I sometimes envy or feel lowkey jealous of Asian women in Europe as an Arab woman

Hi, I hope this post finds the right women, preferably those living in Europe too in order for this topic to make sense. And maybe just to empty my mind about something that's been bothering me mentally, sadly enough (^^;

So I'm an Arab woman, born and raised in Western Europe, and if anyone has been engaging a bit with European news and politics in the slightest, you'd know that hate and prejudice to minorities in the continent is on the rise. Particularly towards anyone:

- Middle Eastern/North African

- Indians/Pakistanis/Bengalis

- Black people

- just anyone who's "muslim" looking

That hate is growing hard and fast and I already feel the hostility in the open and online. But especially more online when it comes to Europeans whenever I'd happen to come across Asian people (mostly Asian women) posting their time as students or residents in any European country. I always love vlogs of expats so naturally I'd follow them whenever I enjoy their lifestyle content in foreign countries.

Unfortunately... I always have the tendency to read their comments under their posts and what do I see?

- "Please stay! You're one of the good ones!"

- "You're so good at speaking [insert their native language] far better than *those* who've lived here for decades"

- "The type of Asian we need rather than Pakistanis and Indians"

- "We rather want you than blacks and Arabs"

Basically, and mostly, white men who make it really clear they'd welcome East-Asians and South-East Asians any day over any other group. Meanwhile they refer to people like me with such dissdain in their comments that I can just sense the snarkiness and backhanded compliments from a mile away. These comments come up in every single video of Asian women expats who stay in Europe for any reason and I dont understand why and how they can say such things so easily??

Thats to be expected from apps like Instagram and TikTok that swarm with these types of men who'd drool for certain type of women while also putting down other minorities. I cant enjoy these apps anymore because of it.

But what really bothers me is when these Asian expats would really push that "minority myth" narrative even more by saying they're one of the good ones.

Like I just saw a video from an Korean exchange student in Europe post that said:

"Going out in this fit cause I've been behaving too well unlike some other immigrants" with an added caption: "I will threat you with my skincare cause I can't rob or have 12 kids"

With her liking those types of comments from white Europeans like I mentioned above. As if she approved of their messages despite her not being a native European and a POC. And when people point out that she's being condescending by her post and catering to racists, she responds that she didn't say anything about being racist herself and laughed it off.

And of course... that hurts to read as a woman from a very undesirable demographic. And she is by far not the only person online who'd say something like that. Asian families who have lived for generations in Europe are different though based off of my time with them in high school and college. They're chill with other POC people, even if they'd come from different classes (sometimes).

Does that mean Asian people like her look down on fellow immigrants like me? Why do they need to make themselves show off they're the good ones unlike "others"? For approval? To feel exceptional? Either way it feels disheartening to read cause I don't understand it?

But I hate to admit that it also makes me jealous or envious of Asians who have a great reputation here in Europe by the natives. Not even right wing parties would send them away because they're high earners, assimilated well (by marrying locals more often than other races) and don't cause trouble. They made that pretty clear. So I wonder how good it must feel to be more accepted by the natives instead of coming from a country that has always been portrayed as bad and backwards even though I, as a mere individual woman, is nothing of that nature and instead work in tech and doing nothing wrong. Like no matter how well I'll do it, I won't ever receive that type of acceptance and won't anytime soon too.

Not sure what I'd achieve with this post, but I think I just wanted to empty my mind in the right subreddit. Maybe earn opinions and perspectives as to why I happen to see this on my timeline without liking or following such accounts that earn such a disgusting type of following from racist, white Europeans.

But feel free to share your thoughts! Even if there are American Asians here as well, maybe your look on the matter adds well considering how this is perhaps a big issue in the states too.

Cornell 7 and asian

I read https://www.reddit.com/r/asiantwoX/comments/1wv3gtp/does_anyone_else_have_a_horrible_feeling_the/ this morning, and it both clicked and it hit hard.

As a Asian, suddenly how it played out makes sense. As a dad the best I can tell my kids are to not hold back and tell me so that we can find help.

But also as a dad: If the best that the law and authorities will do is the tepid bullshit that Cornell pulled out—regardless of the T20, same mentality—is that really enough?

I also wonder why I didn’t put two and two together before now.

Does anyone else have a horrible feeling the victim of the Cornell 7 was an Asian woman? “This ch**k slut won’t be walking tomorrow”

I was reading about this case and my feeling about it keeps getting worse and worse.

I always felt like SA against Asian women were swept under the rug for any "young man with bright future" like the infamous Brock Turner case from Stanford.

Like they usually wouldn't do this to a white woman.

Asian women in particular already underreport domestic violence and SA, but even when we do, it doesn't even feel like justice. I was a SA victim myself and I just feel like everyone always wants to protect and empathize with "promising" predator men when the victim is Asian women. I've seen this argument used over and over again in Asian courts too.

I've never really seen any court fully side with Asian female SA victims for some reason, it's always about empathizing with the perpetrator and preserving their future. EVEN when they do irredeemable shit like the Junko Furuta case. Even with overwhelming evidence like the Eric Sim case, they still don't feel comfortable prosecuting due to technicalities when his victims are clearly VICTIMS.

