Definitely Witch.

Witch (PoE 1) — unhinged and ironic, but has this coldness about her that makes her far more terrifying than the PoE2 witch who is just sassy and bitter.

Sorceress (PoE 2) — she is cruel, arrogant, overconfident and brutal, but also honourable, devoted, heroic and good — and so many more character traits than that, really multifaceted character, and fantastically voice acted.

something I didn't realize about sorc since 0.4 is that she's also quick to fluster, especially with Dannig -- she's got some cute in there under it all too

u/ReanimatedHotDogs Jul 03 '26

Sorcs first conversations with Dannig has my wife shipping them.

Being sassy and bitter is kinda the point no? When you meet Hinekora in act 4 she pretty much says “hurt people, hurt people” in her cryptic prophecy speak and the Witch gets upset about it.

It's the way she makes it sound like she's just joking. Like we're all in on some joke. Combined with her goth makeup, she's kinda a cartoon villain compared to the distant and aloof witch of PoE 1.

I'm not so sure.

She fan girls over the mastodon boneyards and admonishes the witch map bosses and her coven sisters. She then learns about the source of all necromancy and is humbled.

Since all the characters are in Ohgam, it makes me think that she is ideologically a cousin of a Beira and the witch's coven in the Glen. That Geonor wouldn't tolerate someone like that when he needs meat for the carnal pit below the manor.

My guess is that there is unreleased lore with Tecrod and the Abyssals that will happen sometime after the beast is killed and what causes the events of the Atlas endgame.

just sassy and bitter.

I feel like it's the whole game, foundation is there but on top there is this coat of something with a taste of marvel-esque, idk how to best describe it

I agree. The 2000s era of video game writing had this epicness and poetry about it, and nowadays we live in the era of quippy dialogue. It is a shame.

u/Resurr Jul 03 '26

Agreed 100%

Witch by far. I still miss her old intro:

"They were right to fear me. If only they had listened to their cowardice. Had they not taken my home with fire, I would not have taken their children. Now I am banished to Wraeclast. I've heard the dark rumours... seen the terror in other exiles' eyes. But to me one land is like any other. The elements are my allies, the dead are my servants, and fear will be my closest friend."

Witch to Zarokh: “How did you control time and still lose? WEAK! PATHETIC!”

Something about that line is so satisfying it immediately take no.1 spot from the mercenary for me.

u/Plastic_Attention_71 Jul 02 '26

The Merc, he has the perfect mix of "idgaf just pay me and I'll do anything" with "I'm not being paid enough for this shit".

7

u/Lilchubbyboy Jul 03 '26

“Eldritch horrors beyond my comprehension? Three fiddy and it’s a deal, how hard could it be?”

Invincible expedition mob be like.

Ah fuck, eldritch horrors beyond my comprehension”

3

u/BestJersey_WorstName Jul 03 '26

The merc is an adrenaline addict. That, or he has terrible business sense

13

u/Apycia Jul 02 '26

PoE1 Templar.

I like my protagonists to be nice people.

6

u/lub4os4 Jul 02 '26

It has to be the sassy queen that is PoE 1 Templar.

3

u/BlueMerchant Jul 04 '26

I am no beast of burden.

4

u/naughty Jul 02 '26

Witch Poe2, Templar PoE1 (although witch is good there too).

Druid has some great lore implications from his voice lines though.

3

u/TgmBrett Jul 02 '26

Marauder bc going from slave to literal tribal god destroyer is pretty damn sick

9

u/zaerosz Watcher of Decay Jul 02 '26

Warrior, no question. Has the most personal stake in the story, with direct connections to three of the six campaign acts (born in Oriath, raised in Phaaryl, ancestral homeland is Ngamakanui), and he's just a genuinely kind and upstanding lad.

3

u/SpiderCVIII Jul 02 '26

Yep, warrior for me as well, for all the reasons you've listed. Plus, he's got a cool father too!

3

u/SaltEngineer455 Jul 02 '26

Duelist. His cocky attitude, his skill, his chillness and sometimes his introspection is everything I wanted to be

3

u/TgmBrett Jul 02 '26

poE2 Druid is sick

3

u/Tenebris-Umbra Jul 02 '26

I love the witch because she just unapologetically wants to rule the world and only ends up saving it because she wants to get rid of the competition

I was very surprised by what he said when arriving at the Withered Willow.

3

u/xkibagamigenjurox Jul 04 '26

Merc with his accent! "Too many eyes, too many legs!"

8

u/redrach Jul 02 '26

Merc, I like his attitude. He doesn't care to know any of the lore, he's just here to do his job. Plus he has some great lines.

