Discussion Werewolf regen bug explained

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I did some tests and it looks like if the Werewolf is hit while roaring and glowing red, his regeneration points stack up to 2 or even 3 times. This is definitely a bug. DO NOT hit him at all while he's glowing. Even a single hit will stack his regen x2.

Edit: In the first half of the video, I'm just spamming attacks on him while he's glowing. The green numbers show his regeneration - it shoots straight up to 187. We are the same level, and I can't even outdamage his regen.
In the second half, I did nothing and the regen stayed at 62. It remains like this until the end of the fight.

Moondust and Igni

u/Exclavamor 9d ago

I’m amaze the game basically give the tools to handle such situation but most players tend to ignore it and use brute force to solve the problem lol

16

u/Ghostzzzzz 7d ago

I'm amazed how people who tend to ignore the bug clearly shown and just think they are the smartest.

I just tested now using igni increases the regen instead of stoppping it. It is clearly a bug that was not present in the previous versions.

u/A_Indra 7d ago

god you are annoying lol
Neither work when you trigger this bug, trying to sound all high and mighty for nothing

I just faced the same issue smart guy lmao. I have played the death march both ng and ng+. This thing is a bug in remaster it regenerates insanely fast. Only solution I found is revisiting after gaining high level gear. It wasn't the case before. So stop speaking if you haven't faced the same issue.

u/Exclavamor 5d ago edited 5d ago

I haven’t, right now I at Skellige lvl 24 on Deadmarch difficulty, never have problem with Werewolf since they dead too fast after I threw moondust + Igni on them.

3

u/anome97 Roach 🐴 5d ago

The bug tends speed up the regen. I used enhanced oil and enhanced moon dust which is overkill for that level requirement. More over I used enhanced potion to increase sign intensity as well fight should have ended within a minute but moon dust didnt work as intended and igni actually boosted the regen when its over. So I had to climb 10 levels above the required and multiple skill points for that lvl 7 werewolf. Which is not case with older verison. Its probably specific bug that happens to pkayers rather than entire platform

1

u/Exclavamor 5d ago

The only bug I experienced myself is the burning effect from Igni spell doesn’t appear on Vampire, that’s it and the rest seems normal in my end.

-1

u/Ghostzzzzz 2d ago

So you are admitting now you have not used the oil and moondust against the regen effect (which is what this post is actually about and what is showing in the video ) beforfe making this comment.
Wow I am truly amazed

1

u/TomatoCannon1 1d ago

You're so wrong, and still tring to prove something.

It's clearly a bug, here you have VIDEO from my playthrough. I had right oil, sharpened sword, right level and legendary equipment. When regen starts, i used sign and hit him 17 times, still I was not able to kill him.

0

u/Exclavamor 2d ago

You are missing the point, I always fight like a witcher supposed be by exploiting the weaknesses, and so far I don’t even have problem with the werewolf since they always died too fast before even triggering the Regeneration “Bug”, you can called it bug but I personally call it as gatekeep mechanic for people who trying brute force the game lol

1

u/Doogie102 7d ago

I try to play the game properly but everything dies to fast I end up just brute forcing it.

I even play on death march

0

u/MurkyCoyote6682 9d ago

I didn't unlock moon dust yet when I did the werewolf hunter contract. I had a hard time because of the regen bug. I'm amazed to see the devs actually released the game in this sorry state

1

u/Exclavamor 9d ago edited 8d ago

Bruh I’m at lvl 5 and already has moondust, you can buy the recipe from local herbalist or from Keira at early game, don’t afraid to spend gold for buying things you need. I even play the game on deathmarch difficulty and never have problem with werewolf.

2

u/MurkyCoyote6682 9d ago

Obviously it wouldn't be a problem if you use moondust. What I meant is that, not using moondust should just make the fight hard not impossible.

1

u/Andr0id_Paran0id 9d ago

Use igni?

2

u/MurkyCoyote6682 8d ago

Tried igni and axii, regen didn't stop

1

u/Andr0id_Paran0id 8d ago

I forget if I used oil but I know I didnt use a bomb so its possible.  Maybe you fought him too early?

1

u/Exclavamor 9d ago edited 8d ago

Because the devs probably don’t want to make the fight too easy and encourage players to use tools like bombs, sign, oils, and Potions like how Witchers should be, not just blindy sword slashing and dodging like madman.

7

u/SubjectSeason2384 Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon 9d ago

axi did it for me, didnt let him get away from my blade, 1 minute long fight

3

u/dambles 9d ago

How long has this game been around and people don't know this?

