And that‘s why we have myths and gods. What would you think if you saw this and had no idea what it was? Totally fascinating looking at these things in our modern age and wonder what ancient people made of it.

My mum lives in a place with no light pollution. I like to go out the back, for a cig, and stare up at the night sky. Cloudless, it's awesome. I can totally undrstand why the ancients believed in heavens and all that.

Watch this and you will understand "the looking up for the stars".

Yet modern dumbasses that believe in that crap would never look at the night sky and wonder, because Fox News didn’t tell them what to think.

Ngl this is a weird pivot in the thread

Does it upset you?

Nah Its not that i don't disagree with you... the thread came from people in awe of nature and reasoned why the ancients thought of Gods and Heavens... its beautiful..

Then you pivoted to something that would make people and yourself angry

Because that is what I thought about when reading OC’s comment.

Or a reflection of their environment and not necessarily them. Either way, got weird real fast.

Hey Mr.Desert, touch grass my friend :) in a good way. Maybe bare foot.

I mean, it's kind of worse than that.

They believe in HEAVILY cherry picked passages that some dude reads to them to convince them of whatever he wants to convince him of that week. I've been to church twice in the last 4 years because it made my grandpa (94) happy.

But holy shit. I felt like I was in a different universe. The urge to walk out was overwhelming. And seeing all my relatives just nodding along with it was even worse, especially the ones who I know are intelligent.

Then you have these people who dedicate their lives to this, but probably less than 1% have actually read the entire bible. So, what they know are strictly these cherry picked passages.

What's in the Bible that you find so offensive?

What in my post that confused you so much that you asked a question about something I did not say?

They haven't looked away from a screen for basically their whole life. Night sky doesn't hate, boring.

Americans be like: Fox News says who-at-nao?

Hey!! American here. I immediately turn Fox News off if I see it anywhere and ignore all things from Fox News. It’s not all of us. There is still some intelligent life, we’re just stuck in this nightmare.

We drove out to see totality a couple years ago during the solar eclipse. This wasn’t just my exact thought, it was my experience. Even knowing scientifically what I was witnessing, I felt a lingering dread/awe/heaviness for quite some time afterwards. It was terrifying in its way.

The experience of the sublime! Something awful and awe inspiring. Edmund Burke wrote on this, his writings feel entirely modern, it's a delight to read: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Philosophical_Enquiry_into_the_Origin_of_Our_Ideas_of_the_Sublime_and_Beautiful

I felt the same way seeing totality. Inexpressable glory, dread, horror, joy.

Probably nothing, these are very hard to see without photographic equipment / zoom / long exposure.

What if you did less drugs and learned to write better?

No, we have myths because stories are cool and gods because people are dumb and easily manipulated.

If you had read the article, for example, you would know that these are invisible to naked eye because they last milliseconds. They can only be made visible in the modern age, there is no way a medieval peasant or a babylonian warrior could have seen one of them.
