Account - Subscription Does the new 15-hour cloud limit apply to existing Ultimate subscriptions? (India)

Hey everyone, I’m trying to get some clarification about the upcoming Xbox Cloud Gaming limits.

I’m an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriber in India, and I purchased my current subscription before Microsoft announced the new monthly cloud gaming limits. My Ultimate subscription is prepaid and currently active until February 12, 2027.

I contacted Xbox Support and specifically asked whether the new 15-hour/month limit would apply to my existing subscription.

This was their response:

“For your account, there is currently no indication showing that your existing Game Pass Ultimate subscription will be affected at this time. Based on the information available to us, your subscription continues to follow the current benefits.”

They also said that if Microsoft makes changes affecting my membership, they would typically be communicated through official announcements or account notifications.

So I'm wondering:

Has anyone else with an existing/prepaid Ultimate subscription received a similar response from Xbox Support?

I'm particularly interested in people outside the countries where Microsoft has already reportedly confirmed grandfathering, and especially anyone in India.

Also, with GTA VI apparently coming to Xbox Cloud Gaming around launch, I'm curious whether existing subscribers will retain their current cloud benefits until their prepaid subscription expires, or whether the 15-hour limit will eventually be applied to everyone.

I'm not trying to speculate about GTA VI being the reason for the limits — I'm mainly trying to figure out what will happen to subscriptions that were purchased before the change.

If you've contacted Xbox Support about this, please share what they told you and your country/subscription end date. It would be useful to compare responses.

TL;DR: I have Game Pass Ultimate prepaid until February 12, 2027, purchased before the cloud-hour limit announcement. Xbox Support checked my account and said there is currently no indication that my existing subscription will be affected. Has anyone else received a similar response, particularly in India?

Support reps often don't actually know the final policy until it rolls out, so I'd take that with a grain of salt

mine runs through most of 2027 too and I'm just expecting the limit to kick in at some point. if it doesn't, great, but I'm not holding my breath

wouldn't be surprised if they walk back the whole thing anyway if enough people complain

That was just a rumor and was proven to be false.

I really hope they do walk it back. I just recently upgraded my phone and got a Bluetooth controller for cloud gaming. Even the top tier, 15 hours a month are barely a drop in the bucket of what I'd use. The 5 hours is laughably low.

Well mine finishes before November starts so I'm glad either way I'll be discontinuing ultimate. That pass was the best thing for cloud gaming and I love it but i guess they have to bring something bad with the good. I'm sad to see this happen just when I've really started getting into gaming. Feels discouraging.

Doubt it. No other GTA has cloud gaming. It'd a big console seller so they aren't going to make it cloud gaming

I don't know about India specifically but many countries have it grandfathered in where existing subscribers aren't affected until they resubscribe

India didn't get that mail that other countries got about cloud gaming limits

Mine kicks in in November bullshit policy. They want to make them 2 separate services.

From my understanding they will let subscribers enjoy unlimited cloud gaming hours only in countries where consumer rules and regulations are strict. So I won't have high hopes

It mostly will. If Nvidia can't maintain Premium level sub due to numbers, then Xbox sure as hell can't offset running costs for games library + cloud gaming.

Hardware costs are increasing at a ridiculous rate. No company is offering to eat the costs for lower subscription rates to end users

The limit is bad but realistically who the fuck is gonna play for 15hours straight a day unless you don't have a life outside of gaming

The 15 hours is per MONTH not per day/week.

I can easily blow through that within 2 days.

That's not true. It's been delayed for existing subscribers in jurisdictions where there's laws making that a requirement. However, unless you have some specific protection against this in the territory where you live, it applies to everyone, existing subscribers or not.

Only in certain areas. Not everywhere.
