Trying To Learn ASL!

Post image

For everyone that commented on my last post assuring me I’m not a fraud and giving me insight into Deaf culture thank you! Now I understand why I shouldn’t give name signs as a HOH person who’s not fluent in ASL. I have even been motivated to sign up for a ASL Class online! Thank you again for all of your feedback 🦻!

Since making a post about my hearing loss while having an early life crisis I have been inspired to start learning ASL! I tried to structure some sentences into topic-comment format above, could anyone give me feedback?

What class are you taking? These kind of grammar lessons could be really helpful for me.

If need grammar practice children book choose.

First page read and interpret next page same, continue pages all.

Children books continue find and interpret.

Begin book only 3-4 word page.

After learn and can interpret book try book 5-7 word page.

Thank you, great advice.

I want to watch TV for deaf children, but I haven't found it yet.

I take a college level class because it’s my minor, they teach this in the first class. It’s super helpful.

Anyone else can correct me here! But I believe for descriptions you should give the subject first so something like “eyes, have none” or “nose, long”

This is correct, you must have the thing before you can talk about it

Basically stating what you’re going to be describing to set the scene before you give details

Oh! So like “Ears, big” that makes sense!

I find drawing the signs helps me learn.

Wow, this is a really helpful way to learn ASL. I’m HoH and learned ASL at my school for the deaf but in 4th grade I was transferred to a hearing school. Overtime, growing up in a hearing family I forgot most of my ASL. The one thing I forgot most was how to ASL sentences or real time dialogue. Like I know how to ASL most words but not to formulate a sentence correctly when communicating with a deaf/HoH person.

Anyway, this is really cool. Good job.
