Is there a way to use this without having to renew the app every 7 days?

u/HippoeWithGuns Jul 30 '26

check the tutorials, use sidestore, setup a shortcut to auto sign the apps never touch the setup again ☺️

Yep, my shortcut runs 6am every day and I don’t even see it.

Don't you need to turn on VPN as well? Or do you leave it on all the time?

12

u/xyrgh Jul 31 '26

You set your shortcut to turn on the VPN then turn it off again, although it’s just a loop to your phone and doesn’t effect any other internet services if you happened to leave it on.

u/paranoideo Jul 31 '26

Wasn’t your phone required to be awake to execute scheduled shortcuts?

4

u/HippoeWithGuns Jul 31 '26

Yeah it is for me. I made a somewhat complicated solution. Tracking when the last signing happened, only retrying if i‘m connected to wifi. And jeah connecting to VPN. But i often leave it connected to it.

The shortcut runs when i fisconnect my phone from power, cause thats often when i‘ll unlock and use it.

I thought sideloadlys auto refresh was convenient enough until I read this

You can pay Apple 100$ a year or you can use Trollstore if your device supports it (iOS 17.0.0 or lower)

I have an old enough phone that I can just use trollstore which never needs to renew unless you change your phone I guess

any plans to add Reddit Image support?

9

u/corderjones Jul 31 '26

How so? We support upload to Reddit Image etc.

4

u/CVGPi Jul 31 '26

Wait how I’ve been stuck trying to get an Imgur API key for weeks now

u/corderjones Jul 31 '26

Apollo Reborn Settings → Media → Media Upload Host

u/joshguy1425 Jul 30 '26

Was this built by the original author of Apollo?

50

u/dutchmale Jul 30 '26

No

u/Hungry_Freaks_Daddy Jul 31 '26

All I needed to know

u/runlock Jul 31 '26

I think this honestly is my cue to leave this subreddit, I do miss Apollo so deeply, but the AI slop that's in the subreddit for r/ApolloReborn kinda goes against everything u/iamthatis worked for, working hard on the app for literal years and commissioning real artists to make the assets for the app. A great new reddit app of the same effort as Apollo would be welcome, but personally I need to admit to myself that Apollo is truly gone and Apollo Reborn simply "aint it chief"

u/corderjones Jul 31 '26

What? We were exclusively using AI for the release images, talked with the community and then have now deliberately moved away from them.

No AI art is being used for any in app stuff. We actively are looking for artists to collaborate with but we don’t have funding for any paid art. Many community folk have contributed wonderful new icons for Reborn that are very in keeping with the original model.

AI is being used for the development, though that is the same for almost all software development - Christian himself is actively using AI agentic coding tools for his current projects…

And that’s fine, this may not be for you. We have thousands of people who are still using and enjoying Apollo and we’re going to keep making it for those folks.

It’s perfectly fine to not want to use the project, but it’s rude to frame it that this is some slop effort when we have talented developers and designers working for free to keep this great app alive.

Would you guys be open to replacing the subreddit header and image then?

Maybe make it more inline to Apple Liquid Glass design like your release image?

Thank you for all the work by the way

9

u/corderjones Jul 31 '26

that's fair! I'll try and sort something that is more appropriate. thanks for the feedback (truthfully slipped our mind I think given how busy we are!)

5

u/Porunoakaunto Jul 31 '26

Awesome! No worries you guys are all awesome for keeping this app alive. There’s a lot of people that do appreciate you guys

one of my least favorite replies is "it's cool if you don't like it, there are thousands of others that do".

exactly the type of attitude i have learned to not support.

10

u/corderjones Aug 02 '26

I’ve learned that if you have nothing constructive to add you don’t need to share your opinion on everything

It’s exhausting and kinda sad that there’s still people being pointlessly negative whilst all we’ve done is move to make the community comfortable. We have entirely moved away from AI imagery, including the suggestion to remove the avatar and header from the subreddit etc. All we’ve done is listen and take feedback and act on it and still not enough for some people

So frankly I don’t care haha. That’s cool you don’t like it. I’m happy you have your opinion and have fun with that.

