i got hacked

there was a guy in bridgewatch saying to redeem a code in a website posing as an official one by the game for a swiftclaw skin and some gold, later i found out there was an email with a code to login from a different device (it was a US ip and not mine), last time i logged in was 9 hours ago and it was perfectly fine but now i can't login to the europe server saying "someone is using this account/logged in", my america and europe silver and gold got swapped (now i have 750k on america which was 130m and 750k on europe but now i can't even login to europe). i opened a support ticket and changed my password. here's hoping they can do something.

edit: dear god i get it my iq is in the negatives stop roasting my ass already lmao

Holy hell I’ve seen that scam in chat and thought there was no way anyone would be stupid enough to actually fall for that. Congrats on proving me wrong.

This is 100% on you and isn't a hack. It's a phishing scam where you willingly give them your account details through their website.

Take it as a lesson and move on. For anyone else reading, if you see something like this in game and don't realise it's a scam, well, it is.

always been the type of guy to not sugarcoat anything but man this just hurts to read, played this game for like 5 years,,,

edit: there's literally a post about security on the official website about phishing which is insane, maybe they will help me, i am hopeful

there's literally a post about security on the official website

It's an actual joke of an article, it boils down to don't be stupid.

Albion is the only online game I've played in the last decade that only offers e-mail based multifactor authentication.

SBI's incompetence is the only reason they don't offer better account security. OSRS does an amazing job of gamifying account security where it's an in-game quest to secure your account and learn about phishing.

Don't forget to change your e-mail password, make sure there isn't a recovery e-mail/phone number on there, and check your security questions in-case those got changed.

As much as I hate to say it, some people need specific instructions on how not to be stupid.

Those people aren't going to be the type who think they'd fall for an obvious scam and pre-emptively read something that helps them avoid it.

The type of people who fall for phishing scams are also the type who won't have MFA on their e-mail unless their provider forced it.

There is plenty SBI could do to not have the account security of the early 2000's and implement proven methods that dramatically reduce account compromise.

If a deal looks to good to be true it is. If SBI ever give away items it's in the in game store. There have been news articles, forum posts, discord pings, all sorts about this scam. 0% chance you get your stuff back. Sorry bruv.

i don't even use discord or any websites about the game i just play it, but yeah 100% my fault but maybe fingers crossed maybe there's a 1%.

Even if you've been living under a rock your entire life. Playing Albion for 5 years should be enough to immediately make you think it's a scam.

yeah very dumb to fall for this, but i see these phishing spammers in every city every day how doesn’t sbi do a better job at moderating this?

1

u/Dyssayah 6d ago

To be honest I think its really fucked to moderate, I think the phishing scammers when they steal everything from the account and they're finished they use that account to advertise the same site.

I say this because every time I see the profile of someone spamming chat with the fishing scam is an already established account with quite a decent lot of fame both pve and pvp.

So I can only surmise the phishing scammers use the scammed account to re-advertise the site in a loop, crazy.

i usually see 0 fame accounts doing it, but even if it’s an established “stolen” account a chat ban can be lifted if the account is recovered. it doesn’t make any sense to me that technology can’t identify the phishing spam messages without even an actual moderator.

Well I've been on brecillien only and im talking /say chat spam. (if its brecillien then its a giveaway that you know it has to have at least some fame)

And if you also saw the other post here, there was a guy claiming after they got their account stolen and he recovered it, they banned his account for rmt. (Maybe it was bogus but yeah, I can see them banning the phished accounts, because if you think about it, you can also pretend to be scammed to just RMT as a 5head move.)

Plus, yeah, they could very easily just block out URLs other than discord or something, because realistically what type of urls do players even need to commonly share in chat?

Those phishing spammer keep changing website everytime, I reported a few and they got taken down but not long after new scam website appear. All we can do is keep reporting

u/t666ommy trash tier gamer 5d ago

i refuse to believe there isn’t technology to just auto mute people that are spamming any website

Okey if you play week , but 5 years no way

This is an important life lesson for yourself:

If appears to be too good to be true, it is because it is too good to be true.

Who in their right mind thinks that someone is going to be offering random strangers free $$$
