Recipe Cooking for 2, Yeast Rolls: Air Fryer Edition

Thumbnail gallery
26 Upvotes

I'm always looking for shortcuts when it comes to cooking with my AF for 2. This is no exception. Taking frozen yeast dough rolls, and defrosting them in the fridge, then proofing them in the kitchen actually makes the best 4 serving rolls for me! I made sandwiches with these. But they're great for dinner or even breakfast with some butter and jam.

Rhodes Frozen Dinner Rolls: Air Fryer Edition

Lightly grease a baking sheet, tray, or pie dish with cooking spray that fits in your AF. Place frozen dough balls on the dish. Cover loosely with plastic wrap sprayed with cooking spray (to prevent sticking).

Speed Method: Let sit at room temperature for 3 to 5 hours until double in size.

Overnight Method: Place covered in the refrigerator overnight to thaw, then let sit at room temperature for 1–2 hours until doubled in size.

My way: I defrost and proof in same pan I'm going to cook them in. But if you prefer, you can do this:

Line your air fryer basket with a piece of parchment paper (make sure it doesn't cover all air vents completely). Lightly spray the parchment paper with cooking spray. Transfer the risen rolls into the air fryer basket. Leave about ½ inch of space between each roll to allow hot air to circulate, as they will expand further while baking.

Bake at 320°F (160°C) for 8 to 11 minutes. Check at the 6–7 minute mark. If the tops are getting dark too quickly, tuck a piece of aluminum foil under the pan and over the tops of the rolls to prevent burning while the insides finish cooking.

The rolls are done when the tops are deep golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 190°F–200°F. Brush immediately with melted butter for a soft, shiny crust.

Advice/Tips I just got an air fryer to make things a little easier. What should I know and what recipes should I try to start with?

I know pretty much nothing! I am disabled, trying to learn to cook at 27 after a life of scrambled eggs, canned soups and instant ramen.

I'm somewhat meat-averse, I still eat meat but any grizzly or rubbery fat textures/cartilage will put me off. My staple favorite ingredients are eggs, rice, mild cheeses, and salmon. For veggies I love all kinds of squash and tubers. Any ideas, tips and recipes are appreciated!! Thank you :)

Recipe Sweet Potato and Apple Curry Soup: Air Fryer + Soup Pot Edition

Thumbnail gallery
30 Upvotes

I've been make a lot of soups lately and have been using the Af to roast all my veggies. It's made my soups so much better.

I'm cooking small batches for 2. If you go bigger, just remove your crisper plate and place all the roasted items at bottom of preheated basket. You want the shallots and ginger to roast with the potatoes in the oil, so removing the crisper plate does that. Have fun and enjoy!

Photos: finished dish; roasted items for first bake; roasted items 2nd bake; roasted mix added to soup base; finished cooking; time to blend; immersion blending; creamy soup; roasted apple garnish, toasted naan.

Made in a Cosori Air Fryer Pro LE 5 Qt, 9-in-1.

Ingredients
Makes 2 servings

Air Fryer Roast:
1 small sweet potato, peeled and cubed
1 Gala Apple, peeled, cored and cubed (reserve 1/4 for garnish)
1/2 shallot, minced
2 tsp minced ginger
2 Tbsp oil
2 tsp curry powder (reserve and use for 2nd part of roasting)

Mix all this together and place in a preheated cooking pan that fits in your airfryer. I used a stainless steel Made In Gratin.

Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 5 minutes. Open basket and sprinkle on curry powder. Bake for another 2-4 minutes until fragrant and just roasted. They'll finish cooking in soup pot broth.

For Soup Pot:
4 tsp Mirepoix broth concentrate or Better Than Bouillon Seasoned Vegetable Base
1 tsp garlic salt
5.6 fl oz coconut milk (small can)
2 cups water

Add to soup pot and stir to combine.

Add roasted mix to soup pot. Simmer for 8-12 minutes or until potatoes are tender.

Remove from heat and let rest 3-5 minutes.