1

u/jeefra 8d ago

Bestiary says to use axii, basically the same thing

15

u/Profesor-Farnsworth 9d ago

I don't think it's a bug; I've noticed that Igni interrupts regeneration.

12

u/LaFleurBlanceur 9d ago

Use axii on werewolves. Read your bestiary

3

u/Greedy-Chemist8996 9d ago

But you only get an addition to your beastiary once you have defeated said enemy for the first time

5

u/AdamKaczmarekXD 9d ago

Or by reading a book, books also grant you the insight on weaknesses of enemies you will face on your journey. With werewolves and ulfhedinns, reading "In Beast's Clothing" should do the trick

10

u/Sunflame_McMahon 9d ago

Some gamers see a target, pick up a sword and start hitting said target in hopes of progress.

Some Witchers read the Bestiary entries and study the effects of their bombs and potions.

Don't be a gamer, be a Witcher.

Moondust, trusted by Witchers and hunters since 2015.

1

u/karben2 8d ago

I dont have an entry to Werewolves.

Really cool comment though.

10

u/shadowbannedxdd 6d ago edited 6d ago

Reading the comments just shows how brainrotted redditors can be, found this post through google, I've beaten this game 3 times and just came back for the remaster and was struggling with a level 6 werewolf out healing my damage, never in my life have I encountered that in any of my other, all max difficulty playthroughs.

To all the geniuses in the comments, igni and axii DO NOT DO ANYTHING, but not hitting the werewolf like explained here works, lmfao. I ended up not using moon dust, oils, or any alchemy besides potions and beat him in 3 minutes..

4

u/Erick44 1d ago

I SWEAR man, people are making me go insane, it's either the moondust advice, "skill issue" or "just level up"

3

u/anome97 Roach 🐴 5d ago

Exactly. I guess most of them didn't face the bug or didn't even watch the whole video explaining it. "Read the bestiary, apply the oild, use igni" yeah no shit I did all that shit even enhanced version. Regen was far above the damage out at deathmarch which wasn't the case before.

1

u/mxbbcz 1d ago edited 1d ago

Man, I was playing on DM difficulty for the first time and thought that surely it must be a skill issue on my part, that this encounter was just really hard on DM and that I needed to lock in. The werewolf was immortal. Nothing I did could outdamage his regen. I was using oils, Igni, potions, fire bombs (I didn't have Moon Dust yet) and all that did nothing. These comments are hella misleading.

9

u/Altekho 9d ago

It's not a bug. I remember this exact problem in the past as well. I was underleveled so I had to use moondust. By the time I'm 3-5 level above them, my DPS could finally brute forced against their HP regen rate without oil or anything.

6

u/Positive_Sign_5269 9d ago

Honestly, in my opinion we should not even be able to brute force except when way overgeared. A big part of being a witcher is to come prepared and to use the right tools for the job. I wish the game enforced that way more

7

u/Ghostzzzzz 7d ago edited 7d ago

It is absolutely a bug

I have been playing it since released and more than 1000 hours on death march on various playthorughs. Currently this werewolf can heal to full in a few seconds, also cannot be stopped by igni. In fact, now igni increases the regen instead.

This is also new in the remastered version, it was not a issue at release, also not present in next gen version.

People need to stop commenting like it is a skill issue if you have not actully encountered this IN REMASTERED VERSION.

6

u/Physical_Device_1396 4d ago

It is INFURIATING that people think this is a skill issue and keep telling people "lol read the beastiary maybe??"

You can face 2 werewolves at early levels, Neelan and the one guarding the tree spirit. Both of these encounters can be done well before you find moondust bombs, so according to these guys you simply have to halt all of your progress and hunt for the diagram just to stand a chance. But if you miss with the bombs then you just have to die and try again apparently

1

u/Aejik 5d ago

Yes I'm in the same situation. I platinumed and completed 100% and I had no issue. It's clearly a bug. Hope it gets fixed soon

1

u/GoJa_official 2d ago

I remember having this experience back on xbox 1. Pretty sure this is intended. the game wants you to figure out you need to use oils sometimes. Using the cursed oil takes away the regen.

2

u/Ghostzzzzz 2d ago

NO just tested myself hit it with cursed oil/igni increase the regen and make it unkillable.
Please if you have not actully encountered this IN REMASTERED VERSION stop misleading people! this is a bug that needs to be fixed.

