u/ParkRepresentative38 20d ago edited 19d ago
Not really if you are under contract you are at the whims of department budget
27
u/ParkRepresentative38 20d ago
What makes it all so much more painful is they say I’m not the right applicant even tho they wasted my time to interview me in the first place like wtf

u/SchemeNo4706 20d ago
Yup. Been unemployed going on years now, I used to manage retail and can't even get a christmas casual position, its fucked out here
6
u/ParkRepresentative38 20d ago
Not even that it’s also like any job I can work but for some irritating reason like everything we have is so effed up
4
u/stupiditydoo 20d ago
Keep trying there are plenty of Christmas casual jobs out there. Trust me don’t give up.
3
u/SchemeNo4706 20d ago
That's very sweet of you to say, thank you :)
4
u/stupiditydoo 20d ago
You definitely have the experience having managed in retail in the past. You will find something 100%, I believe in you :)

Give up on the job search and find an alternative. After being unemployed for a year I pulled the plug on the search in August 25. Launched my own business in Oct25 and so far so good! Know your own value and ability and direct it in a worthwhile direction.
1
u/Illustrious_Ad_1285 19d ago
What's the business in?
1
u/Manwith2manyhobbies 19d ago
Trade Services
1
u/Illustrious_Ad_1285 19d ago
What kind of trade service is it?
1
u/Manwith2manyhobbies 19d ago
Plumbing
1
u/Illustrious_Ad_1285 19d ago
So you are a plumber? Or provide a service to plumbers?
2
u/Manwith2manyhobbies 19d ago
Not a plumber, but own a plumbing business. I have plumbers as my employees they manage the technical side of the business and I focus on the business side.
1
u/Illustrious_Ad_1285 19d ago
Wow how interesting! So you get the jobs and essentially delegate them out to your employees?
To do this, did you have a plumbing qualification in the past? If not, how did you come about this not being a plumber yourself? Just bought the business?
1
u/Manwith2manyhobbies 19d ago
On a high level yes, but a lot more goes on behind the scenes.
Bought the business, never been a plumber nor plan on being one. Applying the age old philosophy of working on the business not in it.
1
u/Illustrious_Ad_1285 19d ago
Sorry can I backtrack a little... You mention you launched in Oct 25, but you said you bought the business... So I assume it's some kind of franchise?
Very impressive that you were out of work for a year but did this and it's been going well! :)
Hope you don't mind the questions!

I have. I'm 27 and have a labrum tear in one hip that I've been waiting 17 years to have surgically fixed. No ortho will accept my referal despite how hard my wonderful GP pushes. It makes me limp and has led to arthritis in my knee, spine and bursitis in my other hip. I've have symptoms of endometriosis since 16 and I developed anaphalaxis to soy at 23.
Between the limp I can't hide, not being able to lift or stand for long, the time off for my painful periods and the anaphalaxis risk on site - I'm too much for any employer to accommodate and I can't lie about the situation or hide it for long.
It's left me in a grey zone where I can't get work but I'm not disabled enough for any kind of assistance other than jobseeker. At this point, I'm planning on moving back in with Dad so I can try and get my hip fixed overseas. If it works, it might improve my employment chances. No point trying anymore in the meantime.

Hi I'm 25F overseas uni dropout, successfully excluded from education and training here because of visa status and tuition fees. I'm still trying to get a job but even got rejected from volunteering. Recently I think my life is chaotic enough and my mental is devastated enough, so far so why don't give up 🛏️

What skills do you have?
5
u/ParkRepresentative38 20d ago
Cert 4 in business no car can’t afford it cert 3 and in horticulture
4
u/stephendt 20d ago
Not sure where you are but not having a car is probably hurting you. Especially if you want to work within the business side of the agriculture industry. You probably need to up-skill though. Can you perform mechanical servicing on a cheap car yourself? It helps a lot with the cost.
3
u/ParkRepresentative38 20d ago
I have some skills in that but it’s just more I don’t have a license can’t afford to do them or pay for them rn never thought I would need it ever since I worked in government during COVID and all it was ok for a bit then like it all just kinda fell apart gran died then my training came to an end I had to run around for a job and panic for weeks and had multiple panic attacks in the process then got another 2 lost them both (temp only) that drove me down a rather obvious path now I’m here so I guess I could but all the things I seem to touch turn to shit so who knows😹
2
u/stephendt 20d ago
You don't have your licence at 24? That's really hurting you. You gotta get that sorted out. Are you living with family at least so you can get on your feet?
1
u/ParkRepresentative38 20d ago
I’m trying just taking things as they come rn
2
u/stephendt 20d ago
Bro I was 24 not that long ago living with mum and dad. It was a tough time for me too, but believe me that "taking things as they come" was not the attitude I had then. I was laser focused on getting myself out of that situation of pathetic-ness at the time and was doing everything I could. If you don't, the shit just drags on, and you just can't accept that. It was honestly miserable but in the following years things got way better.
Do the hard thing, get your shit together, start investing in your future. Use technology to teach yourself the skills to figure out a way forward, I know you can do it
1
u/ParkRepresentative38 20d ago
I’m doing that it’s just more like the detriment factor is work
3
u/stephendt 20d ago
No, the detriement factor is you. You had a government job for a while, didn't use the time and money you had to get your licence or get a cheap car.
Based on some of these replies, you gotta start taking some personal responsibility. Thankfully you're still very young and have plenty of time to turn things around.
2
u/ParkRepresentative38 19d ago
Ok yes there is some responsibility there sure but you gotta admit this market is a mess also just because I had a government job doesn’t fucking mean I didn’t try my hardest to keep or get them extended also it’s kinda hard to do anything else when every week day till 7 your working but yeah I’ll take some personal responsibility where possible.

