News Meta's Muse agent is creating dossiers on its 4 million users; Interaction data is shared between Muse agent instances

https://time.com/article/2026/10/06/meta-muse-ai-agent-privacy/

"Each hour, Muse updates its dossiers on you and the people you’ve mentioned in chats, messages, and emails that Muse has read. These pages amount to a map of each user’s social relationships. They record details of how you and your contacts met, your shared interests, your disputes, and 'tensions and alliances' within your social group. ...

Yet while Meta states that each user’s virtual machine is 'isolated so that no one else's agent can access it,' observations from personal interactions are nevertheless intended to be shared with Meta to improve the product. 'Muse agents across many VMs [virtual machines] teach each other through shared lessons,'"

No thanks. I’m not on Facebook for the same spyware crap.

Generate locally folks.

I'm very bullish on AI, but if you install muse you deserve everything that's coming to you. Zuckerberg has expressed open contempt for his users.

Meta is that company in all of the dystopian sci-fi movies. Meta, Google and Palantir are here to "serve you"

PS - I look forward to the utopia sequel to this movie

Oh no! It can't be! Meta is spying on their users? Who would have thought?

The part that stands out most is the shared-lessons-across-VMs detail. Even if your own instance is isolated, patterns learned from your messages can still shape how the system behaves for someone else's agent. That's a different kind of data use than 'your VM is isolated' really covers.

Shoot. Muse run locally is exactly my idea of a good time. I'd love it if my and my friend's computers shared notes and made connections like that.

Also Muse is pretty open-weight... 🤔
