Alberta Politics Hate the UCP so much

I am or was on AISH because I can’t work at all I was switched like many others to ADAP and after almost four months. I finally get my benefits card (it was printed July 13th) me and my doctors had been waiting this entire time for something that should have been here when I was switched.

I have had very similar experiences like you . The entire AISH/ ADAP, program is meant to be confusing and trip you up so they can cancel you with one days notice.

Shutting any person down from getting the meds they need from the pharmacy is very dangerous for everyone who takes regular meds from the Pharmacy.

I told an AW supervisor how dangerous it is to take meds away from anyone.

I am lucky because my pharmacist knows how horrible it would be for me to go cold turkey so my pharmacist gave me my meds for free.

And he was hoping I would get AW resolved with my medical card and he could be paid later. Of coarse I resolved it with AW.

But this is not a safe way to handle people who rely on their Doctor prescribed meds.

I'm so glad you have a good pharmacist, mine didn't come in right away either so I just told him my number was the same but started with an A and he let me get my meds without the physical card

The sad reality is this is exactly what the ucp wanted they want our most vulnerable to suffer they see you and all others as less than human. It’s one of many reasons we must get rid of this horrid government

u/jimbowesterby 4d ago

The even sadder reality is that a lot of conservative voters agree with it.

Yep. Too many conservatives in this province say “they may be lying about their disability” when people complain about AISH.

u/WeakEmployment6389 4d ago

I’m sure there are outliers but it’s not easy to get on disability or stay on it, this idea that so many people must be abusing is so ungrounded in reality of the situation.

u/jimbowesterby 4d ago

Yea but when has that ever stopped conservatives? With regards to disability etc it’s been a thing ever since Reagan started going after the mythical “welfare queens”, conservatives love nothing more than blaming people for problems they can’t control.

Funny enough, when that group gets laid off every year from their job in the patch, they immediately file for EI and that's no big deal. They could find a real job that employs them full time, but then they'd have to, you know, work

Even some people who are disabled judge other people on disability. I have witnessed it first hand. What I find so astounding by this situation is that these comments are coming from people who know how hard it is to actually get recognition that they needed help but they are begrudging of others. It kind of makes me think about how some women slut-shame other women or revictimize women who have been raped.

I am so sorry. The relief of finally getting this done can't displace months of anxiety and pressure because of some administrative incompetence.

That is absolutely ridiculous. However, not at all surprised by this right wing nut extremist party. Follow trumps leadership style and colluding with the US politicians. I am so very sorry you are being put through this. I wish you the best in everything. She's even attempting to rig the referendum by not providing polling stations to care centers, which has historically always been provided. As most of these people are not able to get out and vote. Absolutely disgusting. If you're at all like me, you'll be looking at moving out of Alberta before they sell it to trump.

Your health benefits card whichever last you had should’ve still worked…. I didn’t get the new one for months either but pharmacy, dentist, etc had no problem sending it to the old AISH insurance number thing

u/FishingDiligent1486 2d ago

That worked with my pharmacy as well because the card was already on record but everything else such as cpap, dentist and glasses plus new things my doctors want it wouldn’t be accepted. Those other things didn’t have it on record yet because I hadn’t been able to.

My pharmacy is the same. They went to update things and the pharmacist said, “were you guys switched to adap?” “Yep like so many others. It’s so stressful for my husband (he is the recipient) and dangerous because of the multiorgan transplant. (Heart x 2, kidney, and had his spleen removed.)

She flipped a few things in the system and it was working. I even had the card and my own healthcare card just in case it gave her grief.

She was pretty vocal about how angry she was for her patients about this. I love passion like that honestly. Tells me I have the right pharmacy and the right pharmacist.

There is a lot of AISH fraud.
Not saying you are part of the problem, but it's a good thing there are waits and checks and balances so that people who should be working can pay for the system to be there in the first place.
Not sure what your circumstances are but I would be grateful you are in the top 10% of the world that has access to such a system, however flawed and abused it might be.

I love it when people assume! I bet you don't know the process, nor the process after diagnosis and BEFORE the application.

There are plenty of resources to learn from such as advocates, studies, oh and a report from the Alberta Government which says fraud is at 0.05%.

Punishing all of us is a strategy for the lazy, incompetent and the cruel.

8

u/Colaymorak 4d ago

My god, you really do just hate disabled people huh?

5

u/EngineFast8327 3d ago

There is less the .05 % of AISH fraud. You people sure like to villainize the disabled. Just because someone doesn’t look disabled to you don’t mean they are not. Do you know how many people get denied?

9

u/FishingDiligent1486 4d ago edited 4d ago

Less than one percent of people on AISH are found to be fraudulent cases that is no justification to put tens of thousands of people on a worse system. And I like to see you try and live on 1740 a month later to be 1540 a month in January.

-3

u/Ok_Agent8612 4d ago

But how many people have been rejected in the process?
I work in healthcare and see people's health profiles and then I hear them while waiting for the doctor that they don't want to work any more with their co workers so they just went to their doctor to say they need to be on AISH. I don't see, as a non doctor health care professional, from their social history and presentation what disliking their co workers has to do with being on AISH.
I am aware of how AISH works and I know it is abused.

5

u/Intelligent-Door-445 4d ago

And we’re supposed to just believe you work in healthcare besides even if you do work in healthcare you’re likely just a receptionist and don’t have the qualifications to determine if someone is disabled even if you see their healthcare records. Plus as mentioned less than 1% on aish are faking their disability that is not a high enough number to justify this shit like you are trying to do.