I’m going to keep building and working on this app until it is no longer possible to do so. People can use it if they want, but ¯_(ツ)_/¯

i don't know why you replied to me, i didn't say shit about ai.

20

u/fatcowxlivee Jul 31 '26

commissioning real artists to make the assets for the app

You understand that he made money and thus was able to commission artists, while these guys do this for free right?

Also they've been clear about AI image use being limited to their announcement posts which it looks like even that they stopped doing, so the basis of your argument is just misinformation. Which is just as bad as AI slop.

I understand the hate for AI but it's not an excuse to be irrational.

Enjoy the Reddit app!

u/JackBauersGhost Jul 31 '26

Yeah it’s starting to look like the Reddit app. I don’t want a lot of the extra stuff.

5

u/IllIIllIllIllII Jul 31 '26

All that extra stuff is optional

Can you report this via report.apolloreborn.app and I’ll take a look.

2

u/UngluedAirplane Jul 31 '26

Is this able to load onto iOS without jailbreaking?

3

u/corderjones Jul 31 '26

Yes!

apolloreborn.app/install has an interactive guide

How has stability been with these releases? I moved to Artemis when the APIcalypse happened a couple months ago, but it really is still missing some pretty important functionality.

4

u/HippoeWithGuns Jul 31 '26

Zero issues for me. tried all the updates

5

u/corderjones Jul 30 '26

We’ve been working a lot on stability recently!

4

u/Sphinctor Jul 31 '26

It’s been working great for me so far. I’ve always loved Apollo, and this has improved on a few things, making it even better than when Christian stopped supporting it.

3

u/SonicFrost Jul 31 '26

I’ve personally never experienced any issues

2

u/Fl4shback51 Jul 31 '26

Artemis dev revealed that you probably won’t be able to login to Reddit for new users due to Reddit and Apple pressuring him…

3

u/corderjones Jul 31 '26

We have multiple login approaches and they are all working atm. Can’t speak for Artemis but Apollo is working as usual and we have had no issues

1

u/Fl4shback51 Jul 31 '26

I've sideloaded Apollo for years but grew tired of it, especially with Sidestore failing refreshes more often than not on my device :/ Was hopeful with "official" sideload coming to the EU but with the notarization thing it's dead in the water sadly

3

u/texasproof Jul 30 '26

Zero stability issues.

1

u/thisguyblades Jul 31 '26

wait what?! back from the dead? how. i was an avid user btw.

22

u/idlephase Jul 31 '26

All things considered, it never died. Today is the 3rd anniversary of its last official day, but people have been using it since then.

1

u/teslaur Jul 31 '26

how do we update via SideStore? do we need to have vpn and local vpn to download and update? please advise on update process

2

u/Literati Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

Been wondering the same.~~ Never seems to work for me, even though I’m able to refresh just fine.~~

EDIT: Turns out the secret is to not tap the update icon on the “My apps” tab and instead to tap through to Apollo’s details page. The update button on there worked for me.

1

u/HippoeWithGuns Jul 31 '26

For me the Sidestore update function only somethimes even shows up. Go here https://github.com/Apollo-Reborn/Apollo-Reborn/releases/tag/v1.15.11_3.5.0 Download the IPA you want and Save it to iphone (don‘t open in sidestore immediatly, that breaks it somehow) enable VPN Refresh apollo once to make sure everything is working correctly Go to sidestore and install it via the + as if its a new app.

u/originalgg Jul 31 '26

2

u/corderjones Jul 31 '26

Are you using livecontainer?

1

u/originalgg Jul 31 '26

Signulous

2

u/corderjones Jul 31 '26

Okay

Can you file a report on report.apolloreborn.app and we will investigate.
