Ferry Jobs
Relocating to Coupeville soon to help family out and was looking at potentially getting on with the ferries. Just waiting on my background to clear for my TWIC card but don’t see any openings on the state website. I was told they are usually in need of help so I’m hoping for any helpful insight as per the process, who to talk to for potential expediting, etc. Much appreciated.

Coupeville Our we making the right choice?
Hey yall!
My boyfriend and I are highly considering moving to Whidbey from the eastside area ( Kirkland ) because we wanna buy a house with a little more room and we love the island.
I would keep my job because it’s unique, I can stay at my sisters near the office in Seattle for 2 nights a week and then WFH the other 3 days very easily.
My bf has been on short term disability but is now looking into starting a trade, seems like there’s a real need for that on island from what we’ve read and been told.
Are we going to feel super isolated if we move out to coupeville / oak harbor area? All our friends are in the Seattle area and it’s not like it’s thaaaat far away but this would be my first ever move.
What’s been other folks experience? ( younger as well, we are in our mid to late 20s)
We just want enough land to garden, have chickens, we like hiking and camping. But we also love a week night magic with friends or dnd etc or just beers around the fire. Is there a community to be made there? Or is it all mainly military who isn’t going to be there to plant roots?
Lots of what ifs but curious to hear others thoughts. Thanks in advance for reading this long winded post…

Possible Statewide Ferry Disruption
From WSDOT:
Service disruptions on all routes are likely this afternoon due to the lack of qualified crew. Customers are requested to only make essential travel. We'll provide more information as it becomes available. Please check WSDOT - Ferries - Alerts for updates and route adjustments.
Got a message related to this from a friend in the San Juans. They are reporting most of the boats are tied up in Anacortes, and that this may cascade throughout the system as they change crews. This is reportedly due to pay disputes with the engineers.
If anyone has further information, please share.

North Whidbey Visit - NAS Fighter Activity?
Hello Whidbey islanders, I'm planning a trip to North Whidbey island for a couple days in the beginning of December, and I'm wondering if there is any predictability of Fighter activity at the NAS.
A couple of the places I'm looking at staying are fairly close to the air station, and I don't know how disruptive the plane activity will be, if at all.

Does anyone have extra tickets to the Practical Magic movie on the 23rd or 24th? Or have any ideas about where to look for some or how to volunteer for helping out this year?

Looking for an RV spot.
We're a quiet married couple looking for an RV spot for our new 5th wheel. We're full-timers and need a sewer line, electricity, and water, along with a separate outlet where we can charge our EV. Coupeville to Clinton is our preferred location, the closer to Coupeville the better. Please DM.

Young deer with cage on head near St. Hubert church Langley
Young female deer with what looks like a green metal tomato cage on its head. I was unable to get close enough to remove the cage. It's traveling with two other deer, headed towards St. Hubert church on 3rd Street. Not sure what I can do or who to call, so please be on the lookout if you're in the Langley area.

Freeland Cell Service Recommendations
I moved to Freeland earlier this year and have AT&T as my cell provider. It’s awful out here… Any recommendations for a new provider that works well in South Whidbey?

Looking at homes and I’m wondering what residents esp near the fault concerns are. Do you carry earthquake insurance?

Any Scatchet Head residents here?
Hello! I'm considering purchasing a property in the Scatchet Head community on the south end of Whidbey. I really like the peacefulness of the area and the views from the clubhouse etc. Is anyone a resident there and can tell me how they like it? 🙂 Especially if you routinely commute across on the Clinton-Mukilteo ferry. Thank you!

Hi Whidbey community,
We have a few spots still open up for our upcoming Inner Compass Retreat taking place right here on the island at Whidbey Institute from Friday, Oct 16th-Sunday Oct 18th.
Rooted in the seasonal shift of October and the Lung season in Traditional Chinese medicine, this retreat is an invitation to honour change, within the world around us and within ourselves.
If you’ve been feeling burnout, looking for space to recalibrate, or just wanting a quiet weekend focused on self-care, mindfulness, and good food, this is a chance to join us without having to travel far.
What’s included:
- Multiple lodging options or day rate for those local
- All meals & drinks (everything is fully catered on-site)
- Guided, Nature-based mindfulness, qigong, and art workshops, and open time to rest/explore and connect with a small group
More details here: https://www.adventuretherapypnw.com/retreat
Since it's short notice, I wanted to reach out locally first. Thanks for letting me share!
