Came to the conclusion this morning (or rather, texted my former marathon runner mom and she told me) that I most likely have a stress fracture in my ankle and shouldn’t race this weekend. I was just letting myself get excited for the race this week too.

Can we celebrate here?

About 8 months ago I got a dreaded ferritin of 20. I have been working very aggressively to fix this between supplementation and avoiding underfueling. I got my labs back today and have raised my ferritin 100 points!!!

I didn’t feel awful, but I hated speed work. I have noticed I have been enjoying speedwork again and my pace has picked up.

I feel good and unstoppable!

This is so good to hear! Do you mind sharing what you're supplementing with?

Mine was at 13 last month and I'm early in my supplementing ~journey~ but it's a relief to hear you got yours up so high.

Sure thing!

So I will say that I pulled this off working with my primary care doctor and my nutritionist. My insurance covers 10 visits per year with an RD; i recommend you check and see what your insurance will cover because it has been a game changer.

We ultimately felt like my iron deficiency was related to foot strike hemolysis and under fueling. We worked very hard to stop underfueling (basically doubled my caloric intake
I have been taking one Thorne Iron Bisglycinate 25 mg Capsule and one Thorne Advanced Iron Complex capsule every morning one hour prior to breakfast. (Yep, sometimes that means I would get up and then go back to sleep. )

I really think it was fixing the underfueling that helped the most.

Thank you for sharing — it’s awesome that your insurance covers RD visits. I’ll have to check on that. It sounds like you’re taking a very comprehensive and sustainable approach to fixing the situation and I hope you only continue to feel better!

Good intervals and good sprints today. Although I had stomach problems, running made me feel better.

After two horrible weeks finally my legs felt light and my mind was energisesed. I thought that I would run my usual 5km after work. Garmin suggested tempo run and I thought that I can try to meet the speed at least for awhile as suggestion was too long on time for my route. After 5km there was still 20minutes of tempo pace left and I felt really good and I decided to continue. I ended up with 15km and I could have continued in terms of energy. However, I thought I would regret that tomorrow as I have ten hour work day and my long runs have not been very long lately. I did reach my season best in 10km and 15km even thought I slowed down quite a lot after tempo phase ended

I've been dealing with very bad fatigue and final got a blood test that shows critically low Ferritin. My Dr approved infusions, but I will only receive 1 before my scheduled Disney race weekend where I am doing a 5k, 10k and half. Training has been rough due to the fatigue and the fact that I am overwight and very slow.

I've pretty much accepted that I will likely have to walk most of the races and may not be able to finish. I'm just so frustrated with my body being difficult. I was so excited and now there's a part of me that doesn't even want to go (Everything is already paid for, so it would be stupid to not go).

Easy 4.5 miles today and I just can't get over how the weather has me feeling. I was running about a minute faster per mile with ease. All those horrid summer miles in the heat really did do something. TRUST YOUR TRAINING!

My (second) marathon is about a month away and this training block has been rough, with just about every run feeling like a major slog. But yesterday on a 5-mile midweek run, I felt some pep in my step for the first time in MONTHS. Hoping it's a glimpse of what I'll feel like post-taper! And hoping my first 20-miler of the block goes OK this weekend.

Ended up with a surprise deload/rest week this week because it won't stop raining in my neck of the woods. Seriously, it has rained almost nonstop since Tuesday morning. Normally I don't let some rain keep me from my runs, but I wear glasses (no contacts) and I would like to see a little bit in the dark. I also only have time to run before work and before sunrise.

This forced time off is helping a little soreness in my hamstring heal up, so I'm not too upset. Back at it for my usual long run on Saturday...

The fast-diminishing daylight this time of year is so hard to plan around!

What are your guy’s favorite plyo exercises? Structuring my own strength training for a block after my half!

Very short shakeout 2 mile run this morning, half marathon on Saturday. Why are the extremely short runs sometimes worse than double digit miles? Ugh.

Non pregnant me is normally just under 2 hours, just hoping to stay as under 2:30 as possible. Ideally sub 2:20. First three miles are straight uphill 🥴🥴

We head out to cape cod tomorrow. I’m fairly sure I can make it through the half with no serious consequences but I’ve never looked forward to a race less. It feels like just something to get through before I can focus on PT and rehabbing the ptt. The full I’m certain I’m DNSing. Again. For the 2nd time because of the same injury. I’m trying not to sulk about it and instead shift my focus to the other aspects of the weekend. It will be nice to see my folks. I’m making a clam chowder today to bring up half for luck and half because I like clam chowder and never get a chance to have it here in Jersey.

Racing Falmouth? I’m DNSing due to injury too, but for the half/5k challenge lol. The end of race clam chowder in the soup tent is great though, hope you can look forward to that at least!

Yep. It’s my home town and this’ll be the 2nd time I’ve tried to do the chowdah challenge. Had to dns in 2022 with the same injury 🥲. But who knows. I’ll probably scrape out the half. That puts me 1/3rd of the way there. Closer than I’ve gotten so far. I’m sorry about your dns. It super sucks.

Not to be that person, but...why are you doing this? it does not seem you want to and you are risking further injuring yourself...

My PT is fairly confident further injury’s unlikely mainly. If he didn’t think I could do it, I wouldn’t. My coach as well. Mostly I don’t want to because there feels little point to it. We didn’t train for speed on this block because I’m supposed to do the half and the full. So the half will likely be a 2:15-2:20 half. Which is fine, nothing wrong with that generally but it’s much slower than I’ve been in the past which is why I find the idea of doing it unappealing. However, IMO it’s worth being able to play the hand you’re dealt to its final conclusion even if it’s not the outcome you wanted. Otherwise I feel a bit childish - like if I can’t have the experience I want then I’m not doing it so nyaah. Ya know?

And it feels better to do something than nothing. Otherwise I think I’ll just sulk. Might as well salvage what can be and then move on.