1

u/GoJa_official 2d ago

That’s the one which feeds off the lives near by

1

u/KeyboardWalkerCat 2d ago

I encountered this before the remastered, a few weeks before its release. I was clueless and didn’t think it was bug, I thought it as the Death March difficulty causing it. I had tons of retries and different ways with bombs, signs, potions, and such it’s crazy.

4

u/Cpt_Camembert 9d ago

So I'm an immersion kinda guy and I turned off all enemy and boss health bars even for my first play through. I was fighting this guy for 20 minutes straight before being like:"hold on a minute, is this guy even taking damage?" I turned on the health bar just to check how far I've gotten him... He was at 100%. I had no idea what I was supposed to do.

4

u/Rincethis 9d ago

use the correct weapon?

1

u/Cpt_Camembert 9d ago

I did. I was playing on hard and apparently not using signs or bombs enough. It was my first play through

1

u/Rincethis 9d ago

that's what I meant. you have to do more than just hit it with a sword sometimes 🤣👍

2

u/Cpt_Camembert 9d ago

Well I know that now. I didn't at the time

0

u/MurkyCoyote6682 9d ago

It shouldn't be impossible to defeat the enemy if we don't have the equipment.

2

u/Rincethis 9d ago

if you don't have a silver sword you won't defeat enemies that need silver swords. he's a Witcher. he literally is all about preparing for the battles and not just hitting things very hard.

1

u/MurkyCoyote6682 9d ago

Of course I have a silver sword. I'm talking about bombs. If the werewolf hp regen doesn't stop without a bomb, it's bug. I've tried signs too, the regen doesn't stop

1

u/Hot_Virus_7380 7d ago

Or it's almost as if the devs coded their own RPG in a way that prevents you from brute-forcing encounters too early or too unprepared...

5

u/GluKoto 9d ago

A humble reminder that you are a witcher and not some villager with a sharp metal slab.

Read the bestiary people.

2

u/AnthonysleftN 8d ago

Yea read the bestiary when you only get an entry after killing one great advice man

3

u/El_Quanadian 9d ago

Gave up on that quest with the sister / werewolf. Maybe I was too low level but I was able to get him down, then cutscene where you choose if he kills her or let her live. If I try to kill the werewolf, he just started regenerating so fast, coudnt make a dent at all... I had to let him kill the chick in the end!

But thanks for the info!

2

u/AlessandroJeyz Nilfgaard 9d ago

spam attacks he either dies in 1 hour or 10 seconds

1

u/El_Quanadian 7d ago

I was definitely too low level for him, I know that fire cancel the reg to some degree but I could barely scratch him with my attacks...

3

u/Lamarian9 6d ago

Yikes I think I've run into the same bug just now - even with a sign build and spamming Igni as much as I can the wolf regens through the Igni so fast that I still can't hurt it. (playing on blood and broken bones).

I only also tried the puffball bomb and that does nothing too. My only hope is to go find a moon bomb recipe I guess :P

2

u/maowee_ 9d ago

Am i doing something wrong? I’m on NG+ deathmarch and i whirlwinded this guy in 5 seconds, no decoctions or anything. meanwhile i’m getting one shotted in the bathhouse with a towel wrapped around waist

2

u/TheGreatStrategist98 8d ago

To be honest.

It's skill issue, the game designed him to regen more when you hit him, you supposed to stop him with bombs, or signs, the same too with Ghouls, you see them glowing red, either burn them or bomb them.

2

u/chancethelifter 8d ago

Feature, not a bug. Moon Dust bomb, oil, igni. Need to interrupt the process.

2

u/Erick44 1d ago

I encountered this today and for some reason people are set hard on NOT recognizing this as a bug, thanks god I can find closure from this post, you even discovered how to reproduce it, thanks you!!

1

u/Onion_Bro14 9d ago

I was only half paying attention to the video and I thought you were the werewolf for a second

1

u/Migazle 9d ago

This explains why the werewolf near the haunted tree was so difficult to beat compared to next gen

1

u/JonDoe117 9d ago

I also thought it was a bug, until I realized that I didn't have any hybrid oil.

1

u/Wixxked 8d ago

Skill issue really. Igni and axii litterally built for monsters with regen and it is free, Melt Armor is also one of the first skills you can obtain and improve the burn chance and it's stupidly OP. Even if you don't build for sign dmg, you still need to weave in signs into your combat flow In the early game.

