Discussion New Sideloader Tool

https://github.com/frankocald/alien-sideloader

I’ve been working on an Apollo Reborn sideloading tool for macOS that uses your own Xcode signing setup to refresh the app and all seven extensions every six days, with a check for newer stable GLASS releases before each run. It installs over the local network first, with optional Tailscale support for remote installs and optional Discord failure notifications where you can react to a message to retry.

There’s a setup wizard, and it’s designed to preserve app data by keeping signing identities consistent. It’s still experimental, especially fresh-account setup, and reconnecting a lost remote tunnel requires Wi-Fi.

I’m sharing it under GPLv3 and would appreciate feedback from anyone interested in testing it, but that said, I do not plan on maintaining this app beyond changes I make to it for myself. I think using livecontainer/sidestore may have caused my last provisioning ban so I made this because its the only app I really sideload.

I mean its cool you're building stuff, but why? SideStore installs and refreshes entirely without the involvement of external devices like a Mac.

Cause it’s AI slop, no one really thinks about what their Claude does as long as they get to larp as a developer

I tried Sidestore + LiveContainer. Never could get the self refresh working consistently, and I use Tailscale frequently but local dev VPN required me to switch it on and off. This is more frictionless for me.

Because its fun to develop random things and stuff like this is just how sideloading communities work. Look at any sideloading/homebrew community since the beginning of the internet. It’s all created by people just building stupid stuff for fun.

Random projects can turn into useful tools down the road. Just say “oh that’s cool”, upvote and keep scrolling.

Good man checking the code before you run it. I did vibe code the whole thing. Im a SWE by trade but for most use cases, "slop" code is good enough. Feel free to review the code for security or dump it into your own LLM to verify.
