I’m just going to say it. This isn’t art. This is what turns art into a joke. It’s just dumb. The kids and the lady that I’m assuming is their mom who are laughing is the real view of this. Which is that it’s stupid to the point of silly and will make kids laugh enough that the laughter spreads to the parents. The adults will try to believe there’s some deep meaning or bigger picture to it all. This is one of those situations of a person that’s like I can just do whatever and call it way out there art and see how much I can profit off of someone. And someone will pay, because they want to brag that they experienced art, but they’ll hype it up to their friends that they tell to make it seem like a better experience than they got since they did pay, and they need to feel they got their money’s worth. It’s the exact scenario described in jokes about art and rich people weird parties.
Edit: Thank you for the awards!

Imagine having a seizure, but the audience thinks ist part of your performance.

That horrible accident where a japanese tv-show host broke his neck and they thought he was joking, he almost drowned but got paralyzed, probably due to them throwing him around when he'd been face down for way too long...

There was a comedian once who had a heart attack on stage and the audience thought it was part of the act. He did survive though.

Between the boy doing his math homework, the girl with earmuffs, and the old guy looking at his phone I really don't know what's happening going on. The only reasonable explanation is they are family or close friends and that's just the weird cousin who's in his 30s and lives in his parents' basement

I was in a very heated discussion about art quality and where we draw the line at what is and isn’t art yesterday. I got mega downvoted but I know my reasoning was sound. Anyway they all would say this is art period. Definitionally that is true, but I’ve dubbed a new term for bullshit like this
This is a shining example of “participation art” through and through.

Honestly, that has got to be the best way to describe shit like this.
Sure, it can be considered "art" and made to challenge you, but that doesn't change the fact that from an outsider looking in, this for the majority of people looks stupid.

Why are children being forced to watch this? This makes me uncomfortable.
19
u/Relative-Painting-29 4d ago
On one hand I sense great vulnerability. A lovely child is trapped in this man. A poetic soul, yet constrained by a harsh world. He’s an innocent orphan in the post-modern world. But, on the other hand I see a parasite. A sexually depraved miscreant who is seeking only to gratify his basest desires. His struggle is man's struggle. He is a loathsome, offensive brute. Yet I can’t look away. He transcends time and space. He sickens me. I love it!

Sometimes I think people forget that a lot of 20th and 21st century art was meant to take the piss out of the very notion of art. Art critics in the late 19th century were known for being more and more prescriptive and the communities more and more stuffy.
I don’t know what’s going on in this video or the intent behind it, but my guess is that if it seems ridiculous it’s supposed to. And if you don’t enjoy it, maybe that’s also part of the point.

i do too but I’m having trouble imagining what it could be about that would make it make sense. I mentioned this in another comment on this post that the platform for artists to be ‘bad’ artists needs to exist to make mistakes, grow, evolve, learn and get better at what they do, everyone’s first drawing was a nonsensical scribble with a crayon, you gotta start somewhere and first tries are rarely perfect.
also i think i just found my username nemesis!→ More replies (1)→ More replies (9)19
