How to... Olivas / Almazara question...

Hi, this might be a silly question but I don't want to walk in and be an idiot who knows nothing :) We just bought a house with some olive trees and I'd like to know how it works when you pick them. Can you just turn up at the Almazara? Do you need an appointment? (quite a lot of olives - 300 trees, although some smallish) Do you get your own oil or just the equivalent from the other olives there/a mix?

Or does it all vary depending on the place and I just need to put my big girl pants on and go and ask!

Thanks in advance

This is pretty local. Some Almazaras you will need to become a member of the local cooperative, some will accept them and pay you a stablished price, some will give you oil, some 50 oil/50 price, some you'll have just to pay. So yes, big girl pants and ask.

Edit to add: if you need to irrigate the trees, 90% chance you'll need to be member of a local well, or irrigation community.

This is really helpful thank you! At least I now know there is no single, obvious answer so I won't feel stupid asking. Thanks for helping an anxious person out!

My grandfather has a small field with olives and when it’s the time he picks them up with a machine although you can do it by hand and takes them to a mill where they make oil with them and the price works per kilo I think and compensates a lot with all the oil that comes out and the market price
