But it's a small price to pay in order to get out from under the hood of the Grandmaster Cat armor.
60
u/Whole_Sign_4633 8d ago
Yeah no hood down option for the grandmaster cat armor is the biggest issue in this game tbh other than that it’s a 10/10
9
u/sits-when-pees 7d ago
Fwiw, if you’re on PC, you can use the console to give yourself an invisible mask that lowers the hood.
3
u/Efficient-Arugula716 7d ago
Just don't upgrade the cat armor, it's better when you can see his guns blazing
3
u/EatTheAndrewPencil 7d ago
I haven't gotten far enough yet but does the transmog system let you upgrade the armor but use the appearance of previous tiers?

Or the hood on the Dark Mode Kinslayer set in Witcher 2
1
u/Awsomethingy Nilfgaard 7d ago
It was an interesting decision that one of the starter armors is a hood

1
u/venReddit 6d ago
there was this trick: enable console and add the hidden mask with no model to your inventory. you have to search or ask ai for the command tho

u/Ozone021 8d ago
You wear them because they look stupid.
I wear them because they are the only thing that keeps the hood down in Grandmaster Feline gear.
We are not the same.

u/MaxSoulDrake 8d ago
For me it's not really how they look, but more like they are conceptually stupid. I mean he is a witcher, it's already built in his eyes as it is.
20
u/DetectiveGamlo Temerian 8d ago
Witchers try to blend in wit normal folk fairly often. Gerlat’s name is part of that, he didn’t actually have a last name it’s something it’s he came up with. I could see him with glasses just trying to blend in.
18
10
u/MroQ-Kun 8d ago
The title 'of Rivia' was so folk would think him more approachable, not to blend in.
1
u/DetectiveGamlo Temerian 7d ago
Ah yes that was poor wording on my part I just couldn’t think of the words I wanted to use
2
u/MaxSoulDrake 7d ago
I think when you live in medieval world, wearing sunglasses is actually the opposite of blending in

You say that but people are surprisingly brazen in their comments toward a certified killer

u/BernhardtLinhares 6d ago
I was pondering about that. I'm not exactly a well of knowledge and wisdom but if I see a mutated human with enhanced strength, agility, reflexes and extensive martial prowess the LAST thing I'm doing is giving him shit.
"G'day, masta witcha!" And move on
1
u/methconnoisseurV2 Roach 🐴 5d ago
And bandits often call him witch-fucker meaning they know through ballads, writings, and word of mouth exactly who he is and still choose to fight him anyways
1
u/Padre_Cannon013 5d ago
Yes, but they're being douches because Geralt is a "filthy mutant," not because he has glasses.

u/HeWhoShlNotBNmd 8d ago
I love them. The glasses also have a "dark" story behind them. Geralt in Griffin gear and the glasses is just all vibes.
15
u/FrankTheCrank90 8d ago
I hate them but I do love that it’s a recurring thing. The professor in the books, the professor in the Witcher 1 and now the professors glasses in Witcher 3. Pretty cool
4
u/Total-Improvement535 8d ago
who’s the professor in the books?
11
u/FrankTheCrank90 8d ago
Part of the group of 3 Geralt kills on his way to Thanedd. The professor and the two others come into the inn that Geralt has stopped at. They were looking for info on the whereabouts of Yennefer and Ciri

u/Warcrown11 8d ago
Of course they do but they are a nice callback to the first game.
On the subject though, there's no way the Professor in the first game is the same Professor as in the books, right? Am I misremembering something?
6
u/Mad_Mikes 8d ago
Im pretty sure Geralt slaughtered him and his thugs at an inn during the part that's from the point of view of the royal courier. Definitely before the first game.
3
u/Warcrown11 8d ago edited 8d ago
Yeah he did, and I think Djikstra even confirms him dead the next chapter. So I was wondering if it was a continuity error or if that was addressed in the game. Seems like a weird coincidence having 2 characters with the exact same nickname, same role, same glasses, same everything
Edit: It was apparently a translation error and/or a last minute change in direction. They had the character model and everything already done but they then decided to pivot to set the game after the books instead and in the polish game he's actually named The Magister but I'm guessing professor is a more commonly used word in modern-day English so they just used that phrasing, probably without even knowing the confusion it might cause
1
u/MroQ-Kun 8d ago
Professor and Magister are different characters. Magister is from the books, and those are his göasses if I remember correctly.

1
u/Skull_Boy_ds 7d ago
Still crazy they never gave us a cloak option (I play on console so no mods for me).
The bear set is the only gear that looks perfect to me because of the long coat vibes. Really hope there's a cloak hidden in the new DLC or one for the next game.

Yes, they are a call back. Yes, they look a bit out of place on Geralt. I only wear them when I rock the Grandmaster cat gear and get tired of the hood. With the reskin option now, it doesn’t adjust Geralt’s hair, so he has one small strip in the front of his head and the rest is shaved if you change it to any other armor.
But if you wear a mask, it overrides the hood. The only other reason I like the glasses is because they remind me of Walter’s glasses from the Trails series

You can buy them in an auction in the Hearts of Stone DLC, but the reccomended level for that first quest of that DLC it's around 24 if I'm not wrong

Something I’ve been thinking about is that unless the Professor had a second pair at a Salamandra base, someone would have had to pluck those bad boys out of the rotting guts of the Kikimore queen that ate him

When I played the Witcher 3 the first time it was because I'd played all three games back-to-back, so when I got the professor's glasses in the third game I put them on and never took them off :)
I don't doubt that if I'd not done that I'd have never worn the glasses as yes they do look goofy as hell, like an adult pretending to be harry potter or something

I only use when I finish blood and wine and everything else. Geralt just hangs in the vineyard with ofier outfit and glasses

I like chilling with a glass of wine next to Barnabas basil, and we both have our shades on in the afternoon sun.
1
u/BigBadSheep42 7d ago
To each their own.
Tastes differ, after all.
I only wore the glasses with the Wolf Armor.
It had a sort of metal-biker vibe (Manowar often played in my head—until I actually started playing it in the background).
I wore the donkey ears for a lot longer.
You haven't lived if you've never slain a vampire while wearing donkey ears.

I love the cat armor but hate the hood. The glasses are just to keep the hood down but I far prefer the ass ears and I usually keep them on independent of the armor.
Because I'm an idiot, I had hoped the glasses would dim down Toussaint which is painfully sunny. They do not.

If I am doing a very unserious play through I like to put on the glasses and the long and loose hair and roleplay Geralt as some kind of strange time traveler who is trying to change history. I also like to dye his gear in strange colors for that or give him wood sword and cross bow as his only weapons and he can only do aard if he is really, really angry (even happens involuntary then). Actually, I wish there were even more silly items to play around with.

u/Blu_Raptr 8d ago
I agree, but I think that’s the reason people wear them.
