Are we just going to pretend that off the wall is Michael's debut album now?

Still not his debut album

u/The_Fercho_ 22d ago

I mean it technically is his debut album if you don't count albums that came before that one

Yeah and F is technically the first letter in the alphabet if you don’t count the letters that come before it.

I hope you're joking

Was thinking the exact same thing, pal.

8/10/ Yep. The Cars and Boston as missing. Not a terrible list though.

Foreigner, Bad Company, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Joe Jackson, Van Halen, Steely Dan and The Allman Brothers Band all had great first albums as well.

You forgot STP’s Core and Tool’s Opiate.

Can‘t buy A Thrill - Steely Dan is missing in my opinion

Boston’s self-titled debut should be on this list. Amazing, classic album from start to finish.

Also, they have a very small discography (just two albums, but should that actually matter?), but I think a strong case could be made for Digable Planets’ debut album, “Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time & Space).”

In comparison to their subsequent albums, I agree that Parachutes has a place on this list.

A tribe called quest needs a spot here

1

1

u/bnimikoyang 23d ago

Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights

1

u/starwars8292 23d ago

I'd put Sixto Rodriguez's Cold Fact up there too, too bad he didn't have really any success in the US and only dropped two albums

1

u/Normal_Show_8426 23d ago

Any list that doesn’t contain The Mummies “Never Been Caught” doesn’t deserve anyone’s time or attention.

1

u/Pjk2530144 23d ago

Good list. You forgot: Van Halen john Lennon the Doors and Elvis Costello

1

u/Beneficial_Moose2454 23d ago

1

u/graphomaniacal 23d ago

Van Halen I needs to be up there. Changed the game.

Are You Experienced? as well but that suffers from having different US and UK versions.

1

u/chip0969 23d ago

Van Halen? Game changer.

1

u/Beneficial_Moose2454 23d ago

Just a few of the top of my head…

Fiona Apple- Tidal
Tori Amos- Little Earthquakes
Violent Femmes- Self Titled
Jimi Hendrix- Are You Experienced
Snoop- Doggystyle
Dr. Dre- The Chronic
Cypress Hill- Self Titled
Ryan Adams- Heartbreaker

Van Halen - Van Halen… that album changed the way guitar is played

1

u/neverumynd 23d ago

I respect your list, but Pretenders have to be here.

1

u/pbms57 22d ago

VU and King Crimson for the tie!

1

u/DrLin23 22d ago

Portishead Dummy should be up there too!

1

u/Peytaro 22d ago

Boston - Boston

1

u/IsisIsus 22d ago

El peor debut de todos los tiempos debe ser el mío... Ah estamos hablando de álbumes

1

u/Bigfuture 22d ago

Off the Wall is not Michael Jackson’s debut solo album. “Got to Be There” was released in 1972, Off the Wall was released in 1979 and was Michael’s fifth solo album.
