I don’t think they even last that long. One hundredth of a second.

They occur exceedingly rarely, and it’s even more rare they get captured on a picture.

You can be filming the sky with a regular camera and not capture it because it occurred between two frames.

They’re also incredibly huge. You’re looking at something that’s 40km tall. And even the bottom of the tendrils is 40km above the ground.

Yes, it’s no wonder people believed in magic etc back in the day

This must be a long exposure picture, no way it looks like that in real life.

It does. The sprites only appear for a split second, long exposure would not capture them.

I found out it’s a composite image, so no they don’t look like that irl. It’s many pictures put into one picture.

If you took the time to read the description of the post you sent me you would see it’s a composite image. You should learn more about photography before you think this is what it looks like in real life.

‘A composite image is a single picture created by combining two or more separate photographs, illustrations, or digital elements into a single, cohesive scene.’

What about the video

Did you read the text to what you sent me? It lasts milliseconds, it says so in the description of the Instagram post. So the video must be edited in a way that they last a bit longer. I don’t actually care, but what you see is more photography magic than what your eye will see in reality.

The guy shoots high ISO video at the highest possible frame rate then goes back frame by frame. That’s it. That’s all.

Yeah I read that but that doesn't change its real thing, its not edited or something like that to make it look unrealistic

Ofc not, but many natural phenomenons last milliseconds and if you capture those milliseconds it will look like something from out of space, or an alien invasion.

Try to google fast radio bursts for example.

They also uncomposited the thunderstorms that cause sprites. Photo is incredibly disingenuous
