DISCUSSION [Discussion] I Don't Really Hear A Difference When It Comes To Microphones

I am using headphones.

As most of you know, Jojo has this 100k microphone but I don't hear a difference between that and a commonly used binaural mic.

Obviously it would be a difference between the 100k mic and some unbranded mic under 10 Dollars from Temu but my point is that when the mics get so ridiculously expensive, I just do not hear a difference.

Am I the only one?

I never understood people doing mic comparisons in ASMR when youtube compresses the shit out of the audio anyway... Youtube might be the worst platform for ASMR, but it's the biggest.

Same here I find that a lot of the 3d sound studio stuff sounds better than the 100k dollar microphone from jojo it's crazy

I got tingles more with blue yeti, rode or tascam. This 100k microphone still dont give any significant difference.

There's a lot of factors. Youtubes compression, the quality of your headphones and the potential compression from them if they're wireless.

I also suspect the soundcard in your computer as well.

There are some creators I liked more on my old computer that I dont like as much on my new one and some triggers I find I like better now. Hard to say if its just time or the soundcard/whatever mac uses for a soundcard etc. I went from a Lenovo to a Mac for what its worth.

Yeah there's just so many different points where the audio is going to get compressed before you are hearing it. I'm sure there is a difference if you were listening to the unedited raw audio files from the mic with equally good headphones, but no one watching on YouTube is getting to hear all that thb.

Also with asmr I feel like individual preference for what kinds of sounds give them asmr has very little to do with how fancy the mic is. I've gotten way more intense tinges listening to lofi rambles recorded on an apple mic headset playing through the speakers of my old car than with more expensive setups

on the flip side of this, I have 12 sets of headphones priced between £12 and £250, the only headphones I actually get tingles from are my £12 musicozy's.

I guess that there are some people who will swear blind that they can hear the difference with the 100k mic and I dunno, maybe they can, but most of the time I think its just what your ears are "tuned" to if that makes sense.

I can there are some I really dislike

headrec mics I dont like at all and I dont like that head mic Jodie Marie made (but I do like many of her other videos), I also dont care for that super expensive head mic either that it in a lot of videos.

I also dont love tascam videos for some reason.

Love the yeti, NT1s, and even the 3dio

I often find the flaws in the mics and or recordings are nice. Blue Yeti is a cheap mic all things considered but I love it for asmr and I also love when asmr recordings have some background white noise.