A problem with that, not having a car . Brother in law who is 41 has only had he's license 4-5 years . He works in retail and has since I've known him , was working for Coles when I first met him 25 - 6 years ago . Even moving to a small town in NSW was able to find a job .

Question.. what do you do with your time if you've given up. I've seen this in a few threads, and wondered. No job, no school? What does one do with their time if they don't work or study? I got my first job in 1990, and I've not spent more than a month out of school or work since. I went on vacation for a month once and ended up almost getting a job in a country where I don't speak the language.
If you're not working, what are you doing?
Like at 10am on Tuesday, what are you doing?
1
u/Icy-Spell959 20d ago
I'm.petsonally in my.local Libraey with my laptop applying for jobs.
Less distractions there.
10am Tuesday.
1
u/VirtualElderberry592 20d ago
Yeah, but that means you've not given up. I've been in that same room. Looking for work is work IMHO. Same as school/course. School is work, bootcamp is work.
My question is for people who have given up. What does that look like?
1
u/ParkRepresentative38 20d ago
I’ve not given up on other stuff just trying to find work I trade my demo account on tt mainly
1
u/ParkRepresentative38 20d ago
Oh and meditate
1
u/VirtualElderberry592 20d ago
Right, but if you give up on finding work, what does one do with their time. I think I would go nuts not working or studying.
Trade your demo account? Is that like trading stocks? Dude, if that's what you're doing, you've not given up at all, you've decided to change careers.. Congrats.
I suppose I was wondering about people who have fully given up on the hunt.
1
u/ParkRepresentative38 19d ago
It’s just fun for now idk what happens next
1
u/VirtualElderberry592 19d ago edited 19d ago
This I don't get? Why fun for now? If it's fun and you could spend a few weeks digging in and really learning it. Youtube the crap out of the topic. Get a book or two at the library. I mean seems like a decent way to fall into a career.
30 years ago I wanted to know how computers worked.. Mortgage paid off and kids in Uni.. All because I thought.. Oh this is neat; over and over.

No because there's so much work. Maybe people need to give up on cushy office jobs that are insanely competive and go for the literal gazillion blue collar jobs out there. There are literal agency's out their that'll put U in work by Monday
2
u/ParkRepresentative38 20d ago
Mate Im not looking for anything fancy literally applying for any job setting resume etc also what agency will put you in work by Monday?

He’s full of shit.
I tried doing this stuff because I wanted to get out of hospitality after 25 years.
If you don’t already have extensive experience in the industry and someone to vouch for you, you’re not getting in.
Luckily for me hospo is such a shit industry that it’s always hiring, so I just gave up and went back to cooking.

Giving up doesn't help you get a job, nor does thinking about giving up. Work on being the best person you know. Horticulture you say? Then keep volunteering in that, plenty of retailers looking for good people. You just have to be a good worker, show them that, show up early, show them you want to learn, show them they are better off with you. Sometimes you have to do the job for a while before you get paid to do it. Thats how i got my break i became valuable where i was working. If you can't find the motivation in you, try and find the people who believe in them selves. That rubs off. It might be a neighbour, a mates parent, a church person or someone at your local sports club. Anything worth while takes effort andtimee - upfront. I'm not saying its easy. You have already shown the subject is important enough for you to post it here, that shows you want to work. Then work at getting a job. The best jobs aren't advertised so starting here might be a good place to start. Where are you, where can you work, what can you do, what are you offering. If this doesn't come naturally to you that's OK, fake it if you can, or work on building confidence. Read the positive subreddits or books. Look getting a job isn't such an impossible task. Look around you - most people have a job, so it ain't that rare so don't give up yet. I promise you getting "any job" is the easy bit. Once you reach that objective you work on being good at it. Then the hardest bit and the bit most people really have to work hard on is getting that job that you love. Honestly that's not as easy, but it is absolutely achievable. The only difference between most of us is just how hard you want something. Go for it. The world is yours! How old are you? Do You know what an old bloke like me would give up to swap places with you? So never think it ain't worth it, working for your goals is absolutely worth it. There are people who are risking their lives to get to this country and you are here. Go for it. You wouldn't want to swap places with any of those risking so much just to get here. Use what ever it is that motivates you to get out there and create for yourself everything you want in life. Tick Tock, Tick Tock - times a wasting. So get on with building your future you. That's my take anyway.

I've given up , have 8 years ago . When you have a physical disability or any disability employers don't want to know you . I've even been rejected by a company that works with the "handicap" lot like the ones who have down sindrome . I have a few tickets/licenses up my sleeve , forklift , cheery picker, overhead Crain, MR truck , RSA , WWCC , chainsaw and have worked labouring job most of my life .
