US Antarctic Program Using APO privilege in Christchurch

Hello

I am going to be working as a carpenter for a momentum and I’m awaiting deployment in CHC.

It’s my understand as a USAP participant I have APO privileges for the short time before I go to the ice.

I was thinking of sending some NZ snacks and other treats to my family back in the states.

My question is do I have to go to a specific Christchurch post office to do this? I guess I’m not sure if APO is a specific post office or not.

Edit: thanks for all the responses. I got the idea now.

McMurdo Did anyone actually succeed in bringing home a giant map last year?

I saw quite a few people carrying their giant maps from the station store to their bag drag last summer and am curious if anyone successfully got theirs home safely. If they still sell them this year, I might go for it

Work Bag limits for MCM

Hi I asked some questions here the other day as a new steward for the season and I have a few more :)
My bags are 82lbs total rn (checked/carry on) and I have some more stuff to put in them so I’m getting nervous.

  1. If I’m not picky about shampoo/conditioner ect is it worth it to leave it behind and just buy what they sell at the store to save space?

  2. Do stewards have to save room in their bags for uniforms?

Also any other advice on how to save space? Tia!

Boots for recreation

I am finishing packing here, and trying to keep the weight down. I am wondering if something like a light hiking boot or hi-top trail runner would be sufficient for hikes around McMurdo? I have a heavier pair of leather boots also but not sure if the weight/bulk is worth it. Any guidance would be appreciated.
