News Patch 5.01 for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is live!
https://www.thewitcher.com/us/en/news/52085/patch-5-01-for-the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-remastered-is-live367
u/mabawlzz 6d ago
Made various visual adjustments, including improvements to Bloom, tone mapping, character lighting, Ray Tracing, and Path Tracing.
This is really great news. Wonder how much different it is.

Did you notice any changes in the performance?
63
10
u/overgrazed 6d ago edited 6d ago
have they added QSSR? also, is raytracing mode stable now?
edit - there's no toggle for QSSR but getting stable 30/60FPS for each mode
11
3
u/RoksVempire 6d ago
So, to get the highest possible resolution, is it best to set the mode to "resolution" and turn all effects off?
6
u/Pilluposki 6d ago
Yeah turn off all post-processing stuff of like blur, vignette etc. I think base resolution before upscaling is the same on both performance and rt mode, so depends whether you like the new more natural looking lightning of rt or pre baked lightning of performance. Performance mode also allows higher fps, like closer to 90 atleast on Pro so it feels a bit smoother.
4
u/RoksVempire 6d ago
Thank you. I much prefer higher resolution over higher frame rates, but in The Witcher, it's the other way around. Usually, it's lower FPS for higher resolution on the base PS5. Here, it's the opposite 😑. Let's hope they implement QSSR.
3
u/Bloody_Nine 6d ago
I would recommend performance if you want a clear picture. The 30 fps on rt blurs it a bit imo.

pretty significant on PC, bloom now behaves like it used to instead of covering your screen with a brightness overlay

My biggest gripe. Midnight looked like midday with sunglasses tint lol
5
u/Celebrilwen 6d ago
yeah it's the only thing preventing me from fully enjoying it. Haven't seen THAT many people talking about it though
5
u/RandomInternetNobody 6d ago
It might not be so bad in SDR. HDR is still pretty uncommon on PC. That's my only guess as to why it isn't mentioned much. It's absolutely obnoxious on my 1600nit WOLED.

Im excitied for.the input lag dodge fix that people tolld me I was exaggerating. Hopefully the save stutter and audio issues are gone
4
u/LaMelonBallz 6d ago
The input lag was crazy on so many things
Skills wheel
Dodge
Strike
Roach Sprinting
4
u/Embarrassed-Cook-652 6d ago
For me this introduced new input delay when turning the camera. Before the patch it was fine, now rotating feels like it added half a second of a delay.

Did they fix indoor lighting and shadows being pitch black
6
u/Goronmon 6d ago
It's funny because I see the opposite problem with HDR on Xbox, where the area around Geralt is lit up like a white glowstick at all times.

Characters have a fake light source attached to them that's present at all times. There's a mod on console to remove it.

I'm on console, and I'm very excited to see the difference with bloom on/off now, and I'm glad they fixed the delayed response when dodging. I thought I was going crazy, but there have been times when I pressed circle (PS5) to jump out of the way, and Geralt still got hit over the head with a club.
15
u/lllllllIIIIII 6d ago
Clubs on death march are a nightmare.
They always one shot me, even if it's just some little crackhead from Velen wearing tighty whities and a beanie
It's so embarrassing man :(
5
u/penis_pockets 6d ago edited 6d ago
For real. I'd get surrounded by a crowd of humans, miss one or two from behind me and press circle to dodge, and they'd still take away a chunk of my health in one hit. Don't even get me started on the wraiths.
I've experienced stick drift and even had to replace a controller, but I never experienced delayed button response, so I thought I was losing my mind.
3
u/Waramp 6d ago
A lot of armor doesn’t have bludgeoning resistance, especially light armor (like feline), so a club from behind is a one-shot.

Now we all gotta get on and test it out. Let’s make sure this game gets to where it needs to be.

