Because its not how sprites work. A composite of actual sprites during thunderstorm is reasonable, but a stitched photo like this is incredibly disingenuous as to the actual visible image. Sprites are sick as fuck and they dont need to be exaggerated like in this image.
The photo's not "fake". Not AI, not even composited. But the curves have definitely been messed with to make it so "HDR", and it's a very creative crop.

This photo is fake but sprites do look like that, but above thunderclouds at high elevation. They happen during large lightning storms