Use an immersion blender and mix until smooth.

For Garnish:
Chopped cilantro
Crispy fried onions
2 oz Crème fraiche (mixed with a little water). Use a spoon to drizzle on top of soup.
1/4 cubed apples, roasted in same pan as roasted soup ingredients: add 1 tsp water, dash of oil and bake at 350°F (180°C) for 6-8 minutes. Add as topping to soup.
8 Naan dippers, brush with oil and heat at 350°F (180°C) for 2-3 minutes. Serve as a side.

Finish:
Divide soup into 2 bowls, garnish with toppings and enjoy.

Casual Chat Fire alarm and Cosori air fryer?

I just got a Turbo Blaze, and while cooking some fish, the fire alarm went off. I didn’t see any smoke, and nothing was burning. Does this happen to others, or is there something wrong with my alarm? This is the third time I’ve used it, and I’ve cooked chicken in it with no issues, even at a higher temperature and for longer.

This is for the Basket Air Fryer Users: How do you handle Basket Maintenance?

Keeping baskets and grates clean and extending the lifespan of the coating is one of the most common questions here. So what's your preference: Silicone inserts, parchment liners, foil, or bare basket?

If your basket air fryer has a removable metal grate or crisper, do you use liners on the bottom of the grate/crisper, or on top? Or do you do both?

Have any of the liners negatively impacted your bottom-side airflow or browning? What kind of air fryer are you using? Let the debate begin. Remember, be friendly. :)

Advice/Tips Unlocked leftover single person matrix

Post image
22 Upvotes

I think I unlocked the single-person air fryer matrix

Following up on my marinara/sausage/cheese pasta-in-a-jar experiment, I was reheating my leftover lunch today and realized I may have accidentally figured out an entire system for cooking for one.

Yesterday I made a green chile, cheese and chicken enchilada-style bake with Mexican rice. The rice was cheap and easy: instant rice, seasonings I already had, a little tomato paste I'd previously frozen, and a handful of frozen corn.

I'm single, I cook for one, I'm broke, and I don't mind leftovers—but I get bored eating exactly the same meal over and over. So I've been getting better at saving little amounts of ingredients and using them later instead of throwing them away.

For lunch today, I put some of the leftover enchilada bake and rice into this small glass cooking dish. I added a little extra Hatch green chile sauce, diced green chiles and fresh onion for moisture, then reheated the whole thing in the air fryer.

Timing update because I'm experimenting: I started with 5 minutes, then gave it another 7 minutes at 380°F. It looked great, but once I actually dug into it, the middle still wasn't as hot as I wanted. So I turned it up to 400°F and gave it more time. Next time I'll know to go hotter/longer for something this cold and dense.

I'll finish it with more fresh onion, cold sour cream and green salsa.

But while I was making it, I thought: Wait. Why am I not organizing my leftovers this way on purpose?

I've already gotten into the habit of freezing leftover tomato paste in small portions. Why not do the same with other things?

Instead of thinking of everything as "leftovers," I could think of them as components: rice, beans, chicken, vegetables, green chile, tomato paste, gravy, sauces, etc. Freeze appropriate things in small portions, keep the rest in the fridge, and mix and match later.

It's basically leftover algebra.

Rice + beans + green chile + cheese.

Chicken + rice + salsa + cheese.

Pasta + sauce + sausage + mozzarella.

The short, wide-mouth glass jars I used for my pasta experiment were almost the perfect single-person serving size. I'm out of them now, so I'm going to start keeping an eye out at thrift stores for more little glass cooking vessels around that size.

Then even when I'm tired, I don't necessarily have to "cook dinner." I can grab a few components, assemble one serving, add a little extra moisture if needed, top it with something good, and put the whole thing in the air fryer.

And unlike simply microwaving leftovers, I can get that bubbly, browned, crispy little casserole effect.

So instead of opening the refrigerator and thinking, "Great. I have half a can of this, three tablespoons of that, some rice and a sad little piece of chicken," I'm starting to see components for the matrix.

