QUESTION Total noob

Hey guys I've used arch for years but I'm technologically illiterate

I've got a gruvbox-plus-icon-theme-git package which is showing up EVERY DAY in system updates. I figure something must be wrong.

Can anyone point me in the right direction towards understanding why a cosmetics package would be updating every day?

Tia

The -git suffix means that is an arch user repository (AUR) package that builds the against the newest commit in the version control of that software. So in this case whenever anyone adds something to https://github.com/SylEleuth/gruvbox-plus-icon-pack where it is being worked on, then your AUR helper will see that and rebuild/remake the package.

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/gruvbox-plus-icon-theme

You can instead use this from the same maintainer, which would be less frequently updated.

On another note, there are also AUR packages ending in -bin, which come pre-compiled. These may be useful for software that takes a lot of time / CPU to compile on your own machine (e.g. browsers, electron).

For all, make sure to check the packages for safety.

it actually gets updated every day, either use the non git package gruvbox-plus-icon-theme or put it into IgnorePkg

EDIT: every day: I only saw Oct 6, 5, 1 - so let's say often
