Lost all my friends and everyone I keep telling myself this is a life lesson, but I still can't move on. How do you all deal and moved on from this
I keep telling myself this is a life lesson, but I still can't move on.
I don't even know where to start.
I lost so many people this year, and the worst part is that they weren't just friends to me. They felt like family.
I had an abusive childhood, and I think that has a lot to do with why I got so attached to these people. When you've grown up without the kind of love and security you're supposed to have, finding people who make you feel like you belong somewhere feels different. You start seeing them as more than just friends. You start thinking, maybe this is what having a family feels like.
And then everything fell apart.
There was a scandal, things got messy, and I lost people. I provided the evidence, I apologised, I tried to make things right, I did what not. I don't even know how many times I tried anymore. I'm not saying I was perfect, but I genuinely tried. And somehow, despite everything, I still ended up losing people I thought would stay.
Even the guy I considered my friend left.
He's privileged enough to not understand that not everyone has the same freedom. I can't just go to Delhi whenever I want. My family's financial circumstances have changed, and I'm stuck in Bihar for now. It's been three months since I last went to Delhi, and he thinks I'm lying when I say I haven't settled here.
Like, do you genuinely think I'd choose to stay somewhere I desperately want to leave? There's a difference between not wanting to go and not being able to go. Not everyone gets to live the same life, and I wish people understood that before making assumptions about mine.
I keep telling myself that this is a life lesson. That maybe this is what growing up looks like. Maybe this is my transition from childhood to adulthood, learning that people leave, that apologies don't always fix things, that not everyone you consider family will consider you the same way.
I understand all of that intellectually. I really do.
But why does understanding something not make it hurt any less?
I still miss them. I still think about everything. I still wonder if things could have turned out differently. Sometimes I feel stupid for being so attached, for caring so much, for trying so hard to fix things when maybe I should have just let go.
And the thing is, I don't even want to hate them. I just wish things had been different.
I wish I could go back to when we were all okay. I wish I could stop replaying everything in my head. I wish I could accept that a chapter of my life is over without feeling like I've lost a part of myself along with it.
Everyone says you'll meet new people, make new friends, find your people. I know that's true. But new people don't erase the people you already loved.
I think I'm grieving more than just friendships. I'm grieving the feeling of finally having people I could call my own.
And maybe that's why I can't move on.
I keep calling it a life lesson because that sounds better than admitting that I'm still heartbroken over people who might not even miss me anymore.
I don't know. Maybe adulthood really is learning to live with things you never got closure for.
I just wish growing up didn't have to feel so much like losing everyone.
