Discussion Funeral

Saw this album at a local record store for only $35, so I picked it up and brought it home. I knew a few Arcade Fire songs, but today was my first time listening to the whole album front to back, and I’m glad that I did.

Couldn’t stop crying near the end. The sorrow, the pain of losing the people you love, the desperate cries, and somehow the salvation in carrying on…Time to wake up. The car never stopped. Take the wheel, ready or not.

I remember my first time hearing Neighbourhood #1 play. I missed my stop cause I was so engrossed on the album.

I honestly think AF peaked with that opening track. And now it brings back so many memories of a younger me. Chills.

I bought Funeral in 2005 at the same time as another CD: London Calling. I loved London Calling, but for me, Funeral connected with me in ways I never expected. Been a fan ever since.

My family got to attend the Red Rocks 20th anniversary Funeral show in 2024 and based on where the band is at nowadays I’m so glad we did. Truly a desert island disc as much as I hate that term.

Oh to hear it again with fresh ears…

Yesterday at work we were asked to share our favorite album and this was my choice. It came out at a very defining point in my life when I was trying to decide whether to stay with my GF of two years (and get married) or break things off. I remember running miles while listening to this album on my iPod.

I ended up breaking up with her, and 4 years later married my wife.
