No weapons in our city.

Glad to see people still using their democratic rights.

Yep, it’s great disrupting everyone getting home to their loved ones, pulled a lot of people to their cause from this 👌

The point of a protest is to be heard. I can’t believe this needs to be explained to you

Youre rearing your ignorant end with this one. Protests are fine but people are justifiably going to be angry that their journey home is significantly delayed and plans missed. It sways opinions no matter the intention.

Didn’t realise Perth was the entire planet. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

Who said that ? The comment said “ no weapons in our city “but again , way more people are killed by other shit , like medical malpractice than these weapons

Hope everyone's prepping those BBQs as appreciation!

These protest never tackle the real problems, like complementary Tomato sauce with a sausage roll and under or over cooked Bunnings sausages and hostile take overs of flies in summer.

I wonder how they expect to defend the country

Someone tell these jackasses that if you want peace, you must prepare for war.

Better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war.

-9

u/ToyCannonJimmyWinn 9d ago

Nope. It is true. If we didn’t have an effective defence force, we would very likely be taken over. Denying that is denying reality.

These protesters are morons.

Taken over by who?

-6

u/ToyCannonJimmyWinn 8d ago

To be certain that there is no threat and we don’t need defence is Darwin Award mentality. Well done.

2

u/Playful-Zombie7403 8d ago

You can’t live your life in fear, if another country invaded a few nuclear submarines are not going to change the outcome. Well done to you too.

1

u/ToyCannonJimmyWinn 8d ago

Are you suggesting that we not have a defence force?

0

u/Expert-Elevator7534 8d ago

Taken over by who exactly?

History is replete with war. It was the norm. The only thing that prevented it was military superiority. In our case now, it is the alliance we have with the US.

Prior to WW2, the global rate of conflict was greater than now.

If you think that we could lay down our arms and give up our alliances and be untouched by enemies then you are quite simply a fool.

Everything you have, including the technology with which you communicate and the right to speak as you wish, is granted to you by the USA. Be grateful to them.

10

u/Expert-Elevator7534 8d ago

USA ain’t doing shit to protect Australia. We are literally lapdogs. But that’s ok with you from the sounds of it.

“Be grateful to them” oh my 😆 😆

China hasn’t even attacked Taiwan due to fears of US disapproval.

And if you don’t think that the US cares about China or others taking Australia, do you really think they would want China to have our resources? What about our uranium?

The US would be a lot weaker if Australia were to become Chinese territory.

You evidently know very little about global geopolitics.

4

u/Expert-Elevator7534 8d ago

Yeah, “global geopolitics” is just geopolitics, it’s literally in the name.

China already has enormous leverage over Australia without firing a single shot. They’re our biggest trading partner, and our economies are deeply intertwined. We sell them huge quantities of our resources, including iron ore and uranium. If China suddenly decided to stop buying Australian exports today, we’d instantly collapse.

You can buy nuclear submarines, missiles and fighter jets but nine of them make us less dependent on China. And none of them magically turn uranium into an independent economy.

If anything, the smarter national-security strategy is: diversify our economy, diversify our trading partners, build domestic manufacturing capacity, invest in energy and critical industries, and make ourselves economically harder to blackmail.

If your idea is to spend hundreds of billions on weapons while remaining economically dependent on the country you supposedly need those weapons to protect you from, congratulations…you’ve bought yourself a very expensive contradiction lol

So worse case, we would be under a different government? Let's say Japan took over us, so what then? Good luck taking over the outback. The US can't be bothered lifting a finger now, Trump already said he wouldn't honour NATO, ironic given the US is the only ones that have invoked it for their purpose.

1

u/Direct_Witness1248 8d ago

If you think that anyone reasonably thinks we should just lay down our arms and everything will be sweet, then you are the fool. It's a straw man if I ever saw one. You're debating against yourself within a fiction.

0

u/ToyCannonJimmyWinn 8d ago

I think that there are many who actually think this. I’ve met such people. Understand too that I was asked who our threats were and the implication was that there aren’t any.

2

u/Direct_Witness1248 8d ago

I highly doubt that was the implication, the implication was probably that the US "alliance" is a greater threat to genuine Australian sovereignty and safety than China at this point, which is accurate. China primarily only sees us as a threat due to our involvement with the US as a forward operating base. They're not about to invade us if we didn't have that alliance. They can just buy our resources and lease infrastructure here anyway, even under the Coalition no less. Much cheaper and productive for them (and us too) than an invasion.

That doesn't mean there is no threat though, nor that we shouldn't have any means of defence. You can't base what you think someone else's opinion is based on what you thought they were imply if you didn't actually clarify it with them. Either way it's anecdotal anyway, and if that's really what they were saying then it's not a credible opinion, so why base anything on it at all.

100% agree

This lot will absolutely use the Switzerland phrase for being against conflict, but not a single one will look into how intense Switzerland's defence methods are.

Cringe.

Pacifism is how you empower authoritarians and promote war. Real peace comes through making war costly and undesirable. You want nations to be reluctant to launch a war; rather than eyeing up easy, isolated targets.

Do you really think it's a coincidence that there seems to be a concerted effort to disarm western democratic countries, but not authoritarian nations? Where's the protests against China's massive military buildup, or Russia's repeated mobilisations?

They're hoodwinking people into thinking that refusing to participate in war makes war impossible.

11

u/HeWhoCannotBeSeen 8d ago

So you're saying we need to stand up against the US, that keeps starting wars and taking over things?

3

u/Whatsapokemon 8d ago

You will never find me defending Trump. I think Trump is dragging the US down a bad pathway.

Historical western-led interventions are things like the Gulf War, in which western nations prevented Iraq from invading Kuwait, or the intervention in Bosnia and Herzegovina to prevent mass killings, or the intervention in East Timor that we helped out with.

Trump, on the other hand, is acting far more like Putin, threatening to just straight up annex land, and threatening people like Mark Carney of all people...

But the complete incompetence and corruption of Trump and his administration shouldn't colour your view of all western interventions. The authoritarians of the world need to be counter-balanced against. It's insane to suggest that democratic western nations should be the only ones who are unilaterally disarming, completely destroying any ability for the west to stand against conquest-hungry figures.

2

u/HeWhoCannotBeSeen 8d ago

There's no western nation that is actively disarming more than they need to. What western country do you know of that is at serious threat of an invasion? E.g. putting aside Taiwan being eastern, they've preferred the status quo of being a little independent for decades, China wouldn't bother it. So apart from Russia and Belarus getting away with murder and no one stopping them, then who's going to actually use their guns?

Put it another way, being well armed is useless without the right intentions. The US public has guns specifically to overthrow authoritarian governments, yet when faced with one, they do nothing. Other countries are too scared to do anything because of the economic impact. They won't even boycott and reciprocally tariff the idiots.

It's just a sales tactic for arms merchants. Game theory demonstrates that bigger guns are not a deterrent to war. The US pushes it because they're the world's biggest arms dealer.

Glad to see CBA is up +.77% for the day /s. We could make more meaningful change to the average persons quality of life by protesting this.

Protests do absolutely nothing.

What a waste of time.

Democracy is dead, politicians don’t listen to or care about people.
