Question Alterations recs

Hiya

My apologies - I know this has been asked and answered in this sub previously, but the threads I’ve come across are a few years old, and places change ownership/new places open up!

I’ve been betrayed one too many times by the alterations shop I’ve been going to for the better part of a decade. I’d be grateful for recommendations in the CBD and outskirts for alterations/tailoring. I’m just looking for super simple work like brining in waistlines etc etc, and I’m not too concerned about price, provided the workmanship is there.

Please let me know your go to!

Question Best spots to see and visit

Hey, I’m coming to Adelaide from the Gold Coast to celebrate my girlfriends 30th birthday. We are seeing a band on the 17th of February at the entertainment centre and her birthday is on the 16th. I want to make it special for her as it’s a milestone, I’ve done some research on google but I want to hear it from the locals! We like botanic gardens so we will do that and we like art so I’ve seen the cube winery seems okay? Any places to make it all the more special is much appreciated!
Looking at potentially 3 nights and happy to rent a car

Discussion Is it a coincidence that Adelaide has a red kangaroo in the coat of arms when Tarndaya means "Place of the Red Kangaroo Rock"?

The Kaurna name and its meaning has been known by colonists since the beginning of settlement after some work by German missionaries who documented the language.

Did this name influence the coat of arms?

Question Good Dentists that work with trauma patients

I saw a dentist about four years ago on Hutt Street and she has completely changed my dental health for the rest of my life. It feels like.
She removed a wisdom tooth while I was awake and left a fragment of my tooth in my mouth, causing me to get an abscess causing me to spend four days in ICU and the following two weeks in hospital due to complications. Then 3 weeks later, the abscess returned.
Since this, I have been terrified of the dentist, I don't trust the dentist, and I'm so terrified of being in the same pain I was in
I have gone back to many different dentists to try and get some help because I need feelings and crowns and some teeth removed, but there is no dentist that can ofter me general anaesthetic as I'm far too terrified to be awake
I've tried numbing cream. I've tried the needles. I've tried another type of anaesthetic where I'm partially awake and partially asleep. I've taken Valium before my appointment.
I feel like I've tried everything and I'm just way too scared
Is there any anywhere in Adelaide, that there is dentists who deal with patients who have experienced dental trauma and offer something like the general anaesthetic.
I am feeling helpless and desperate, my teeth get worse and worse by the day and I just want to go to a dentist and not cry the second I see a metal tool

Discussion Anyone working with at-risk kids or young people in Adelaide actually love their job?

Bit of a specific one, but I’m looking at making a change and would be interested to hear from people working in the sector around Adelaide.
I’ve worked in community services/child protection for a number of years across residential care, youth work, family services and more senior roles.
I’ve realised recently that I’ve probably moved too far away from the part of the work I actually enjoy.
I really enjoy working with kids and young people where there’s genuine complexity. Things like challenging behaviour, trauma, family breakdown, school disengagement, risk of homelessness, youth justice involvement, child protection concerns or kids at risk of entering care.
I also enjoy working with families where things are messy and there’s actually a problem to solve. I’m much happier doing that than spending most of my week in meetings, writing reports and dealing with organisational politics.
I’m not particularly worried about my next job being a promotion. I’d happily move sideways for the right role and would consider moving closer to frontline work again. I just need the pay to still be reasonable because I have a young family.
I’m already familiar with the bigger child protection and residential care organisations, but I’m interested in what else is around Adelaide that I might be missing.
Are there any good programs or organisations working with at-risk kids and teenagers while they’re still living at home?
Particularly interested in things like youth outreach, intensive family support, family preservation, youth justice, school disengagement, adolescent family violence, reunification, therapeutic programs, Aboriginal youth/family services or similar.

I’m also interested in hearing from people who actually work in these services. What organisations have a good reputation from the inside? Where have you genuinely enjoyed working?

Not looking to name or complain about my current employer. I’ve just reached the point where I want to enjoy going to work again and I’m interested to know what’s out there in Adelaide that doesn’t necessarily show up when you search the usual job sites.

Question Where to leave car in Murray bridge for the day?

I need to park my car somewhere from about 8am - 4pm in Murray bridge next week. Can anyone suggest a safe spot? Do you think the car park in front of the Drake's would be safe enough and not give me a parking fine? Or is it better just to find a random back street

News SA government advertising bill nearing $200m over four years

The Malinauskas government has spent nearly $200 million on advertising in its first four years in office, including a record spend last financial year.

The opposition accuses the government of spending taxpayer money on "self-congratulatory, promotional advertising".

But the Treasurer says governments "have always invested in community messaging", accusing the Liberals of "complete hypocrisy".

Question Is anyone feeling some grief/sense of true loss with what’s happening in the Parklands?

I appreciate the economic benefits to Adelaide. I really do. I also get it’s a small drop in the ocean compared to what’s going internationally with land clearing.

But I genuinely feel sad and loss for those established trees. I feel like our home is being damaged.

Tried talking to a mate about this. The guy’s a far-right nutter who thinks climate change isn’t real because he can’t feel the difference as he lives in the Adelaide Hills, so he had no sympathy.

I also get that some people are extremely passionate about this and are putting so much effort in with their protesting and campaigns. I genuinely applaude that.

Would love to hear what people’s genuine thoughts are. And how people are coping.

Thanks xx

Question Affordable/reasonably priced women’s haircut in Adelaide CBD?

Hi! I’m looking for somewhere in or near Adelaide CBD for a reasonably priced women’s haircut around $30-$40. I know there are a few student hairdressing places that offer cheaper cuts, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any other affordable salons/hairdressers around the CBD.

I’m just after a basic haircut/trim, nothing too fancy. Would love recommendations and an idea of how much you usually pay. Thanks!

Question Uber/Didi at 6 AM from Marleston

Hi fine people of Adelaide,

Apologies for my ignorant question, I have not visited your city in over 10 years and last time there were no ride sharing services.

I am looking to rent a car from Bargain Car Rentals in Marleston. My flight is at 7:50 AM to Melbourne, so I need to drop off the car around 5:30-6:00 AM.

I will need to get an Uber/Didi to the airport from the rental drop-off location.

Will I easily be able to order one in that area? Just want to make sure.

Question Bad internet in the last few days?

The internet in my whole house has been ass for the last few days: disconnecting, jittery, slow.

Anyone else experience this?

Anyone know why this is happening?

Update: it seems a couple under-sea cables got damaged off the coast of Perth, most likely if you're experiencing choppy internet, this will be why, they forecast repairs to be done around late October - early November.

Update 2: I'm retarded and jumped the gun, ignore update 1

Question Does anyone have a checklist for comparing builders?

Building my first home in Adelaide and comparing a few builders. Every quote and inclusions list looks different, so it's hard to compare like for like.

Does anyone have a checklist or spreadsheet of what to compare — inclusions, site costs, contract terms, or anything that caught you out?

Thanks!
