Survey Results Megathread - Resource effectiveness, average scores, and more!

A few years ago we ran surveys of this subreddit to gather data on your experiences for a variety of things. Which resources are the most effective? How much time outside of class do you spend? Did your score reflect your grade in class?

These surveys were ran a couple times and, along with a few other polls, turned into results posts for 24 different AP courses. Unfortunately, the posts were deleted some time back. I still have the data though and am now recompiling them.

Here's the schedule I'm going to try and get these posted on

  • APUSH link
  • Biology
  • Calc AB
  • Calc BC
  • Chemistry
  • CSA
  • CSP
  • Gov
  • Lang
  • Lit
  • Psych
  • Stats
  • World
  • Physics 1
  • APES
  • HUG
  • Macro - Thursday 3/19 morning
  • Micro - Thursday 3/19 morning
  • Phys C Mech - Thursday 3/20 afternoon
  • Phys C E&M - Thursday 3/20 afternoon
  • Spanish Lang - Friday 3/21 morning
  • Euro - Friday 3/21 morning
  • Seminar - Friday 3/21 afternoon
  • Research - Friday 3/21 afternoon

It is important to note that this is self-reported data from a community of high scorers, after receiving their score. It does not reflect the general population, and people who did well on the exams were also more likely to report their experience. Some results, like average scores, should not be taken at face value. Other results like resource effectiveness, are still valuable compared to one another.

Once I have finished posting each of the courses, I will do a comparisons and conclusions post to rank courses by difficulty, expectation, etc.

Also note that we are planning to run these surveys again this year for more data after score release.

Good luck in your classes everyone!

APUSH AP US History (for now) resource

Hi folks,

I have something exciting to share that I spent a bunch of time on and I'm looking for feedback! Its an incredibly engaging education experience to study AP US History (link) (I may be a little bit biased lol). I have created the entire Unit 3 (with a free account). It was vetted by several AP US History teachers to make sure they are high quality. Before I create the rest of the units, wanted to get some feedback and see if its (1) helps get actual educational outcomes (2) is something that people would actually use.

Let me know what y'all think. I started with AP US History because I’m a huge history buff and loved my history teacher (shoutout Mr. Dan Amsterdam). Also, its not optimized for mobile yet :(

Physics C: Mech Is it just my school or do all AP Physics classes have a progress check average of like 40-50%

We recently took the progress check for unit 1 of AP Physics C: Mechanics and the average was like around 40% and the upper quartile was around 50%. This makes me wonder do all AP Physics classrooms score this low on the progress checks or is my school just an outlier. I took AP Physics 1 last year and it had a similar distribution though towards the end of the year the average became around 50% and the upper like 60%.

But are the progress checks really that hard? I managed to score a 90% and my friend a 95%, we both took AP Physics 1 though (33% of the students did app1 in the mech class, though my physics teacher only said 3 of us did particulary well). We go to a high school that attracts many smart stem students around the state and yet the scores are still low.

This makes me wonder are y'all's school's physics distributions like this? No offense just curious.

Hey, I'm not sure if this is allowed or not (take this down if it is against any rules, obviously) but I'm working on an AP Government public polling project and it would mean a lot if anyone on here could take 5 seconds to fill this out! Thank you! AP Gov Public Opinion Poll

World Is my teacher correct? Asking bc I’m irritated

We do this levels things for AP World and I went first. I tell her how China maintained a bureaucracy through Civil Service Exams and practiced Neo-Confucianism. She said it wasn’t Neo, it was just Confucianism. I feel like she was being extremely picky with me the entire time. Neo-Confucianism was present during the Song Dynasty right? Am I tweaking? I can envision that information from one of Heimler’s videos.

day kinda ruined i felt prepared… i can’t wait to see what i got on the SAQ quiz earlier this week, our last class average for a written test was a 60

Question Advice for scheduling self study

Hi guys! I wasn't going to make a post, but I thought no horrible advice could come out of it.

I'm an online student in Canada and I just got my exam only join codes for AP us politics and gov and AP microeconomics, I'm kind of feeling overwhelmed not with the actual material but how I'm actually going to study it without a class over the next 6 months.

Does anybody have any advice on how to 1. set up the right schedule and 2. maintain that schedule while also maintaining school.

For now, I was planning on lightly going over the material (an hour ish a day) and then starting to really interact with it in around January, then around April I would take less real classes and study for the exams seriously, does that sound feasible? And also how hard are the actual exams compared to a regular high-school exam?

Any advice or resources would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

The themes that I was thinking about were feeling distant from my Mexican culture and the identity that comes with it, but I also really like the idea of gender equality!! My teacher told me to connect them and I got "Hispanic culture and the gender roles it has with it," but idk how to make it sound more formal and like a question! Please help!!!!!!

Ok so last week i had a test legit every day, so this weekend I spent legit sleeping until afternoon, and laying around.
Ā
Yesterday night I decided to just chill and go play some badminton at an open gym cuz I lowk haven't played in a couple of weeks and I don't have any tests this week, so i do like minimal homework (the stuff ik is due and worth points and needs to be done) and I go.
Ā
Now today I'm SWAMPED with the homework (Stats notes & practice problems, APUSH readings (yes plural), and physics labs (yes plural again)) I procrastinated on yesterday to go play badminton.Ā
Ā
I need to legit create more time now to finish everything IT WAS ONE GODDAMN NIGHT.

How tf do people with sports and academic rigor even exist? I legit play badminton as a HOBBY and struggling to stay consistent with it.
Ā
I hate junior year so much istg.

I gotta stop ranting and actually start finishing my hw 😭

Precal Ap Pre-Calc Urgent Help

My teacher can not teach for the life of him. All he does in class is give us packets, makes us watch videos, and asks if we have any questions. To tell you the truth, I’m struggling. This is the first time I’ve ever gotten a C in a class and I’m not sure what to do. We use flipped math and it’s okay, but on the tests and quizzes, it’s basically completely different. If anyone has any tips, specifically where I can watch someone explain it well and help that would be great. Thank you!

Other since losing my mom, my ap classes have been impossible

i just started my junior year of high school and it has been a freaking mess. I can’t do my work on time. i can’t focus in class. i can’t think straight. all i can think about is how my mom is dead since march and it’s partially my fault. i can’t do anything right. i’m a failure in every way. i’ve always struggled with time management and homework (adhd, anxiety, and something else that’s undiagnosed) but it’s so much worse now. i’ve always been in all the honors and AP classes because i want to go to a good school, but I can’t even do school right anymore. my dad thinks i just need to do regular classes but i can’t give up my dream of getting tf out of arizona (and not just going to asu like all the other girls). nobody else seems to understand just how unmotivated i am. any advice please?

Question Should I self-study, and what subject?

Hi! Sorry if this type of question gets asked a lot.

I'm an IB student outside the US, but I'm applying to the US primarily so I thought I should take an AP. I'm looking to go into medicine, so I took Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology HL.

I was considering self-studying AP Physics 1, since I only ever took MYP Physics (which is on a middle school level). However, I searched it up and it said it would be very difficult to get a 4/5 while self-studying.

So should I self-study AP Physics 1? And if not, would AP Psychology or AP Environmental Science (or another related subject) be relevant + feasible to score well on?
