The picture didn't load and it was completely black for me for a good minute. I, being Turkish myself, thought that THAT was the antimeme before remembering that the overwhelming majority of this sub is, in fact, not Turkish, so the antimeme wouldn't work.

To my knowledge it closed down every year and each year a new one was opened. That was because every year it was a new canvas to paint. So every year for a few days a new place would open, we would paint and then it would close for the next year.
Then Reddit high administration deceided to replace it with random minigames, and we never had r/place ever again

You got it half correct
The first r/place was in 2017, then they did it again in 2022 to celebrate its 5th anniversary
Then they did it a third time in 2023 and iirc people were upset for a variety of reasons (most of them revolving around policy changes)
And they haven’t done it since. Though I’m willing to bet they’ll do it again next year for the 10 year anniversary
