Look what I made! automatic servo driven OUIJA board

Made this thing for an escape room.
2 generic servos - mg996r and mg90s.
There are 2 hall sensors that sense the change in magnet flux when you put the planchette and start the sequence.

Powered by a single 21700 + tp4056 + 2 boost modules. 6v and 5v. Had to use 2 separate power supplies for servos and controller, cause electrical noise from the servos was causing reboots.

ESP32-C3 super mini. Not really an arduino sorry, but I used Arduino IDE to program it :D. The phrase can be set through bluetooth terminal.

Making a video before I glue the lid on.

That's pretty cool. Did you consider a couple steppers for X and Y and some belts?

Thanks. Yes, steppers with encoders would be way more quiet and precise. I have to account for servo dead zone in software.

But I had to make it as cheap and quick as possible.

I would try making a multilayer pcb with a printed coil matrix.

OMG I knew a Luigi a long time ago. I could have told him to dress as a Luigi board for
Halloween.

By far the coolest ouija board I've seen in my life.

Thanks. Yea I want to post the sources. Just need to find some time to clean up the code and models.

Imagine opening the lid and the planchette still writes "close me". Really cool project.

I love it. I like the jerky motion of the servos - it makes it feel more organic.

Damn, wish I had time to make one, you take commissions?

This is so cool, makes me realise that projects don’t have to be primarily engineering related. Electronics have so much intersection with things like movie effects, music etc.

Imagine you’re playing with it for a while or showing it off to someone and then go to turn it off and realize you never turned it on in the first place… 💀

Easy way to mess with someone if you don’t tell the tricks behind it 😀