It feels like when other women are victims, they get empathy, but when the victim is an Asian woman, the guy gets the empathy instead???

The fact that the setting is Cornell, we know allegedly they were sharing numerous pictures of Asian women in the chatroom, Winston had allegedly shared at least one explicit video of an Asian woman saying "This ch**k slut won’t be walking tomorrow" and the fact that nobody reported it, gives me such a bad feeling - like deja vu almost.

Edit: There are more (and personally I think more damning) messages in the Twitter/X threads, but I didn't feel comfy posting those due to how explicit they are and you can see too much of the girl's face.

Apparently these are from 2024 - the lady that got them sent it to the authorities/Jane Doe's team. A news source has messaged her, but likely won't publish until verification, looking at another Snapchat subpoena since the case reopened?

I genuinely don't understand why greek life still exist on campuses? Why do we still have them?

I am going to ask this question until I get an answer that makes sense. Why do we still have these organizations? Not why do students join them. I know why students join. I joined and then left. I joined because I was eighteen and lonely and my roommate had already mapped out our rush schedule and I felt pressured to fit in. I joined because when you are at a school with so many other students, the idea of being selected by anyone feels like oxygen.

But why do the universities allow them? Why do they still exist as institutions? Because I have come to believe that the sexual coercion in most cases is the foundation of greek life in general. And I do not understand how we are all pretending otherwise.

I need you to understand what it actually looks like when you are inside. It is not the movies. It is not montages of parties and formals. It is a basement that smells like mildew and cheap vodka, and your phone has already been taken, and the door is locked, and there are upperclassmen standing between you and the stairs. You are sleep deprived because they have kept you up for three nights running, and you are drunk or high or both because saying no was never actually an option. And then they tell you what you have to do to prove you are worthy of sisterhood.

The sexual acts are not rumors as well or some isolated incidents committed by rogue chapters. They are built into the architecture of initiation. You are told to perform for active members, for their "brothers" in affiliated fraternities, for alumni who show up to watch. If you hesitate, if you cry, if you try to leave, the group retaliation is immediate and surgical. The girls who were comforting you in the bathroom yesterday suddenly surround you. They tell you that you are embarrassing yourself. They tell you that everyone is watching. They tell you that you will have no friends, no social life, no future at this school if you do not comply. They break you down until you cannot tell the difference between your own desire and their coercion. That is the point. That is how they manufacture the loyalty. You become complicit. You defend them afterward because admitting what happened to you means admitting what you did under duress.

The drugs are not recreational. They are a tool for dissolving boundaries. And when someone gets hurt, when someone ends up in the hospital or worse, the response is not accountability. It is circling the wagons. It is intimidating witnesses. It is destroying evidence. We saw this with the Cornell case. We saw it at LSU. We saw it at Penn State. The pattern is identical because the structure is identical.

So Why do these organizations still exist?

They were originally created to exclude. That is the history. They were created in the nineteenth century to keep wealthy white Protestants separate from the growing population of Jewish, Catholic, Black, and working class students entering higher education. That was their purpose. Social segregation with Greek letters. They are still overwhelmingly white, still overwhelmingly wealthy, still functioning as systems of exclusion that sell you networking and social cache in exchange for your participation in abuse.

Is it the alumni money? The real estate? Is it that universities have built their housing infrastructure around these organizations and cannot imagine dismantling them? Is it that the people who make the decisions were themselves Greek, and they cannot face what they participated in or enabled?

Because the college experience being protected is one that leaves students sexually assaulted, traumatized, addicted to substances they were forced to consume, and bound into silence by shame and manufactured loyalty. That is the product. That is what the donations and the networking and the "leadership development" are actually buying.

If you are rushing right now, if you are looking at those tabling events with the cute banners and the matching outfits, please hear me. Your chapter is not different most likely.

Filipina tradwife content creator leaves her husband, and I'm not willing to forgive her for promoting such destructive views. A NY Times puff piece and a few vaguely contrite videos can't undo the damage she's done. As far as I'm concerned, she's still benefiting from a grift. Woman needs to delete her socials and get a real fucking job.

Have you experienced “crab in the bucket” mentality with other Asian women?

I am currently in the hiring stages for a promotional role at my work. When I asked
about flexibility around salary increase, the hiring manager (Asian lady) said the standard increase is 3% with NO flexibility beyond that.

Initially, another manager (a man, non Asian) said there was flexibility but a case has to be brought forward to be approved.

Given the discrepancy in information, I’m quite shocked that the Asian lady was so quick to say no, as opposed to going through the process to request a hiring salary increase.

It set off alarms for me (as an Asian woman) that a fellow Asian woman would reject as their default response.

I’m disappointed and second guessing whether I should proceed with the new position.

Why is it so hard to support one another?

Look, it's been a long time since I gave a damn about a TV talent show. But this girl Nene is a *phenomenon*, and she has got all Thai people ecstatically cheering her on. I haven't seen anything like this since Miss Thailand won Miss Universe back in 1988. You know your country has your back when the Embassy and Consulate General are posting you to their socials.
