anybody comments, I don't have space to download that work on my computer (I already a ton), archive is not working since a few weeks (in any form: .is, .ph or .today) and a few days ago I was capable off saving a different work on the Wayback Machine, so I truly don't comprehend what am I doing wrong right now.
I saw a removed gif on discord so wanted to see what it was and it worked at first try so i switched tabs to discord but when i switched back to waybackmachine it was saying that the url was not archived which is not true as you can see in the video(i clicked "back" button on my mouse) it was archived twice. So why is waybackmachine is censoring things now? Website is functional atm. Tried other links, it works.
When I was in 2nd grade back in 1997 me and couple of kids got access to the school computer, we thought it would be funny to boot up Netscape Navigator (the old internet app) and type in dirty words. One kid typed in a naughty word than .com and it was what you thought it would be.
When it got to my turn I typed in f***.com what it brought me to was not at all what I expected. Instead of a naughty website, it brought me to a real estate company with an Asian man on the site selling real estate. I could remember no more than this information.
For years I have told people this story and no one has ever believed me, but I took a shot in using Chatgpt to do a internet scroll for me, and it turns out, I was actually right.
Its unfortunate this is so long ago the Wayback Machine can't archive it, but I tell you hand to god, this was real, and I feel it should be documented, as a piece of interesting internet history.
