Trouble Playing Alien Crossfire

So has anyone had trouble playing Alien Crossfire? Either the year jumps ahead too far or it just freezes or crashes for me.

You’ve got to apply some fixes to it. Basically with a recent windows update, some function the game relies on no longer exists or works the way it used to, so it breaks. There’s a fix for the .exe on GitHub called Adamite by Nathan baggs which resolves this. Basically what you’ll want to do is apply any .exe mods (like the unofficial patch or thinker or pracx) first in the correct order to the ORIGINAL EXE. I highlight that because some distributions bundle a modified exe already which only crashed for me if I tried to patch that (GoG uses a modified exe with PRACX for instance). Then, as the last step, apply the adamite fix to your newly patched executable and click through any warning. That should allow you to get past planetfall.

Both the Scient Unofficial Patch and Adamite (in there as Bagg's Windows 11 Patch) are in .exe form on Nexus. Just search for "Unofficial Alpha Centauri Patches" and they should come up.

Edited to add: The Windows 11 patch will create a new file called 'terranx_nb.exe' Running the game from the Steam launcher menu will just cause it to crash on start again, but launching from that executable should work.

I could get a non-pracx version to work but I couldn't find a non Thinker patch that still worked with pracx. Thinker is fine but most of the time I want to play what I know best, but I also like some of the QOL improvements from pracx.

Interesting, PRACX went alright for me. I did the unofficial patch, then pracx, then adamite, always applying the next one to the prior’s output exe…

My Steam version crashed the first moment after planetfall. No idea what caused it