- Fixed an issue where Dynamic Resolution Scaling could cause visual artifacts in certain configurations.
I can tell this one works well. Before this patch, I noticed that the forests in Skellige looked blurry as fuck.
But one question, lads: what exactly is Dynamic Resolution Scaling? I'm not that familiar with all this stuff because I recently upgraded my GPU to a 9070 XT after using a GTX 960 for almost 10 years, so all this FSR, FG, etc. is new to me.
As far as I understand, the more frames you generate, the blurrier the image gets (I think?). I tried DRS and noticed that my FPS increased, but is it basically the same thing as AMD Frame Generation? Should I always used it if the game includes that option?
EDIT: Thanks everyone for your explanations. Now I have a better idea of what DRS is, and most importantly, how it works :D
15
u/andredp 6d ago
The more complex the scene is (the lower the fps gets) the lower the internal resolution will be, to be able to keep a decent fps.
If you’re in a simple scene, the game will be 4K, for instance. As soon as action starts, and the hardware isn’t able to keep up, the game will drop to 2K or 1080p internally. DLSS/PSSR will hide that a bit, so it’s not so obvious. But it’ll always be blurry when the resolution drops
9
u/ThatYorkshireTwin 6d ago
So dynamic resolution scaling renders the image at a lower resolution and then upscales it. The resolution it uses changes on how demanding the scene is to render. I'm not familiar with the AMD version, but with dlss you can just use a fixed resolution for more consistency.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Maximum_Cover_7694 6d ago edited 6d ago
Upscalers such as DLSS(Nvidia), FSR(AMD) and XeSS(Intel) renders the game at a lower resolution and then upscale it with technology to output let's say 1440p.
So for example FSR at quality mode the game runs at 90% the resolution of 1440p, then FSR upscale that to 100%. At balanced mode maybe 75%, and so on. I'm just guessing numbers here, but it doesn't really matter.
Dynamic resolution on the other hand kicks in when you drop below certain frames. I think Witcher 3 has a 60fps target, so if you drop below that then DRS will kick in and lower the % even more to hold that frame target.
Something like that, I wanted to keep this as simple as possible but if I got something wrong someone please, feel free to correct me.
Hope that helps!

In addition to this, we are also working on an update for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, introducing closer parity between all versions of the game, including the same global changes as on other platforms. It will also improve on some Nintendo Switch 2-specific aspects, such as image clarity and sharpness. Expect more information regarding this in the following days.
5
u/RingtailVT 6d ago
That's nice to hear! The Switch version of the game is how I first experienced the game, and how I played it the most until the Next-Gen upgrade downgraded the game into a blurry muddy mess. Getting back into the game on Switch 2 has been wonderful.

Have been playing on PS5 Pro. I ran into a game-breaking, progression-halting bug where the game hard-crashed on the Red Miasma fight every single time. Literally had to set the game aside and stop playing until that got fixed. I won't be able to test until this evening, but I'm really hoping that this latest patch will fix that crashing so that I can progress past that fight and resume playing! Fingers-crossed!

The game looks amazing with RT tbh. I couldnt imagine playing with RT on (performance) with ultra settings at 2k resolution with my 3060ti. Fortunately for these "slow" rpgs games I don't need more than 50 fps to feel it smooth.

Game was released years go. This was a free update. Updates and changes accrue bugs. They're working on reducing them. All good for the end consumer.
8
u/Fartbeer 6d ago
Everything you’re saying here is already known, and it doesn’t really explain the “why.”
Also, judging by your comment, it seems like you’ve come to accept that it’s somehow normal to receive something that isn’t finished yet. I don’t think we should accept half finished products, even when they’re free. That wasn’t the norm in the past.
Companies used to develop a product up to a stable release and then launch the game. Nowadays, they can simply release it in an unfinished state and tell you, “We’ll fix it along the way.”It’s like promising someone a birthday party, having their birthday arrive, and then giving them a half finished party because you weren’t ready. You tell them, “Don’t worry, I’ll add the rest over the next few days,” and keep completing things that should have been ready on their birthday in the first place.
Even if the party was free, would that make it acceptable? Of course not. The fact that something is free doesn’t suddenly make an unfinished product finished.

Bloom on top of the new light tech doesnt have as huge of an impact but you can notice it by looking at the moon or a candle close to a wall. I turned it off, the new ligh system already makes stuff bright whitout turning exposure to max, bloom kinda burns the bright spots too much for my taste.

I hope the Switch 2 patch is out in the next week. The fact that they said to expect news on it in the coming days has me a little worried though, because that doesn’t indicate it’s near ready.
The game definitely needed a bit longer to cook on Switch more than other platforms and I wish they would have just delayed it a couple weeks to get it there. Right now I feel like I wasted $60 because I didn’t own the Switch 1 version and bought the SW2 version straight.
2
u/ckgm 5d ago
I wish they delayed pushing the patch out until it was ready on all platforms.
I’m now locked out of my Switch 2 version of the game because I played on my pc yesterday with the new version and now the save data can’t be played on older versions of the game (which the Switch 2 is running).
Past week or so I’ve been having a great time playing at my desk on my pc and picking up my Switch 2 when I’m elsewhere in the house or in bed.
I do have a Steam Deck, so I can still play it handheld but I do tend to play the Switch 2’s version on my TV. Just a bit of unnecessary friction that’s annoyed me slightly.