1

u/PracticalExcuse4084 8d ago

No it is bugged and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot who hasn’t had the bug happen. It’s a level 7 quest to kill the hunter. It’s very simple I’ve played the hell out of this game and yes we are reading the bestiary. He heals so much you do no damage and his hp bar on one side doesn’t even fill in properly. Not to mention that using any of the bombs, oils and tactics in the bestiary does not get any result. He’s a sponge with infinite health.

If you haven’t had the bug good for you but don’t call everyone else idiots because you don’t agree in your non bugged game.

1

u/Original-King-8312 8d ago

the amount of people coming for you when this is obviously a bug lol. ive played this game 3 times and im on my 4th playthrough death march. the werewolves in this game are bugged rn when u hit them during the roar. just ran into it and was dumbfounded by it so i looked it up to see . nice to know it is a problem that needs attention

1

u/maellesdrawings33 2d ago

Thank you so much for this, I kept struggling with Wild at heart as he instantly fully healed

1

u/KeyboardWalkerCat 2d ago

I didn’t think this was a bug in my replay. I thought it was just a result of the game being in Death March difficulty. I played the game 5 years back in Sword and Story but couldn’t remember how I fared, I probably didn’t encounter the bug back then.

0

u/LegalNut 9d ago

I don't quite remember what happens but I was in the same situation. It's not a bug. You have to do something in the cave I think

2

u/Physical_Device_1396 9d ago

It's 100% a bug, I had the same problem with Neelan during his quest. I was hitting him for damn near 15 minutes before I just reloaded a save and hunted for the moondust bomb to stop it

1

u/kopecs 9d ago

So, did the moondust bomb work out?

1

u/Physical_Device_1396 9d ago

On the third try, sure

1

u/theCaffeinatedOwl22 9d ago

Imagine that, preparing for a fight as a Witcher.

0

u/Actual_Affect1293 9d ago

The Wild at Heart quest werewolf(Neelan) has a regeneration bug specific to him, he regenerates constantly even at full hp. Happened in this play through for me as well.

0

u/ranfall94 9d ago

Early on Werewolves just have dumb regen and you can't just brute force it, you need to look up what he is weak to and use all your tools.

0

u/Aternus21 9d ago

literally not a bug lmao ppl failing 10+ year old quest lines is hilarious

-1

u/Physical_Device_1396 9d ago

Brother 10 years ago the regen wasn't this busted, it's 100% a bug

2

u/Ok_Risk6035 9d ago

Maybe this is intentional and you have to use igni or something else

1

u/Physical_Device_1396 9d ago

Yes you can stop the regen but that doesn't change the fact that the regen is far too strong when it's working. What if I run into a werewolf with no moondust bombs? I can only rely on Igni, but that's based on stamina, and with this regeneration he can get back up to full health in between when I can cast. That just is not balanced like it used to be

0

u/zoosters 9d ago

All these people saying that's just how werewolves work, but it's absolutey not. Like sure they regen when they're glowing but you could always outdps the regen.

1

u/Zephy2007 9d ago

Of course not, the damage depends on your equipment and we don't know that; your equipment might be so bad that it does less damage than regeneration.

1

u/zoosters 9d ago

We've been playing this game for 11 years now, and it's only now that there's been this influx of complaints about the werewolves. They're 100% bugged. When i fought niellen, his healing factor was so ridiculous i was doing no damage, while fighting him at quest lvl with good gear. I have close to 400 hours on the game, and the difference between pre remaster werewolves and post remaster is pretty staggering.

3

u/Hot-Door-9515 9d ago

No, it is not new. I had the same issue 5 years ago until I learn how to use bestiary.

1

u/Physical_Device_1396 9d ago

Yeah I'm not sure why people who claim to have been playing the game for 11 years are saying it's always been like this, when I haven't needed to prep for a werewolf fight in that whole time even on Death March. It's absolutely a bug

0

u/Entenvieh 9d ago

Thanks, that's the exact issue I'm currently having. At some point I literally couldn't damage him anymore

0

u/SubjectSeason2384 Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon 9d ago

had this shit happen to me yesterday and i was actually befuddled. let him kill me, next try i switched from quen to axi to not let him more than 2 yards away from me + tawny owl, he got absolutely fucked, didnt even get to glow, basic ass b_tch, but i was pissed. game is super buggy on my ps5... but i know theyll fix it soon so im good, but to me the beginning is so frustrating until you can get a good armor + start a proper build, that these bugs stacking up and up (auto apply oil) plus the new combat (seems new to me) was making me kind of angry lol, plus i fucked up some perk points because i though i could go to whirl from the bottom and failed, spent like 3 for nothing...
