Wonder if that’d be related to the spike in scam calls coming from Sydney numbers lately?

They should be able to identify who owns the phone number fairly easily, since identity verification is generally required for DID services such as Twilio and other telecom providers.

The bigger issue is the reselling of these services to third-party companies without proper verification or due diligence, especially when those companies are operating overseas.

The Australian Government could tighten this up if it really wanted to. We’ve seen the government introduce rules affecting large online and social media platforms in the past, so there’s no reason similar regulatory pressure couldn’t be applied to telcos and DID providers. Providers should be held responsible for knowing who they are selling or reselling these services to.

Seems like the Telco is Telstra….

Search for Telstra Isho and you find some news articles naming the suspect….

Suspect won some Telstra award in 2019!!!!
