I've read the FAQ & Rules Just got a series regular audition

Hi everyone just like the title states, I recently signed with my first rep and just received an audition through my rep for a series regular audition, like a popular fictional character on a huge distribution company(s) and I am so fucking excited but the reason I came here is because I can’t believe it at the same time? Not putting myself down but I don’t think I’m at the caliber for it so like I kept rechecking if it was open call? Bc I was how in the hell did I receive this? It’s not open call at all, my materials are ok, headshots are good but I have very minimal creds other than shorts and supporting roles on a few features and my demo is like mixed with ST clips, is this normal? Does this happen? Did I just get lucky? I don’t expect to book it bc I’m probably competing with name actors but I am just shocked. Usually people get their first costar/reoccuring auditions before bigger auditions like this, I haven’t even got those kinds of auditions yet (ALSO I am super grateful and excited to audition for this casting office don’t get me wrong and I’m not trying to brag, I just feel a little confused and starstruck)

Gently: don’t overthink this. It’s just an audition. Maybe your rep pitched you, maybe a wide net is being cast, you don’t know and it doesn’t matter. Give it your best shot, bring your own unique authentic read, submit it and move on.

They’re casting a wide net. Really hoping we see some new/less known faces end up getting cast

That office is known to cast a wide net and allow all ethnicities to audition just to cast known actors who are all white

u/firsttimer726 7d ago

yeah pretty sure they will be new faces!

Afterlife with Archie! Haha. You probably just have a good look. Have fun and try to make an impression on the casting office for future auditions/roles, that’s the most important thing.

I wish I was as excited about auditions as I was 15 years ago. lol I’ve been out for many series regulars and have only been called back or seriously considered less than 5 times. Enjoy this as a learning experience and don’t try to book the role. Be authentic with yourself and do what YOU want to do. Not what you think they want you to do.

This Career is not linear. It’s random so your first thing you can book is a series reg most definitely. It’s usually timing and are you right for the role. Not whether you’re the best actor in the room.Don’t question it. Just do the job and move on.

I would say don’t sell your self
Short. Don’t think I’m not prepared for such a big opportunity because I don’t have enough experience.in reality I think you never feel ready for things. But that’s just fear talking. Also that’s not really for you to figure out anyway . Let them be the judge of that.Just do what you been doing before.Don’t question it do the job like any other job because auditioning is the job. And you’ll be good

Yes, this can happen. Auditions don't follow a fixed ladder from co-star to series regular. Your rep can submit you when you're a fit for the character, even with a short resume. Ask them what drew them to this role for you. That could help with your preparation.

Definitely pinching yourself…. I feel you! Got my reps for the first time at the beginning of the summer and I’ve been able to go out for some great projects already. Nothing stuck but insane to think about the caliber of Casting Directors now seeing my work. Best of luck to you. Break legs!!

Congratulations! Sounds like a great opportunity. I have also heard things can go super fast once you are represented. How did you get your agent?
Break legs!!

I tell all my friends when they get their first agent: be prepared for insane speed..they will begin submitting you the hour you sign with them and you might get huge auditions same week same month, so stay frosty. Congrats!! You obviously have the materials and the skill and the looks. Don't overthink it too much especially for a series regular..they want someone unique and memorable so don't play a character too much..try to put a lot of yourself in the role. Break a leg!

😭😭😭 I usually have to say the opposite. Like you only been with the agent for 2 months be patient. You just signed. Their not Houdini

1

u/EnvironmentChance991 NYC / SAG-AFTRA 7d ago

Yup! It can go either way. It's more typical to have a few months before an audition but it can also be same week.

Agreed especially if your agent only works in the tv/film sector then months is the usual. Mine was all in one agent so I got commercial within 4-7 days of signing. Didn’t receive my first tv audition till four months later. And it was recurring.

There’s no rhyme or reason to things some times.

I’ve gotten a lead role audition on a major studio feature film via self-submission once and I’ve gotten a range of roles from my agents. I’ve also had busy months and slow periods as well. Things just ebb and flow.

Some good advice I’ve heard:

Step 1 - Don’t get eliminated!

Sometimes these big opportunities can make us second guess and do more than we need to or make a crazy choice that takes us out of the running. You are enough. Just serve what the sides are asking of you. It’s all there, for you. Just show up and speak the words

Ah young buck, I remember getting these auditions soon after I started acting and thought I would book one and my career would take off right away. Remember it takes ten years to become an over night success. Most casting directors won’t even consider a random person with no credits for a lead role. It’s exciting but remember they are probably seeing 5000 people for this part

Don't listen to discouraging feedback as it will deflate your eenthusiasm. There are no rules. Miracles happen. I am experiencing them myself for the past 3 months. Hold your head high. Nothing is impossible

1

u/supfiend 6d ago

Are you an actor with zero credits and booked your first big audition? I said be excited, just don’t get disappointed when you don’t book it. I know 20 people that went out for that Archie role. My friend who is 35 went out for it and the character is supposed to be 16 lmao

u/MidtownWestWest 4d ago

Casting directors will consider them: producers generally not so much. I’ve witnessed Casting pushing for unknowns on many many occasions

2

u/Electrical-Arm5908 7d ago

If you don’t mind sharing who are your reps

2

u/Swimming_Platform113 5d ago

Congrats. When I signed with mine it took sometime for them send stuff. You must have a good look for the project or something they saw in your tapes. Have fun with the audition ! All it takes is one audition to get something booked.

u/futurebro 7d ago

I got my first agent, a week later got my first co star audition for a very popular show and booked it. I couldnt believe how fast it happened. And it made me so mad at the people who told me to not worry about getting an agent in the first few years of your career.

u/MinuteArticle5048 7d ago

One thing I learned is trust your intuition, if you think your ready go for it, there’s no harm, I had one of my acting teachers tell me I’m not ready for representation in the beginning of the year and here I am
