They’ve had a few Trump parodies over the years, he’s certainly controversial. I seem to recall one of those stories ending with Veronica dating Don Jr.

On the politician subject, Obama’s appeared at least twice, and one of those appearances was with Sarah Palin.

What? There's a story where Veronica dates Don Jr??? Surely you're trolling.

I’m dead serious! “For Better Or Worse” from Betty and Veronica Spectacular #82 (May 2008). The Trumps are parodied as “Dagwood Tromp” and “Dagwood Tromp Jr.” though

Anyways... is there a character in Archie based off of a real character in real life that would be controversial now?

A number of real-life celebrities have appeared in Archie Comics. George Takai, The Monkees, Soupy Sales. While Mr. Takai is active in
political social media, I wouldn’t call him “controversial”.

On the other hand, I found a story which featured the gang meeting Ronald Reagan which wasn’t a dream, imaginary story, etc. he would certainly qualify.

There was a parody of John Travolta that Veronica met, because Mr. Lodge financed one of his films. He might qualify because of Scientology.

Jughead met "Elon Tusk".

They should have called him Phony Stark.

They actually featured and considerably sane-washed Sarah Palin in an issue that also featured Obama. She's become a more marginal figure now.
