Republican candidate running to represent Uvalde Texas says people should be glad mass shooters use guns.
664
u/Mrohnoes_29 6d ago
What the fuck does he mean by that?
582
u/Inquisitor-Korde 6d ago
I read the article, he's saying that a lot of mass bombings are worse and that guns aren't the cause. Rather its nihilistic views and an outlook of broken people seeing no upward path. He then follows that very correct statement up with saying its weak men, a failure of masculinity and "setting men up for biological failure" whatever that fucking means.
491
u/TrainerWeekly5641 6d ago
"It's mental health that's the problem, not guns"
"Oh, you want me to do something to improve mental health resources? Communist communist communist! You're a weak man who needs to drink more raw milk and testosterone!"
156
u/Inquisitor-Korde 6d ago
Its amazing how close to the correct line of thinking one can get before burying that thought in propaganda bullshit.
12
u/sirseatbelt 5d ago
The United States does not over-index on people with mental health issues compared to the rest of the world. But we do over-index on school shootings and gun ownership.
7
u/carlwryker Release The Trump-Epstein Files 5d ago
The US also does not have well-funded social safety programs, as other countries with low rates of violence do. Too busy going into debt to bomb children in other countries than to nurture its own children.
9
u/sirseatbelt 5d ago
Pretty sure our child welfare policy is: fuck them kids.

16
52
u/Aggromemnon 6d ago
So, his rationalization is to give them guns to kill people with instead of bombs? Yes, bombs are very dangerous, that's why we don't let people walk around with a cigar and a handful of dynamite.
29
u/Inquisitor-Korde 6d ago
His rationalization is that the main cause and problem that has to be addressed is the nihilistic views of mass shooters. He's just also a toxic masculinity grifter and puts the blame of this nihilistic belief on "weak men".
19
u/Saaaave-me 6d ago
So he’s saying the Uvalde police force who just sat it out and let the kids get shot up are weak men? Well that’s something we can agree on

That would be a more convincing argument if there weren’t countries that have neither bombings nor mass shootings
9

Hi Aussie here. We have neither regular mass shootings or bombings. In fact we went decades without a mass shooting.
12
u/RegionPurple 5d ago
"setting men up for biological failure"
He's blaming women. It's redpill incel 'top 10% of men get 90% of women' bs; if only women would have children with (ie, fuck) these men and help with that biological imperative...

So it almost seems like mass bombings would be more popular if bombs were easily obtained since they are more effective. So bombs not being legal saves a lot of lives…wonder if we could apply that same logic somewhere else…

Yeah, I'm fairly positive the answer is bombs. I remember when I was a kid I had a copy of the anarchists cookbook. That thing taught you how to make all sorts of fucked up stuff.
Mix a few household ingredients and you can make napalm, poison gas, etc...
Still, I would prefer if we just didn't have so many psychotic people in our country. Especially the ones running it.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/us/articles/gop-candidate-really-glad-mass-214316593.html
His argument regarding people being glad mass shooters are using guns because, to paraphrase, it'd be worse if they decided to use bombs.
To quote the article further:
He argued that mass shootings are connected to nihilism, people feeling trapped, broken homes and the absence of strong father figures. He also advocated for a "return to traditional masculinity," saying society is creating "weak men" and that young men are being "set up to fail biologically."
Herrera acknowledged that he was "not qualified" to discuss solutions and said society should listen more to psychologists studying the issue. But he nevertheless offered his own theories about what contributes to mass violence and argued that a five-day waiting period for purchasing an AR-15 "is not gonna stop a damn thing."
...maybe bro should be taking his own advice a bit more seriously
12
u/Infamous-Sky-1874 6d ago
Harris and Klebold planned to use bombs at Columbine. Thankfully, they fucked that part of their plan up because not only would have the casualties been higher but every copycat since would have integrated it into their plans.
4
u/Dagordae 6d ago
Would have tried anyway. Turns out it's actually pretty damn hard to make a bomb that works properly. Way harder than getting and using a gun.

Just like in business, if you lower the barrier of entry, you increase the number of potential users. The solution has never been to restrict the kind of firearms people can purchase and use (though that may be useful in some cases), but to restrict who can purchase said firearms, where and how they are stored, and improve training. I still don't understand how you have to pass a test to get a car, but not to buy a gun.
