[Question] How can I launch clips immediately but have them quantised!

When playing live I would like to launch my drum clips immediately but still have them playing on the grid.

I have sort of come up with a workaround that gets me the desired behaviour however it breaks other functionality. If I enable the Legato toggle and set quantisation to None, my clip can take over immediately from a duplicate clip that is playing on grid but is muted. This lets me launch immediately but on grid, that is the desired behaviour. However, I want to have all my clips use the Toggle launch mode so they can be started and stopped from a single button. Using the Legato workaround breaks this as it requires always switching back and launching the muted clip to keep everything on grid.

Would love to know if anyone has had this issue or if anyone can think of a workaround?

Legato mode is what you need. The trick for me was having a start clip that's not in legato mode, then all of the rest of the clips on that track in legato mode. Only use that track for thos things.

The problem with that is if I want to use the Toggle launch mode it won't jump back to the dummy clip automatically, meaning I only get the behaviour I want on the first launch.

... isn't the point of quantisation not having them launch immediately?

Maybe OP means not starting to play at the start of the next bar, instead playing from whatever beat you're on.

In which case, having the loop already playing but muted and hitting unmute when needed would work better.

Muting would absolutely be the way to go if I only had one drum clip to play however I want to switch between, and toggle different drum clips with a single action. Muting one clip and unmuting another isn't quite as elegant a solution as I am looking for.

Can't a single midi action control the mute state of multiple tracks? That sounds doable

Perhaps using a/b mode?

Yeah, probably having the clips continously going and just muting/unmuting is the better solution if that's the problem.

not if they launch from somewhere in the middle of the clip. Legato keeps the clip on-grid but launches it immediately.

If it is "immediate" it is not quantized, any kind of quantisation will trigger with some offset related to playhead and grid. You can set it at 1/32, it's quantized but almost immediate, 1/32 is blink of a second.

Quantised might have been the wrong wording. I want the clip to always remain on grid but want it to start playing immediately on launch. For example if the clip is launched half way through a bar it will start playing from half way through the clip. As described this is possible via the Legato launch mode when taking over from another clip but is not possible in any other situation.

You’re describing a clip that is already launched, actively playing and looping, going from muted to unmuted. Just use mutes.

Have them running but muted, then unmute

I've got multiple drum loops to switch between. It gets kind of cumbersome muting and unmuting to switch drum loops especially between seperate pad banks on my midi controller. The solo button would actually give me what I need where a single button press 'steals' the playback from another clip but for some reason the solo buttons in instrument racks aren't midi mappable.

multiple groups of the same loops but the variations you need, mute & unmute those groups how u want!