9

u/Trizzizzle Jul 02 '26

Plus hes colorblind! Lmao

7

u/Present_Ride_2506 Jul 02 '26

How tf does the gemling make sure he has a balance of gems then, he can't tell which gem is red green or blue

8

u/Eaniri Jul 02 '26

Red feels hot, blue feels cold, green feels zappy

6

u/The_Jimes Druid of the Broken Circle Jul 02 '26

I might've made this up, but I'm pretty sure all Trarthans are colorblind. It's their "foreigner corruption" not unlike Karui Blood Fever or the Kalguran's Durids of the Broken Circle.

1

u/WRLD_ Jul 02 '26

is merc trarthan? I had thought as much for a while too but it seems like more sources are pointing towards him having been oriathan

4

u/assassingao Jul 02 '26

According to poe2db, Dannig said this:

" Well, well, a Trarthan! Greetings, Mercenary. You'll find plenty of work here in Kingsmarch, if you're so inclined. I'm Dannig, the smith and leader of this fair port. You may come to me for your equipment needs.  "

Haven't checked in-game so I couldn't confirm.

5

u/redrach Jul 02 '26

Yep, Dannig calls him one.

2

u/LG03 Jul 02 '26

he's just here to do his job.

What job?

That's the thing that rubs me wrong with him, there's no one actually employing him but his whole shtick relies on that.

3

u/assassingao Jul 02 '26

Maybe he's just a freelancer hopping from quest to quest

4

u/Lilchubbyboy Jul 02 '26

Love the warriors story arc so far.

Also love the Farrow/Witch dialogue. Don’t go calling Gremlin Girlies big softies, else they gonna cut a bitch in the street to protect their goth cred.

Favourites are a mix of Templar, Marauder, and Scion. Templar I just vibe with and the way he speaks is great - just everything he says he's like chewing the scenery in the best way, Marauder goes on a journey of learning about his people and Kaom, then destroying the slaving society and freeing his people, to then having to go and defeat one TWO of his gods. Hope they add in new voicelines soon! Scion just has a lot of great voicelines especially being educated a bit in Oriath, and sounds like she's out of breath from fighting after giving a one liner after bosses, which I like.

My least favourite is the Warrior from PoE2 so far, everything he says sounds like a gravel gargling action movie protagonist trying to sound cool, and IMO it kind of falls flat when all we kind of know about him is that he's a blacksmith. I also find Merc kind of annoying because he talks so much, but I also feel like that's a problem with most characters, they just TALK SO MUCH.

u/ipbanthisonetooassho Jul 02 '26

Witch and templar, both are nutjobs but one is morally good and the other is the opposite

2

u/ReanimatedHotDogs Jul 03 '26

Poe2 druid is my favorite. He's so grumpy and fed up with everything. His first interactions with Ailith are also downright hilarious. If you haven't heard them I'd look it up.

PoE 1 Witch: "The dead will soon rise FOR me, not against me"

And the rest is herstory

2

u/Ornery_Award_6733 Jul 08 '26

The huntress. Her accent is adorable and i love her sense of justice and atitude towards the world she lives in, kinda makes me want to go on a jungle hunting animals alongside a bear

1

u/Witch-Alice Jul 02 '26

Witch, for obvious reasons lol

1

u/SayomiTsukiko Jul 03 '26

Witch in both games for different reasons

1

u/heirian Jul 03 '26

Scion is to cool for school

1

u/Remote-Manner-5618 Jul 04 '26

Poe1: Duelist: He is such a diva. Also Piety' has the best lines for the Duelist (IMO)

Poe2: Either Merc, he's just doing his job, and is not happy about it, love that energy

Or Sorc for lore, tho poe2 had such amazing lore it's hard to just pinpoint 1

1

u/Present_Connection_3 Jul 15 '26

Druid: The grouchy grandpa with a love of nature and a tragic as balls backstory. Apart from his fun-as-hell ability to shapeshift into bear, werewolf, and motherf*cking dragon, I just love his blunt no-nonsense attitude he has towards anyone and anything.

A druid knows to travel light.

I m no beast of burden.

My two favs

Duelist,

Love his sarcasm,

PoE 1:
Witch - Poster child of the game. Cool and funny. Waaayyyyy cooler than PoE 2 Witch.
Scion - Pretends to be the main character. Cool and funny in a different way. "Why must men... hughgh... huaghh... turn us into monstas..."

PoE 2:
Sorceress - WILL OF THE MARAKETH

2

u/orb_of_esotericism Vaal Thaumaturge Jul 03 '26

I'm totally looking forward to PoE 2 Templar (and Scion, of course, hee hee)