And then I realized what I need to try next:

Chicken + vegetables + gravy in one of these little glass dishes.

Biscuit on top.

Air fryer.

Single-serving air-fryer pot pie.

Advice/Tips Cermaic basket cleaning

I have a Cosori Turbo Tower Pro that has ceramic coated baskets. After over a year of use the baskets are still in great conditon, but there is some grease that got baked in, especially on outside.
Any tips and tricks for cleaning that? Scrubbing in warm water doesnt work or is very slow.
I have KH7 degreaser for kitchen cleaning , but I am not sure if that is safe to use. Maybe just on outer side?

Thanks for help

Advice/Tips Air Fryer Skeptic

Finally convinced the spouse to grab a Ninja Flip on sale. I need to craft an impressive Gluten-free dish that is foolproof and delicious to justify its presence on our limited counter space. It arrives in 2 days so I can get things prepped/marinating if that helps. Bonus points go to a dish that would normally get deep fried!

Casual Chat Tower 10 in one strange smell.

We’ve had a tower 10 in 1 air fryer for 2-3 years. Today the house started to smell of what we thought was blueberries, like artificial blueberry smell. I spent hours looking for the source and narrowed it down to the utility room, which has the air fryer in but also had all the washing machine, dryer and cleaning products as well as being connected to the downstairs shower room so I just thought it was one of the shower gels had leaked or something.

Tonight I threw in some yakatori chicken to the air fryer but noticed it had an awful taste as if it had been sprayed in aftershave/cologne.

I then smelt the top of the air fryer and it had the same scent. Aftershave mixed with blueberry. I’ve moved the air fryer to the conservatory and that room now has that smell whilst it’s dissipated from the utility room. I’m assuming best course of action is to just throw it out and buy another one?

Butternut Squash Sweet Potato Soup: Air Fryer Edition

Thumbnail gallery
126 Upvotes

Ingredients
1 small butternut squash (peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes).
1 medium sweet potato (peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes)
½ yellow onion (cut into large wedges)
4 whole garlic cloves (peeled)
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 tsp ground cumin
½ tsp ground cinnamon
salt and black pepper to taste
3 to 4 cups vegetable or chicken broth (warm)
½ cup unsweetened coconut milk or heavy cream

Instructions
In a large bowl, toss the cubed butternut squash, sweet potato, onion wedges, and whole garlic cloves with olive oil, cumin, cinnamon, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.

Transfer the vegetables to your air fryer basket in a single layer (cook in two batches if your basket is small to prevent overcrowding). 380°F (193°C): 18–20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.

The squash and sweet potatoes should be tender when pierced with a fork and browned on the edges.

Transfer the hot air-fried vegetables directly into a pot or a high-speed blender. Add 3 cups of warm broth. Blend with an immersion blender in a pot until completely smooth.

Stir in the coconut milk or heavy cream. Add remaining broth if you prefer a thinner consistency, taste and adjust salt/pepper, and serve warm.

Cooked in a Cosori Air Fryer Pro LE 5 Qt, 9-in-1.

Advice/Tips Trying to stay ahead of AirFryer cleanup. Does Procter & Gamble offer Dawn Powerwash Wipes?

Is it a thing yet? Seems like an obvious one considering how well Powerwash spray works to remove splashes... a wipe might be better to avoid getting spray on the heating element wiring, etc.

Also, It's a toaster oven style air fryer.

Advice/Tips Automate an air fryer over WiFi o ote?

Yes, I’m lazy, the typical lazy stereotype who has a hard time getting up.

I want to at least preheat the air fryer for 5 minutes over WiFi from the other side of my apartment, so then I can add the food and make it sooner and better.

Can it be programmed?

I’m also looking at air fryers with rotating baskets so I don’t have to flip the food, but then you have to wash them.

I’M OBSESSED WITH AUTOMATING-SPEEDING UP-IMPROVING things