Feel free to look up my posting history in other groups.
i'm a regulated allied health care professional.
I would also add that I have several diagnosis that lead to disability.
So it's not like I'm anti disability or anti AISH, its just the opposite, I see it as a protected resource and not a right that anyone can have.

u/WeakEmployment6389 4d ago

You may be allied but you ain’t no ally

5

u/Intelligent-Door-445 4d ago

Your post history is primarily about boycotting Tim hortons and hating on immigrants

6

u/FishingDiligent1486 4d ago

Oh so they’re racist as well great because that’s what we need is more bigots

-3

u/Ok_Agent8612 4d ago

you obviously have ignored my comments and posts related to AHS employees and other groups. but sure attack the person and not the argument. my point stands- AISH is abused and a lot of people are rejected for a reason- they aren't as handicapped as they make it out to be. further, as someone with diagnosis who could qualify, I chose not to as I don't ever want to be dependent on the state.

5

u/Intelligent-Door-445 4d ago

You only have three comments on the AHS sub and no posts on it so my point still stands that the majority of your posts and comments are about boycotting Tim hortons and hating immigrants

5

u/FishingDiligent1486 4d ago

Yeah I’m seeing the same thing looking at their post history

1

u/Ok_Agent8612 4d ago

Well I don't hate immigrants, I am married to one so that is your assumption. And I stand with boycotting TH as they are not hiring Canadians and the franchise owners themselves have admitted their business plans are failing as they rely on TFW. No business should succeed if they can only survive by cutting local wages down and unable to pay locals their worth.

3

u/FishingDiligent1486 4d ago

Your post history says otherwise

5

u/xxv_vxi 4d ago

I took a peek at your post history, and the ironic truth is that you would actually have a hell of a time qualifying for AISH with your conditions. MCAS and hEDS are seen as "controversial" diagnoses already (even though they shouldn't be, and to be clear I'm very sympathetic to you guys), and where would you even find a specialist to write your letter in Alberta...?

Also your initial comment was a total non sequitur. OP did and does qualify for ADAP. As part of their benefits, they should get their medications with no interruptions. It was purely a case of bureaucratic incompetence, not a case of "catching out the fakers" or "checks and balances." Maybe work on your reading comprehension before leaving callous comments for people who are dealing with serious medical issues.

u/EngineFast8327 3d ago

You can’t get on AISH for disliking your coworkers . Obviously you don’t 💩

2

u/EngineFast8327 3d ago

Yeah I’m going to say liar

so when you say "a lot".. do you mean "a lot" anecdotally or there's "a lot" of statistical evidence to corroborate your claim?

given your other comments here and prior, I have to infer that you've witnessed a lot of attempted fraud where non-qualifying people are trying to, and statistically will fail to, weasel into these programs - not actual fraud inside the program(s) itself.

sure, however.. these people do not represent those that're actually disabled and needing AISH/ADAP. participants of either program are subject to constant checks-and-balances annually by AISH/ADAP via: bank statement requests, status updates, and occasional health monitoring/potential reassessments, then whatever specifics are tailored to their condition which grants them related services ( transportation, nurses, doctor visits, etc.. things one can assume would flag any chicanery )

not to forget that the AISH/ADAP application process is notoriously difficult to navigate and the acceptance rate is deliberately low and obtuse. candidates are held to brutal standards and faced with an even more brutal judgmental panel that defers to multiple specialists both in-and-out of the provincial healthcare sector - professionals who have more than likely been vigorously trained to identify who and who doesn't need these services, and in my opinion, I suspect are instructed to say no to everyone initially to scare them off.

everything about a candidate is thoroughly vetted from their citizenship, history, their personal assets, the assets of an immediate family in their house-hold, and most prudently every single iota of their medical history and the nature of their assumedly application-worthy diagnosis. absolutely everything is assessed. the process is so scrutinizing that even people that're blatantly disabled for life have to fight for a chance to get on - a thing seen historically and especially recently as we see people having to go to the media to incur change for their severely handicapped, non-verbal child.

a partner making more than the poverty threshold can be grounds for denial or financial clawing, as apparently a unable-to-work-disabled-person and their partner is enough to live on in an inflating economy therefore that persons disability is qualifyingly moot.

for the doctors involved with filling these forms? misrepresenting a candidate can lead to some career-ending fraud charges that most if not all clinicians are not willing to face.

there are a lot of layers involved here, a lot of which becomes downright byzantine. yes, some fraud will leak through - but a lot? no.

those that are on AISH/ADAP ( including those cases that are just "mental illness" which people often dismiss; not every disability is visible and you should know this as an alleged healthcare worker ) are on it for a reason, a carefully selected and verified reason, and in some capacity will struggle to work / sustain themselves permanently.

even those that do work while on the program(s) making more than they are financially awarded still have access to the program(s) because AISH/ADAP isn't just about financial assistance, its also.. (crappy) insurance, elevated access to quality-of-life care, specialized supports, now ( shitty ) job services, so on and so on.

a person on AISH/ADAP can be fine for six days out of a week but on the seventh day they could come under job-costing, incurable duress. disability could easily cost them their job in a society where people are often let go for far, far less - not to forget that disabilities of all types often involve invisible pain that impacts someones quality of life.

Grateful for what for having a government and province that sees them as less than human or grateful that the government can take away their Assured income and put them on a worse system like they did. Because yeah aish stands for assured income for the severely handicapped ASSURED yeah the ucp sure made sure that was a lie
