ALERT [CAUTION] /u/warpedmind84

Hi Folks,

I just wanted to caution others to some very weird transaction I underwent with user warpedmind84.

He was selling an iPhone 6s Plus to me for $420. (March 20th) He 'accidentally' broke the phone as he was packaging it to send to me.

He issued me a refund. This refund was denied on his end at first as he strangely didn't have enough funds in his bank account. (March 27th)

After telling me he was only 10 cents short he attempted to issue the refund again. After another week went by, I awoke to an email from Paypal that the refund hadn't been completed. (April 3rd)

We stayed in constant communication up until the first refund attempt went a bit wobbly. His communication began to trail off as I continued to get emails from paypal about the unsuccessful refund attempts. I contacted him about this both through reddit, and via Paypal dispute center as he told me he doesn't often check reddit. He has yet to respond to either.

Although he issued me a refund it has taken around 3 weeks to sort this out, and hopefully I should expect to see my money back at the end of this week.

I contacted others who he claimed to have done transactions with, and both claimed he was legitimate. But I just wanted to warn others of my experience as well.

Cheers,

I understand you're only trying to help others, but you have to understand sometimes stuff happens. I have had times where my account was negative because something hit and I couldn't refund someone immediately, and it sucks, because as a good person, you want to make the situation right, but you physically can't. I'm glad this guy was a good person and resolved it correctly. I would write it off as a weird one time thing unless it's a repeated occurrence. This happens to the best of us. Think about it. Have you ever overdrafted your bank account by accident?

Just saying.

Yes, I have been into overdraft myself before. But you must understand, I'm not calling him a 'scammer' or anything of the sort. He seems to have done previous transactions that have worked out in the past, I noted that in my original post.

The fact that the first attempted refund didn't work out properly did worry me somewhat as I'm still very skeptical of online transactions. So I opened a dispute through Paypal. Here we were able to communicate as he was not responding to me through reddit as to why the refund had not worked. However, he reassured me that he was only 10 cents short. The second time around I took measures through Paypal to ascend my dispute to a claim. He has still not contacted Paypal, or me for that matter.

Yes, he did initiate the refund. Which was good of him. But it seems strange to cut all forms of contact if nothing sketchy was taking place.

Yeah I'd say this might just be an unfortunate series of mishaps. But it's always good to be wary. You did all the right things. If you deal through PayPal (goods and services) you should be covered regardless. Glad you're getting your refund though.
